Excellent! One thing I rarely hear or discussed is working scale, the size of the drawing on paper. So often, (and I remember this for myself) looking at renderings in books or online, I didn’t know how large the drawings were in the real world. Seeing these demonstrations exhibit how the the instructor works, and the size of the drawing on paper. This too, helps In making relaxing marks. Kudos!
@@productdesignermaker I think you do an amazing job with these tutorials. Relaxing and breathing is essential and freeing the hand from resting on the paper/desk is great for those construction lines. Cheers!
Thank you so much for this! I'm a product design student and I've been looking for resources to improve my sketching! This helps so much! Thank you!!! 😭♥️
This has been amazingly helpful. I want to study industrial design and have spent a lot of time practicing the necessary skills. This video has given me a better idea on how i should tackle my practice sessions. Thank you so much!
Another fascinating video. Your ideation video has already made its way into my Year 9 DT classes for September - such a great way to develop design starting points. On a side note, I’m now working on my own design projects & I’ve also bought myself some (admittedly cheap!) artist markers. Invoice for these will be in the post!! Keep them coming!
would love if you made a video on a recommended "curriculum" of skills to learn for design sketching so that by the end someone can sketch any design they envision!
For drawings like 6:00 I usually have to do 2 point perspective techniques, otherwise the boxes don't line up to the same perspective. Is this fine? Do you ever do this? Really awesome video! I have learned almost all of my product design sketching from your channel :) I think I asked you about design engineering vs engineering in the past, today I got my A level results and have met my offer to go to Cambridge to study engineering :)
I’m struggling for the words to express how great this is to hear. Well done! That’s so awesome! Engineering at Cambridge!!! Super news, and such an achievement! Well done!
@@productdesignermaker I've been practicing these exercises for a few days. 2:34 When constructing cirlcles in squares like this, I just can't seem to get the four arcs consistent and clean. When I draw, arcs in each quadrant they together doesn't form a proper circle rather a very distorted round shape, however when I draw full circle in the square in a continuous motion I get decent looking circles. I was trying to get that to and fro hand motion while drawing the arcs. Can't seem to get it right. Can you give some tips on this??
I'd be really interested to see how you break down more complex shapes like a computer mouse or a screwdriver handle. I feel that's where a lot of people get stuck.
Always struggle with relating 2 differently orientated components, with different VPs, on the one object. Such as the 'butter churn' problem presented in Perspective made easy p182 - Ernest Norling. Basically, he challenges you to draw a cube with a thin cylinder passing through it DIAGONALLY using construction geometry. It's a mind bender to try figure out the construction and make it relate to the diagonal centre of the cube. Any ideas/ experience with such difficult drawing exercises?
That’s a really interesting question. Thank you for getting in touch. I guess I’m going to have to get myself a copy of this book now! I’ll have a look and a think. An interesting challenge.
@@productdesignermaker Hey man, thanks for replying! It bothered me so much, I'm thinking of creating a 3d cad model, take screenshots and try find the VPs etc myself working back from the screenshot, however, that will be a 3point perspective model, so kind of adds to complication ha. I don't mind sending you a couple pictures from the book where the drawing problem is described if you'd like? (Edit) Or I could upload a video here to show you the pages if you'd prefer that rather than needing your details?
@@snoopycharlie8718 just been looking on Amazon and there are at least three different books with the same title by the same author! 🤣 Not sure which to go for. A couple of photos would be interesting…. pdm.post@outlook.com thank you.
@@productdesignermaker Ha yes, that's true!! I just sent you an email man :) Thanks again, hope it's of interest to you and hope you can solve the construction ! :)
Sorry to hear this, but it should be achievable. Sounds like you’re putting pressure on yourself to produce your very best work when you sit down to sketch. Try to think of your sketching as means of communication with your client…. It’s NOT time to strive for excellence - you’re not producing artwork. If you take all steps to take away the pressure, you’ll start to find yourself liberated and your work will begin to look more assured and confident. Hope this helps.
My advice would be to take it very slowly, listen very carefully to what is being said and pause the video at the bit you find difficult, so you can go back and watch it a few times. Best of luck.
