Everything in life is about happiness, personally i lived in 200 meter luxury home in Tehran capital of iran but soon as lived in Philippines , even in very small unit like that i found happiness which i never ever exchange with million of dollars. I learned home is not the place which we born," home it's the place we feel real happiness next to kind and positive people " .
Like you said, not sure those rooms are for me, not for a long time rental, anyway, but it's amazing what you can get for that price. I stayed in a room in Pattaya that wasn't much different to the last place for a few days and I was paying £18 a night. I thought that was a bargain, but that price for a month is just insane!! Great vlog.
These are great places for someone on a really tight budget. They're not for me, I need something just a little then this. Can't grumble with $80 a month though. Cheers mate.
I stayed in something similar...I think it was called Sherri Apartments...Near Mia Mall... 90$ US and month.. $120 with utilities... big studio..great view...large window, plenty of natural light...fridge, wardrobe... desk... nice size western bathroom... clean... free wifi... great mix of Thai locals and Ferang...security entry and great landlord... Loved it... Loved the location... Great cheap food area mixed with modern hipster restaurants...month to month... No contract or security deposit...Not sure why so many manily older westerners are obessed with having all the bells and whistles...or are convinced the place has to be over 500$ for it to be safe and clean... or travel vloggers, aka passport bros want to look like their living the high life... For me location is the most important...and if its clean and I feel secure... cause living aboard is more about gaining the experiences... Not living in a penthouse
Wow thank you. I wanna stay in cnx a couple of months and all the facebook groups offer something 10.000 Baht or more. I actually don’t need western standard comfort. I just want a bed to sleep in and feeling the comfort of being alone. Otherwise i seek improving my language skills and being outside most of the time. So paying over 300 USD a month just on rent seems a lot. I’d rather invest it into food and activities or a language course
Not half bad for the price Wayne and you could likely buy your own comfy bed if you planned to stay there long term which would be an excellent investment. Assuming there was no hot water for the shower though but with the climate there its hardly an issue. Another excellent video. Cheers mate 🤩
That's right mate, get a new bed and some bits and bobs for the room, it would look loads better. It's small and cramped but i've seen alot worse. Cheers Steven mate.
Those aren't that bad at all! Nice find! It helps to understand the range of rental prices and options around town. That 2,800THB place could easily be fixed up, new bed, a chair, microwave, new paint, etc. Sweet! Thank you for this Wayne!!
Wayne I lived like a Thai in Pattaya 32 years ago for 5 years and my room was good, I only had a fan but my room was much bigger and never got too hot. I also bought a gas bottle and cooked on the balcony and had nice views both sides. Before bed I would throw my shorts and singlet etc in a bowl with soap and fill with hot water from a tank on the roof, then pin em up next morning before going out with my mates. I had my own tv that I paid cable for and of all the places and various quality hotels I have ever stayed in since that cheap room holds the fondest memories of mine. Cheers mate 😂😂😂
$80 in a great deal. Yeah it needs a bit of work but you could make it really nice. We painted a friend's $50 in Siem Reap and it made a huge difference. Always be For Riel!
You could make it a bit more pleasing for sure. Parking wasn't great and security was nothing except the cat. Maybe I'll get around to doing Smith one day mate.
That first room even had a TV, when I first spent a long time in Chiang Mai a Thai friend helped me get a cheap room - I was paying 3,000 baht a month (no bills mind you) and I didn't even have a TV or wifi!
Thanks for sharing! The first aircon room was okay for the price, the last one was a nice place for 2800 Bath. And if you only have 1 room and stay outside most of the time, the 1 Bath+ overprice on the electric would not hurt that much. For one like me when I retire, it would be a great place to get the feet on the ground before I got something more permanent. And I would be able to save a large part of my pension. 😊
@@WalkAboutWayne What a lot of retirees and other expats don't realize, is that by renting a place like this the first 3-6 or even 12 months(depending on budget) you could save enough money to buy a new 125-160cc scooter or a 2-3 years old 300-650 cc motorbike. Instead they go renting a luxurious condo or villa for 20-30 000 Bath or more to show off. I know I will go the cheapo route in the beginning when I retire in Thailand.

@@Jefe_Perro Yeah it's crazy what you can get. Like you mentioned, just having the bathroom, fridge and free wifi. I agree though, you would need to be out most of the day and just sleep here. Good option for young backpacker maybe.
Thankfully I’ll be brining a fair bit more over but this is proof you could live in Thailand (in Chiang Mai, no less) for $500-$600 per month if you wanted to, even if you budgeted $10/day for food. You’d still have $1-200 left for whatever else per month.
That landlady is SUPER NICE, again! I think you got the monthly pricing. If you were to stay for six months or a year, the price should be about Bt.1300 for the one without AC. Why? Bt.4000 can get you a very nice room, near CMU, with AC. And, on the plus side, living with students is so much better. Thai students are very respectful and thoughtful of others, at least the girls are.
There was loads of shoes outside one room. Did they have many people staying in that room?!?! Looking forward to you coming to Phnom Penh!!!! Cheers brother.
Hey Paul, not sure if I seen your last comment. Did it have a link in or any bad words? Anything like that don't get through mate. I wouldn't remove nothing unless it's below the belt . Cheers mate.
No Wayne . I never post links , bad words , flame , troll or touch on anything sensitive .I was basically thanking you for including this price range as there is much stereotyping as to why those in this budget range for whatever reason would leave home in the 1st place . Let's see if this can get past the algorithm lol

Cheers man! I have a few vlogs on my channel of places around $170. Chiang Mai rental groups on Facebook is a great place to find rooms. Or marketplace.
its a vibe honestly and I think that i would actually enjoy living there. The fact that you would be living among the Thai people like they do. not far from shops and restaurants. The only thing that i would want is a desk... Im curious what 150-200 would get you
Yes, it's not the worst place. A few bits of furniture and it would look a lot better. 150 - 200 is a bit step up with the rooms here. You can get something nicer for that.
Nice. I can maybe do it those 3 months while I learn Chiang Mai and find something better, bigger 4 or 5 times and affordable. I'll be in Chiang Mai for Songkran. In Pattaya/Jomtien now.
Excellent recon Wayne, thanks! Didn't know you could get anything in Chiang Mai for $80 a month, but the last room what is more than I would've expected. Reminds me a bit of a place I used to stay in Hong Kong for about $100/week. Even though it was pretty grim, it was clean, quiet and secure, and in a good area of central Kowloon, and I actually preferred it to the some of the business hotels that were $60/night. I've heard that there are some ok places for $160/month in Chaing Mai and better bang for the buck in Chaing Rai. I'd be interested in what the $160 range is like
@@jackoneil3933 Think i got a few around $160 mate. I'm sure the brand new Almaan was $160 or $170. and next door in the Arsh. I have heard that prices have changed now, so not sure if they still are the same.
Ah ah you make my day mate ’ its not the best balcony in the world 😂😂😂 third one look fine 2 previous one more like a cell..... 😂 I agreed with you ,could be nice to have such a room per instance to search for a better one if you just arrived
🤣 Yeah first 2 would be a struggle. I was surprised by the third one, could be doable for a short stint. Maybe a young backpacker who party's all night.
That's so cheap .would be a good base to keep your things.i couldn't live in the 1st room.the last room do it up a bit would be ok thanks for sharing. Have a nice weekend wayne
New viewer here! Thanks for the tours. When you're renting for this little is it possible to make improvements at my own expense? Paint, a new mattress, etc.? Thanks Wayne!
Hi Jack, thanks for watching. I would say yes, it would be ok, but you would need to ask first. Most cheap places like this would be happy with the improvements i think. Especially if your on a long contract. Thanks.
Hi Wayne like to see some rentals that locals would rent I prefer the older buildings with a decent balcony high ceiling one or two rooms alot of people would rent them last ng term use as a base I prefer to live were Thais live personally and eat were they eat not all the time still need a full English breakfast and a decent steak or lamb chop cheers from new Zealand 🙏☮️ e❤
Hi Joel, this is the sort of place a Thai would rent mate. This is a real basic one though. I'll be doing more rental reviews and i also have quite a few on the channel. You making me feel hungry with the English breakfast!! I've not had one of them in 4 years. Thanks Joel.
My wife and I are elderly people. We will be moving out of the US to Thailand within two years. Back in the 1970s I never would have even entertained the thought of leaving the US because it was a great country back then. Now the US is a hell hole.
Look at Facebook groups for the cities that your going. Chiang Mai has some cheap room groups. Nothing beats heading out on foot once you arrive though.
I stayed in a room like this in 2019. For 3 weeks. Fan room. Daily rate was about 300 THB. The main difference is it is near Thapae. So the surrounding is nicer. Otherwise, it is about the same. That kind of window has no noise insulation. If the neighbors decide to make love, you can hear very clearly...... I could see at least a Farang who stayed there for months.
Very posh indeed but hardly the Chiang Mai Hilton at 2,000baht a month. Not exactly what i'm looking for but if they throw in the Brigette Nielson blow up doll that you took back to the museum i could be tempted. You "did" take her back i trust????
@@WalkAboutWayne If all else fails then at least it's a roof over your head mate and that's all that matters. Besides some people are on a very tight budget and something like that would suit 👍
Sir?..can i bring my family here to stay for at least 1 month only..? They only visit to see me ..do they allow us to live for a while..they will return when time is over..can we bring?
Location should be in the description. You can look them up. It's not the sort of places to make bookings though. Just turn up and see what rooms they have. Thanks.
@@WalkAboutWayne Saw a similar place in Pattaya some years ago where 3-5 bar girls were sharing. 3-4k IIRC. One mattress on the floor etc. You're correct that you can clean it up but my biggest concern after that would be noise.
Really great to see some very simple, very cheap, live-able rooms. A couple of questions, if I may: 1. Why have you chosen to live in CM instead of somewhere on the coast? 2. Have you noticed an influx of Russians escaping mobilization? I'm concerned they could be pushing up prices in Thailand. - Thanks.
Chiang Mai is just special, i prefer the chilled northern Thailand living. It's cheap and has everything you would need. It's hard to describe. Chiang Mai has magic in the air ( and pollution🤣). I've not noticed any influx of Russians. Thanks
It’s good value , as mentioned , if you are budgeting but preparing your expat retirement , you could save a packet for a 3 month + stay Luv your work WW 👌😃👍👋🙏
I first went to chaing mai in 1989 and stayed at a place called Ben's guest house. I was laying in bed a sleep and got woken up by loads of helicopters going over head. And the room had a celing fan that sounded like a helicopter. I was half asleep, and thought I was in a war zone. It was just the army doing exorcise manuovers. Lol. Great place back then , it only had 5 fallang bar's. I bet its changed so much since then
That second room was kind of dark and depressing. I don't think I could do it for long. The third one was pretty acceptable but I'd have issue with the awkward shower placing in all. I think we must be opposites in mattress preferences. I prefer mine to be as firm as possible. I'd sleep on a lightly padded board if I could...555!
I agree Earl, the second one was my least favorite. I don't think that one would be a very happy place. I was surprised by the third one. It wasn't bad at all for 2,800 and free wifi and fridge. Maybe a hard mattress would do me good mate.
All well and good - but for those who would need such low rents they likely can't deal with the Govt. immigration dysfunction and idiotic inconsistent policy ? The extra expense all that requires is likely a deal braker for many. -- Cambodia is a lot more welcoming and inexpensive !
True, it is a hassle to stay here with all the immigration costs and visits. I still live here really cheap though. I will have to try Cambodia soon. 👍
Wasn't good good enough for me. But still good content to show how low is low in Chiang Mai. If a unit was really good location and old building with old furniture etc, I'd consider spend my baht to update in exchange for a very long term cheap contract.
i am living in extreme POVERTY here in canada, my pension is $1000, minus all expenses i barely have food, i only eat 2 meals a day, on really cheap grocery food, i cook at home all the time., no car, no phone, 1 cellphone on per call basis, which i rarely use. Rent takes up 80% of my budget.
If tou can provide email address to contact these rooms for booking it will be helpful . I tried to call these people from France but they do not pick up phone call . I am planning Chiangmai trip next month . Thanks
"In case there's a logger in there"..... Nice. (But, I wonder...How's the WiFi?) If one was 'On the Lam', like Snowden, this place would be good. Or, a good place to meet up with your GiK.
Hello, The vido is nice and detailed but I am looking for accommodation in Chiang Ria with the prices you mentioned 50/70/100 per month and it is not important in the city center frim 27/11/2024. Thank you from Germany.
Thanks sir for answering my prayer,Matthew 7:7 ,wanted to go to chiangmai AGC church, was praying for room for rental,Thank you,2000 baht affordable and very reasonable for a month.
What about if your coming for a short while and you have a bigger budget, but can get a cheap room? Nothing wrong with that. I wouldn't come here with only $80 for a room though, agree with that buddy.
Ask a MAN, why do you need more than that simple basic room? The point of being on Vacation there is NOT to spend time your room at all. You do that Plenty at home already. Just a place to keep your belongings so you can go out and see and do things. Honestly, what's the point of a nice room when your goal is to see the sights of where you go? Laundry? Farm that out and have that done by someone else. Plenty of locals around to even fold the clothes nice for you for pick up if you can't find a laundry service close by. Besides, you know you are going to order a new bed, pillows etc anyways. Not to mention get a nice office chair or maybe new desk if your doing long stays. That and the A/C and food delivery coupled with just walking outside to pick up items takes care of your daily activity during the day. The whole point of visiting another country is to NOT BE IN THE ROOM! 😉 Get out there and see what there is. Having a cheap place to keep your stuff that is safe is really all that matters. For longer stays? I'd just rent a room in a person house out on the countryside or rural areas. Chances are they are already going to have A/C, so even lower costs. If you are the Typical Western Balloon? You should be walking everywhere anyways till you more or less resemble that locals that can fit 10 to 5 seater. Get out. Enjoy the Sunshine. Get some time at the Beach. And overall, get the western mindset of experiencing everything from the comfort of your home / room out of your mind. Start living.
If only life was that easy ay 🤣. But yeah, you hit the nail on the head really buddy. No need to go out of town in someones house for cheap electric though, find that everywhere. Longer stays would be a little bit different but again, you're spot on, someone could make this room work. cool comment. Cheers.

Bt.4000 can get you a very nice room, near CMU, with AC. And, on the plus side, living with students is so much better. Thai students are very respectful and thoughtful of others, at least the girls are.
Could maybe get a bit more off for 1 year. Maybe 1500. Loads of rooms for 4000 buddy, not only around UNI.
There was loads of shoes outside one room. Did they have many people staying in that room?!?! Looking forward to you coming to Phnom Penh!!!! Cheers brother.
It's the same where i live mate, one guy has got like 20 pairs of shoes outside🤣. I might be in Phnom Penh one day mate. Hope all is well.
Nice one mate ❤
Cheers buddy 👍
So does that include
utilities? Thanks
No, utilities are separate .
Gonna go to Phuket next year for few weeks, so maybe see you there mate
Nice one! You never know, you might see me 👍
Great, will give you a message when I do, maybe we could meet up if your not too busy 👍
Good value for those on a budget Wayne .My previous comment was removed so I'll keep my response short
@@paulsargent2343 I have loads of comments go missing mate. Even when i accept a comment that's been held for review, it will get blocked. Even if i accept it haha. I can see this one mate. I can't remember seeing a comment like that from you. Anyway we all good now.
Sick video! Could you do another video like this but for slightly higher budgets? I’m looking to move here in October and looking for options! Also what websites do you use to find these?
Nice one! This could be a good starting location.
I'd be interested in what the $160 range is like
I think nearly all my other condo reviews are around $160 mate. Loads of nice places around for that. Cheers buddy!
@@WalkAboutWayne I'll have to dig back through your channel, I was thinking about $200 was the low end.
@@jackoneil3933 Think i got a few around $160 mate. I'm sure the brand new Almaan was $160 or $170. and next door in the Arsh. I have heard that prices have changed now, so not sure if they still are the same.
@@WalkAboutWayne your a gem Wayne!!!
@@fearless6947 Respect to you mate.
Thank you so much for sharing ❤❤❤.
So.. repsected can we Cook or make our own food in that room once we live there? Can we do cooking at that home?
Sure, you can cook here, if you purchased a cooker.
@@WalkAboutWayne thank u ❤️
Ah ah you make my day mate ’ its not the best balcony
in the world 😂😂😂 third one look fine 2 previous one more like a cell.....
I was surprised by the last room, it wasn't bad at all. Thanks Julie.
Thanks.
Great price but I think I would buy my own mattress
I agree, get a new mattress and this place would be a lot better.
coffee time!
Green Tea all the way.
Sara
First room is good
👌👌
My wife and I are elderly people. We will be moving out of the US to Thailand within two years. Back in the 1970s I never would have even entertained the thought of leaving the US because it was a great country back then. Now the US is a hell hole.
I hope the big move goes well John. You’ll soon be living the good life in Thailand .
i am going to Thailand in november,... Do you know where to find cheap stay across all Thailand? Booking is not cheap at all...
Look at Facebook groups for the cities that your going. Chiang Mai has some cheap room groups. Nothing beats heading out on foot once you arrive though.
Hello Wayne. For the first apartment with air conditioning, is it 83 US dollars per month or per night?
Hello Charlie, the price is per month 👍
@@WalkAboutWayne thank you!
I'm not sure if i would prefer the Thapae area, but depends what you like. The walls are super thin in Thailand yes, can hear everything.
Very posh indeed but hardly the Chiang Mai Hilton at 2,000baht a month. Not exactly what i'm looking for but if they throw in the Brigette Nielson blow up doll that you took back to the museum i could be tempted. You "did" take her back i trust????
Also, not exactly the Bangkok Hilton. Look on the bright side.
I'm sure you could strike a deal for Bridget mate🤣
@@WalkAboutWayne If all else fails then at least it's a roof over your head mate and that's all that matters. Besides some people are on a very tight budget and something like that would suit 👍
Sir?..can i bring my family here to stay for at least 1 month only..? They only visit to see me ..do they allow us to live for a while..they will return when time is over..can we bring?
Probably, if it's still available 👍
Great Video Wayne, some more details will really help their contact number.
Location should be in the description. You can look them up. It's not the sort of places to make bookings though. Just turn up and see what rooms they have. Thanks.
Is there some overhead beam or similar that will hold a persons weight?
hahaha
@@WalkAboutWayne Saw a similar place in Pattaya some years ago where 3-5 bar girls were sharing. 3-4k IIRC. One mattress on the floor etc. You're correct that you can clean it up but my biggest concern after that would be noise.
Really great to see some very simple, very cheap, live-able rooms.
A couple of questions, if I may:
Thanks
@@WalkAboutWayne Okay. Cheers, Wayne.
It’s good value , as mentioned , if you are budgeting but preparing your expat retirement , you could save a packet for a 3 month + stay
Luv your work WW 👌😃👍👋🙏
For sure Ant, this would make a great stop gap while planning for something better. Cheers mate.
I bet its changed so much since then
It's change alot since then Raymond. A lot more bars now.
I was a captain for orient Thai airlines in chaing mai 1995 to 98. It was the best time of my life. I’m sure it’s all changed now
That second room was kind of dark and depressing.
Interesting
👌👌
All well and good - but for those who would need such low rents they likely can't deal with the Govt. immigration dysfunction and idiotic inconsistent policy ? The extra expense all that requires is likely a deal braker for many. -- Cambodia is a lot more welcoming and inexpensive !
True, it is a hassle to stay here with all the immigration costs and visits. I still live here really cheap though. I will have to try Cambodia soon. 👍
7:24 10:11 wow so many million dollar views 😆
Not bad for 48 quid.
80$ a month that’s crazy lol and it’s not a bad place at all
Yeah crazy right! It's not bad for $80
good price 2800 for the new room, you just need a place to sleep and take a bath.. you are also out and about the city all day
Looking on google maps that area is very cool, never been there, only drove through on the main road
It would be perfect for that mate. Just a place to lay your head.
@@WalkAboutWayne 🤣
Liked.
👍
I guess if I was on hard times , I can see living there mate
Yes, it’s an ok place for someone on a super tight budget 👍
Wasn't good good enough for me. But still good content to show how low is low in Chiang Mai. If a unit was really good location and old building with old furniture etc, I'd consider spend my baht to update in exchange for a very long term cheap contract.
Cheers mate! Yeah, it's a very basic place. Maybe an option for budget backpacker.
i am living in extreme POVERTY here in canada, my pension is $1000, minus all expenses i barely have food, i only eat 2 meals a day, on really cheap grocery food, i cook at home all the time., no car, no phone, 1 cellphone on per call basis, which i rarely use. Rent takes up 80% of my budget.
Sorry to hear that, I know it's tough living back in the west. Come to Thailand, you'll have a better life.
A room with the AC in London will set you back £ 700.00 a month
Crazy right !
If tou can provide email address to contact these rooms for booking it will be helpful . I tried to call these people from France but they do not pick up phone call . I am planning Chiangmai trip next month .
Thanks
I don't think they do bookings by email . I would keep trying or find another contact number online .
@@WalkAboutWayne Thanks
The first room was fine...
Yes, it's fine and could make it more homely 👍
"In case there's a logger in there"..... Nice. (But, I wonder...How's the WiFi?) If one was 'On the Lam', like Snowden, this place would be good. Or, a good place to meet up with your GiK.
Hopefully no loggers mate🤣
crazy farang looie...
Whatever that means, I'm down with it 👍
All i need is a room, wheelchair accessible
Yes, that can be difficult in Thailand.
Hello,
The vido is nice and detailed but I am looking for accommodation in Chiang Ria with the prices you mentioned 50/70/100 per month and it is not important in the city center frim 27/11/2024.
Thank you from Germany.
Lot's of great cheap places in Chiang Rai. You would need to look at some very basic places for under 100 though.
@@WalkAboutWayne Thank you and I Look that
i mean a week now im retired 2 pounds x

Thanks sir for answering my prayer,Matthew 7:7 ,wanted to go to chiangmai AGC church, was praying for room for rental,Thank you,2000 baht affordable and very reasonable for a month.
👍👍
Is this how the average Thai person lives? ❤
I can visualise the potential murder scene in that room wright there!
Haha🤣
it seems to be a bit that the old town, looks a bit more worn
Yes mate, these cheap rooms are normally the older Thai style.
If you're moving to Thailand and your budget is only 80/month you may want to consider your plans.
What about if your coming for a short while and you have a bigger budget, but can get a cheap room? Nothing wrong with that. I wouldn't come here with only $80 for a room though, agree with that buddy.
😂😂😂😂🤣
In london thats £1500
Yes! Still very cheap in Thailand
Don't think you can expect much more for those prices
That's right, can't expect much. It's not a bad deal, free wifi, TV, Fridge.
can you write address of this place? thanks
It should be in the video description. If not let me know and I will add it.
Insanely cheap! I guess it's possible to live in chiang mai on $500 a month!
For sure! $500 is doable.
Yes we live😂 anything
🙏🙏
norwich 2 pound a month 3 bedrooms
£2 a month? For a 3 bedroom house? Deal of the century 🤣
Not going to do it, but I could live there. I've lived in worse places here in the States!
The third room wasn't bad at all, i could stay there. TV, Balcony, private bathroom, free wifi.
Get out there and see what there is.
Cheers.
I guess you already said that. Sorry.
👍
Existing, not living. This would be $2000/month in San Francisco. ;-)
Why not living?
