I like the pocket idea. Looks big enough for a cell phone, keys, quick cash, etc. I did a Google search for small iron for sewing and several similar to this came up. Between $10-60 US. Happy Sewing!
I was thinking the same thing, if you sewed the outer edges of the inside pieces or even if you simply put a stitch in each corner then it gives the bag more functionality.
I love this tutorial. The bag would look great in any fabric. I'm thinking of using up some old clothes to make one A denim exterior would be so cute with pockets on it
Great tutorial, I love the shape as I sometimes wish I had a square bottom bag, instead of the usual rectangle shape. I'm going to add a removable base made out of a 10" square of plastic canvas covered with batting + fabric. This will give the bag some stability. Thank you for posting, best wishes from England!
In Oregon you have to furnish your own shopping bags or buy them from the store. I will definitely be making this bag in denim to carry canned goods, I love the square bottom instead of the rectangular bottom. Thanks for this useful simple easy to make bag!!!
I love the way that she took her time to demonstrate each step carefully for the viewers to see and make the bag. Awesome! Thank you for sharing. I will make this bag.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊
What a neat little bag. It would be ideal for small crochet projects, amongst other uses, especially as the bag can be hung on an arm or anywhere handy. I’m a pensioner now and worked in sewing for more years than I care to remember. We never cut corners, we didn’t have time. The trick is this, each seam is separate, do NOT sew round the corner. Sew completely down one side. Finish off, turn 90° then BEFORE sewing the next seam fold on the stitch line towards you, sew down the fold and complete the seam then repeat for all corners. Now fold each corner so it squares off turn and push out corners. This method prevents weakening the corners and stops that awful oops moment if too much is cut off and you find there is an unwanted hole. Thank you for this, I appreciate you sharing it with us.
Thank you for watching and for your lovely comments💕 Really enjoyed reading about your experiences.❤️ it was very informative😍😍 Thanks for sharing. Best wishes for all your projects 👍🥰🥰
I like the look of the bag and the relative ease of constructing it. I see someone else commented that they would leave those last parts open for pockets. I agree. I might figure out how to add even more pockets. My main problem with large open bags is that I can never find anything. In a bag with pockets or zipped compartments, I can designate various places for pens, sunglasses, credit cards, makeup, etc. I might even add velcro to each pocket to hold them shut. Before sewing the main pieces together, I might also add some iron-on interfacing to give it sturdiness & help it hold its shape. And maybe add something to hold the top closed. I can't tell you how many times I've accidentally dumped everything from an open-topped bag on the floor.
I am glad you liked it & Wow you have so many great ideas.👌❤️ I would love to know how it turned out for you.😊 All the best for your project👍💕 Have a nice day 😍

Thank you for such a lovely video with easy instructions. And thanks for the people that left comments to make pockets, now I’ll do two bags, one with pockets for my lighter groceries and one with the reinforced corners for when I have canned goods. Thanks!❤❤
This is a great bag idea. But think I will add some interfacing and maybe even some batting to give it a little more body. Thanks for sharing this 😁 Could even quilt it lol
Omg the music you have in the video is probably the most relaxing music I've ever heard on a tutorial. I wanted to light a candle and just close my eyes lol Beautiful bag too.
Excellent demo. I teach hand sewing to young students. I can reproduce this using the felt as a sewing project. I will add one tip for sewing this bag as I've seen it on bags my friend made. She uses a strip of fabric stitched on the outside with the woven strapping. This provides a durable and pretty handle.
I love tote bags and yours is very clever and easy. I also thought pockets, but those triangles give the bag body and structure. Thanks so much for sharing and for the clear concise tutorial ❤🎉
What a wonderful design, thank you. I considered pockets, but decided to try a plastic insert to strengthen the corners. It is cut to fit inside the triangle, and scored in the center to make the sides square, not bulging. Will probably use plastic cutting board for the inserts. I’ll have to try this. 🙏☺️🦋
This is a pretty, very easy bag! The only thing I would do differently is sew the inner points down the sides to make them pockets for small items. Very nice, thank you!!
This would be great for carrying certain groceries from the car into your home. For example, because I have bad arthritis in both hands, wrists and elbows, carrying in a gallon jug of milk can really hurt my joints, especially my hands if I use the built in handle. With this square bucket bag, I could easily place the gallon jug inside this bag (using both hands) and carry the milk in over my forearm. I don't use the handles of the plastic grocery bags that way, because I've had too many plastic handles tear and break, sending my groceries all over the garage floor. Thanks for sharing.
Love this! Easy to follow. I would probably leave the inside corners open for pockets. I would sew the sides of the triangles by hand to the lining to hold them in place. Thank you so much!!!
Great idea! Clear instructions. I have an older dress that would be great as the outside piece. Definitely making this. Like the suggestions from others on pockets. keep those patterns coming!!!!
I just made this bag. I made pockets out of the triangles & reinforced the top edges. Plan to make a few more but will put straps on inside of bag. Probably will use some scraps and sew together a few more to have on hand for gifts. I enjoyed all the little details. Thanks for the video!
Checking in from Indiana, United States! I've never seen this design before, and I think it would be perfect to use it for when you pack a sack lunch and add other items!
I think a lot of us had the same idea - instead of sewing those triangles closed, I'd just sew down the sides and leave the top open for inside pockets. I usually have trouble following when the person isn't talking but this was very detailed, I'll definitely be making one of these bags soon!

If I'm going to carry something like a bag for my groceries (which is what I assumed this is for), I want it to do everything! I'd use those 'pockets' so that I could use them for things like a water bottle, pens, brush, small hand sanitiser & mask, debit card, because we'll have another virus of some sort when we'll need to wear masks & sanitise hands, even for the winter flu, .... instead having all that extra thickness of the double layers of fabric just taking up space inside even if they are 'just corners', when it could be useful! I'd also have added a narrow piece of fabric for a 'phone ... & I'd have sewn the handles inside the bag and so that I could clip my keys onto the handle so they would hang inside rather than outside of the bag. I know what I have in my mind, but I'm sure that if you just think about it, you'll figure out exactly what I mean, how to 'finish them off' inside (sewing on the edges of the 2 layers of fabric), and how to achieve it easily. I'd leave them as pockets for small bottles when packing groceries in it, or my keys & phone. All sorts.
@@anissaroberts1403 Was thinking the same thing but maybe try sewing down the sides of the "cone" pocket for these items.
Brilliant. Thank you.
