      Not true in what way? Diamond may have slight differences in its exact chemical structure and, thus, may be categorized into different types. The types created in labs are very rare in nature. Considering this, a spectral analysis may identify a diamond as natural or created with ~98% certainty.
      EDIT: It would be ironic if the natural diamonds of the same chemical types as created diamonds were actually created diamonds that Bebeers produced and falsely sold as natural diamonds.

    Another side of the value issue is that diamond dealers exaggerate how much a diamond will actually be worth secondhand. Although resale value of natural diamonds will be significantly higher than the resale value of a lab diamond, the natural diamond will likely lose more value than what you paid for the lab diamond to begin with. So, financial planning isn’t on the side of natural diamonds.

      THE STUD
      You are talking about extreme cases. I can buy a ring with a quality 0.7ct natural diamond for ~$4k from my local jeweler. Based upon stories online, reselling it for $2k would be unthinkable; getting less than $1k seems more realistic. I could buy an equivalent ring with a lab diamond for ~$2k.
      So, I buy a natural diamond ring for $4k and resell for $1.5k, losing $2.5k. But, I could buy the same ring with a lab gem for $2k. So, the ring with the natural diamond would lose more value than the ring with the lab diamond costs retail.
      I was considering a $1.2k 0.8ct loose lab diamond vs a $3k natural diamond based upon shopping that I have done for loose gems. You would be lucky to get 60% of your money back from reselling a loose natural diamond, which means you would sell it for $1.8k at a loss of $1.2k, the value of the lab diamond.
      I am assuming a resale value of $0 for the ring with a lab diamond, which is very generous in favor of the natural diamond. The math still doesn’t work out. Natural diamonds will increase in value as they become more scarce, but lab diamond will decrease in value as production increases. I expect these to balance each other out so that the math results in the same conclusion.
      But, don't expect the natural diamond to increase in value so much that it significantly increases the percentage of the resale value. The increase in lab diamond production will reduce the demand of natural diamonds, which will likely compensate for the decrease in supply of natural diamonds. So, it could be that the actual retail value of natural diamonds changes very little.

      @Austin1990 4 года назад +8

      THE STUD
      In the last 10 years, the cost of rough diamonds increased by ~40%. If the resale value of a diamond bought in 2010 was a generous 60% of retail, it would sell for 85% of its 2010 retail price. That is still a loss and nothing to brag about. The largest gains in value over the last 20 years are due to inflation anyway, making it even less brag-worthy.
      Those numbers are just for the loose diamonds. If you buy a ring, it will look worse. And, all my estimates before assumed a $0 value for not just lab diamonds but for the settings as well.
      There simply isn’t a financial justification for natural diamonds. People can buy them if they want, but the financial investment deception is just to help customers justify the cost. And, we are not talking about the insanely rare gems. We are talking about what jewelers are selling when they argue that it is an investment.
      Edit: As much as the numbers favor lab diamonds, I think they are still too expensive. The market will be very different when lab diamonds are little more expensive than moissanite.

      Austin P you are talking non sense here. You said natural diamonds will lose more value in the long run than lab created diamonds I already won this argument coz I've given you proof on how they appreciated in value. Lab created diamonds used to costs thousands of dollars per carat but De Beers Lightbox Jewellery are selling 1 carat diamonds for $800 per carat! No idiot would spend more than $800 for a second hand lab created diamond. Whereas natural diamonds they will continue to increase in value overtime.

    Debeers bought out Gemesis back about a decade ago.. The owner of Genesis who was growing diamonds with tech he bought from Post Soviet auctions of tech that had been sitting on shelves brought it back and filled a warehouse full... He had videos on RUclips that have since been scrubbed off RUclips and the internet.. He said his goal was to put De Beers out of business.. After a meeting he had in Antwerp, the business was sold to De Beers, and the scrubbing was initiated. They had to build a better spectrometer to detect the extremely minute differences.. All diamonds should have dropped to the similar prices of mid range gem stones years ago.. Now, did De Beers threaten his life.. Probably, IMO,.. The owner told, in yOutube videos that his hard costs per carat were about $35-50 per karat and yellow were easier to make than clear but all colors could be done.. The highest costs are the middle men.. Has been and continues to be.. You are on point with the price prediction though.. 3Kt about $3.8 - 4.5K right now.. That still seems way high to me.. Thanks for the good information ✌

    Here is the scenario: Honey, I just bought a natural diamond of 10 carrots it cost hundreds of thousands of dollars it is one of the rarest jewels in the world! Because you mean that much to me the other scenario:
    Honey, I just purchased a 10 carat lab grown diamond. It's the same as the natural diamond except it was created in a lab. The blemishes on the diamond were created in a lab also and I'm not the same as a natural diamond. However, the natural diamond took thousands of years to create, and this lab ground diamond was created in a day in a lab! Lol which one do you think she would think would be the special diamond!

    I don’t understand why diamonds out of the ground are considered more valuable. Wouldn’t mined diamonds drop in value considering the lab grown diamonds are bigger and conflict free? It’s the exact thing as a mined diamond considering the material properties. I don’t see how mines diamonds hold there value. If it’s based on consumer psychology then I would have to imagine that changes. Especially with the younger generation. What are your thoughts?

      StreetKing Productions what means natural diamonds? The extrem prices they’re asking for “natural diamonds” is even not the point. The expensive prices are hold high by making sure they’re controlling the amount of it that is released to the markets. So you paying just an unbelievable amount for diamonds where the prices are controlled. No difference by laboratory produced diamonds, just clearly better in price and no difference in quality.
      Think about.

    We call BullSh***t! Diamonds in general are absolutely one of the worst investments you can make. It's like buying a new car, then expecting the price for it to increase as time goes on...You lost money as soon as you drove off the lot. And in reality, you LOSE way more trading a diamond back in... around a 50% loss. And yes the resale/trade-in value of lab grown diamonds are even worse than that.

    • @stevemqn4053
      @stevemqn4053 3 года назад

      @Ian S I'm sorry, What part isn't true?? In your opinion, what can the average person expect back when selling back a diamond ring from the retail price? And please explain the fluctuating point, at what point does that fluctuation benefit someone selling their diamond ring back? Please enlighten us, or is "moron" the best you can do.

    • @stevemqn4053
      @stevemqn4053 3 года назад

      @Ian S So no real explanation for your remark..Trying to compare diamonds to stock or commodities shows how little you know about investments. People buying Diamonds at retail are NOT investing in anything. Dealers and wholesalers yes will make a profit...Just like car dealers.

      @stevemqn4053 3 года назад

    • @stevemqn4053
      @stevemqn4053 3 года назад

      So you have no argument. The whole point of my comments are about are about retail buying and losing money as soon as you walk out of a jewelry store. What you are explaining is wholesaling. Which the average person/couple do not do. They are told diamonds are an investment when buying engagement rings, only to find out at least 50% of the value of the diamond is nullified when try to sell it back. When they try to sell back they are getting more money for the metal than the diamond they purchased. You apparently have trouble proving your point so, I'll let you go on this one. Please re-read comments before you pop-off and post without thinking. Because it's apparent you don't an argument, only insults.

    Literally nobody can tell the difference unless you are on Real Housewives of Orange County will even give a sh*t. Completely wrong on scaling. There is supply and demand that goes with scaling. This does not have a direct correlation to price drop at all. For example look at Nike Jordan shoes. Regardless how high the demand is they only make a certain supply. You are in fact completely wrong. The demand drives price not quantity. If people are willing to pay 30% less than "mined diamonds" then it will stay at that same price regardless as long as they are willing to pay that price.
    The most important lesson people are missing here is the fact that diamonds are essentially worth what people are willing to pay. Sure diamonds have some uses and are extremely durable (aka why they are wedding rings and look good) similar to gold. At the end of the day you are WEARING A COLORLESS REAL DIAMOND.

      @@uptownscenery9175 labs actually do have inclusions as well, that’s a myth that went around for some time. Sometimes their inclusions look different, but that’s only through one process of creation. Most lab diamonds will have very normal looking pinpoint inclusions. Also, as far as I know, there are labs that can be bought wholesale before they are sent to a grading lab, not all diamonds in general have a serial number. Aside from that, it has been shown time and time again that most jewelers can’t tell the difference at all even with some lab process red flags. There are not any machines that will test a lab diamond as a non diamond, and if they do it’s likely actually related to the clarity/inclusions of the diamond rather than the fact that it’s “not real”
