Another side of the value issue is that diamond dealers exaggerate how much a diamond will actually be worth secondhand. Although resale value of natural diamonds will be significantly higher than the resale value of a lab diamond, the natural diamond will likely lose more value than what you paid for the lab diamond to begin with. So, financial planning isn’t on the side of natural diamonds.
wrong coz natural color diamonds increased in value year after year just research how much the original costs of natural diamonds before they were auctioned the The Oppenheimer Blue was sold for $4 million dollars per carat. The Archduke Joseph Diamond was auctioned in 2006 for $6 million dollars and it was sold in 2012 again for $26 million!
THE STUD You are talking about extreme cases. I can buy a ring with a quality 0.7ct natural diamond for ~$4k from my local jeweler. Based upon stories online, reselling it for $2k would be unthinkable; getting less than $1k seems more realistic. I could buy an equivalent ring with a lab diamond for ~$2k. So, I buy a natural diamond ring for $4k and resell for $1.5k, losing $2.5k. But, I could buy the same ring with a lab gem for $2k. So, the ring with the natural diamond would lose more value than the ring with the lab diamond costs retail. I was considering a $1.2k 0.8ct loose lab diamond vs a $3k natural diamond based upon shopping that I have done for loose gems. You would be lucky to get 60% of your money back from reselling a loose natural diamond, which means you would sell it for $1.8k at a loss of $1.2k, the value of the lab diamond. I am assuming a resale value of $0 for the ring with a lab diamond, which is very generous in favor of the natural diamond. The math still doesn’t work out. Natural diamonds will increase in value as they become more scarce, but lab diamond will decrease in value as production increases. I expect these to balance each other out so that the math results in the same conclusion. But, don't expect the natural diamond to increase in value so much that it significantly increases the percentage of the resale value. The increase in lab diamond production will reduce the demand of natural diamonds, which will likely compensate for the decrease in supply of natural diamonds. So, it could be that the actual retail value of natural diamonds changes very little.
Austin P extreme cases? The Arcduke Joseph diamond was sold in 1996 for $6 million dollars. In 2012 it solf for over $26 million dollars! That's just one of the many examples. A diamond worth $4k dollars today is much much cheaper in distant past. Now how many lab created diamond do you know that is worth more once resold? NONE
THE STUD In the last 10 years, the cost of rough diamonds increased by ~40%. If the resale value of a diamond bought in 2010 was a generous 60% of retail, it would sell for 85% of its 2010 retail price. That is still a loss and nothing to brag about. The largest gains in value over the last 20 years are due to inflation anyway, making it even less brag-worthy. Those numbers are just for the loose diamonds. If you buy a ring, it will look worse. And, all my estimates before assumed a $0 value for not just lab diamonds but for the settings as well. There simply isn’t a financial justification for natural diamonds. People can buy them if they want, but the financial investment deception is just to help customers justify the cost. And, we are not talking about the insanely rare gems. We are talking about what jewelers are selling when they argue that it is an investment. Edit: As much as the numbers favor lab diamonds, I think they are still too expensive. The market will be very different when lab diamonds are little more expensive than moissanite.
Austin P you are talking non sense here. You said natural diamonds will lose more value in the long run than lab created diamonds I already won this argument coz I've given you proof on how they appreciated in value. Lab created diamonds used to costs thousands of dollars per carat but De Beers Lightbox Jewellery are selling 1 carat diamonds for $800 per carat! No idiot would spend more than $800 for a second hand lab created diamond. Whereas natural diamonds they will continue to increase in value overtime.
Debeers bought out Gemesis back about a decade ago.. The owner of Genesis who was growing diamonds with tech he bought from Post Soviet auctions of tech that had been sitting on shelves brought it back and filled a warehouse full... He had videos on RUclips that have since been scrubbed off RUclips and the internet.. He said his goal was to put De Beers out of business.. After a meeting he had in Antwerp, the business was sold to De Beers, and the scrubbing was initiated. They had to build a better spectrometer to detect the extremely minute differences.. All diamonds should have dropped to the similar prices of mid range gem stones years ago.. Now, did De Beers threaten his life.. Probably, IMO,.. The owner told, in yOutube videos that his hard costs per carat were about $35-50 per karat and yellow were easier to make than clear but all colors could be done.. The highest costs are the middle men.. Has been and continues to be.. You are on point with the price prediction though.. 3Kt about $3.8 - 4.5K right now.. That still seems way high to me.. Because you mean that much to me the other scenario: Honey, I just purchased a 10 carat lab grown diamond. It's the same as the natural diamond except it was created in a lab. The blemishes on the diamond were created in a lab also and I'm not the same as a natural diamond. However, the natural diamond took thousands of years to create, and this lab ground diamond was created in a day in a lab! Lol which one do you think she would think would be the special diamond!

I don’t understand why diamonds out of the ground are considered more valuable. Wouldn’t mined diamonds drop in value considering the lab grown diamonds are bigger and conflict free? It’s the exact thing as a mined diamond considering the material properties. I don’t see how mines diamonds hold there value. And please explain the fluctuating point, at what point does that fluctuation benefit someone selling their diamond ring back? Please enlighten us, or is "moron" the best you can do.
@Ian S So no real explanation for your remark..Trying to compare diamonds to stock or commodities shows how little you know about investments. People buying Diamonds at retail are NOT investing in anything. Dealers and wholesalers yes will make a profit...Just like car dealers.
@Ian S Absolutely, let get the bus running Mr. bus driver, please explain the process for in buying a diamond at retail price, then walking to another jewelry store and selling it for a profit?
So you have no argument. The whole point of my comments are about are about retail buying and losing money as soon as you walk out of a jewelry store. What you are explaining is wholesaling. Which the average person/couple do not do. They are told diamonds are an investment when buying engagement rings, only to find out at least 50% of the value of the diamond is nullified when try to sell it back. When they try to sell back they are getting more money for the metal than the diamond they purchased. You apparently have trouble proving your point so, I'll let you go on this one. Please re-read comments before you pop-off and post without thinking. Because it's apparent you don't an argument, only insults.
Literally nobody can tell the difference unless you are on Real Housewives of Orange County will even give a sh*t. Completely wrong on scaling. There is supply and demand that goes with scaling. This does not have a direct correlation to price drop at all. For example look at Nike Jordan shoes. Regardless how high the demand is they only make a certain supply. You are in fact completely wrong. The demand drives price not quantity. If people are willing to pay 30% less than "mined diamonds" then it will stay at that same price regardless as long as they are willing to pay that price. The most important lesson people are missing here is the fact that diamonds are essentially worth what people are willing to pay. Sure diamonds have some uses and are extremely durable (aka why they are wedding rings and look good) similar to gold. At the end of the day you are WEARING A COLORLESS REAL DIAMOND.
I've got these two identical things provided by company A and company B. No one can tell the difference. The one thing from A is more expensive than the one from B and the prices at B are falling. What will happen to company A? It will go out of business while company B sells more and more and customers are happier.

@@uptownscenery9175 labs actually do have inclusions as well, that’s a myth that went around for some time. Sometimes their inclusions look different, but that’s only through one process of creation. Most lab diamonds will have very normal looking pinpoint inclusions. Also, as far as I know, there are labs that can be bought wholesale before they are sent to a grading lab, not all diamonds in general have a serial number. Aside from that, it has been shown time and time again that most jewelers can’t tell the difference at all even with some lab process red flags. There are so many more uses for rare gemstones and metals other then jewelry

Guess what, I don't give a shit. We all are a burden on the environment, get over it. Last time I checked, it wasn't slaves. Most stores ensure they're not blood diamonds.
How much energy do you think lab diamonds consume?
USFTC released that lab diamonds aren't really "environmentally friendly" it requires tons of energy 24/7 nonstop to make a diamond. Thousands of sqm turned into factories.
Number one way to help the environment, dont have children
Diamond business is finished. Diamonds aren't worth anything. Just looks pretty
Yeah that's why jewels have been valuables for 10000 years 😂
I said verbatim what you said to my girlfriend when I proposed to her. Then she broke up with me.
No diamond, no wife. Miss wife.

@@yacked think about this, a pre-owned diamond is the exact same thing as a brand new diamond. They're practically indistinguishable. Yet when you go to sell your pre-owned Diamond, you're getting less than half of what you paid for it. Then couple the fact that diamonds are being manufactured in Labs now which are indistinguishable from natural diamonds. That's driving the value down. In the future, when the cost to manufacture diamonds in a lab goes even cheaper, the value of a natural diamond will plummet. Lastly, diamonds aren't inherently rare in the first place. In the future when consumers begin to realize that supply has been controlled for decades and that there is no Rarity, people will stop focusing on diamonds for value and simply enjoy them because they are beautiful
No, diamond never did nothing for you. Is cheaper cause of the internet humans are getring smart... back then ppl pay 200k for any shiny stone.
Lol I don’t buy jewelry to sell I buy it to wear it
So I’m paying more Kuz they digged it out 😂😂😂😂
Not at all. Yes you pay the certain fee which is understandable but this dude is just trying to market his own stuff. Real diamonds are found everywhere they don’t need to go any deeper they can just move over to another area

The very fact that jewelry suppliers don't mix lab-grown diamonds and natural diamonds is extremely telling. Natural diamonds have their prices egregiously inflated because of their 'history'. Lab-growns are literally the same, down to their chemical structure, are more ethical, and of higher quality. Mix some naturals in a bag of lab-growns and their prices will all normalize down to the lab-grown's prices.
There should be no regulation requirement to disclose lab grown versus mine diamonds. Why? Its a diamond. Do they disclose Russian, South African or Canadian diamonds? Sometime, but not required.
@@lewislane1143 So you're telling me that if you were to buy a diamond and ruby ring, and paying good money for it, that it would be perfectly fine to charge you the same amount for a real gemstone and give you lab grown gems instead? No way dude.
@@cathifamjourney469 First of all, we are talking about diamond, not other gem stones. Secondly, please get this straight, they are both REAL diamonds. Same in every aspect other than how it was made.
yes the business is screwed. ill give it 10 years.
If history repeats itself, Debeers aren’t trying to drive costs down, they are trying to undersell competition out of business, so they can control that market, too. Then, the price of lab will increase to what is is Today or higher. We, too work with small markups, but do custom to pick up that end to keep the doors open.
I don't buy diamond as investment. People buy them as jewelry.
Good to know.. problem is how to tell a organic diamond from a lab diamond??? Diamond tester can’t even tell difference. Buying jewelry is a waste of money. Unless your buying pure gold sellers are winning ripping people off setting there own prices..💯👍🏾
You can’t tell a difference. At all.
Diamonds are not investments pal
People will still buy & admired lab diamond.. Because lab diamond way more cheaper & get more cheaper than natural diamond. For quality.?? Meh.. Its the same. So why buy the destructive & more expensive one?
Stop spreading lies. Natural diamonds loose value massively too. At least with lab grown you pay less to begin with. That way you end up loosing less money with lab grown diamonds.
I agree with the idea of buying moissanite or even lab grown diamonds, really bcuz of costs, I mean they are still reading as diamonds, jus the moissanite tend to be more colorful and not as hard as mined diamond. And the carat is actually bigger!
But yea you are probably limited on the other 4cs, but who cares lol..
I have sold a few of my real diamond rings for.... pennies....its not a good investment on money. I think the lab diamonds is the way to go. They are beautiful and easy to create ...and so much less expensive
There is no chemical difference between a lab diamond and a mined diamond. The cost argument he's making is hilariously bad.
Good luck reselling natural diamonds. Unless you are buying in wholesale parcels you are taking a hit. Diamonds Natural or Not are not rate so it’s good drive the price down
Wrong! The Archduke Joseph Diamond was first sold in 2006 for $6 million but in 2012 it sold again for $26 million dollars!
David Robertson yeah but let’s say wedding rings 50% divorce rate they will try and sell.
@@thestud1881 - That was a rare museum quality collectors piece and very few of those exist. The price of museum quality pieces will always rise. The other 99.9 percent of diamonds people buy are just ordinary stones and won't retain the value of what was paid for them even if they are earth mined.
@@GeorgeGetsItDone we're not in the 1700s anymore, if women get a divorce they will get alimony or a job to support them.
lol people are spending thousands on lab diamonds when you can literally buy real diamonds for the same price. It’s laughable how stupid people become at the thought of having to ‘waste money’ on natural diamonds that they end up spending more money on a lab created one. 😂 do your research folks rather than assuming that all diamonds must cost half your paycheck. There are stores out there that sell REAL diamonds for a very good price. Learn about cut, color and clarity. All those things make a huge difference. And don’t buy brand names
Im not sure you can call any jewellery an investment piece unless its by a renown designer maybe .
You’re a goon for saying mined diamonds are more expensive due to the cost of labor in extracting them from the ground. Please explain to the people how an individual getting paid 10$ per day (if that) for digging up diamonds equates to a price difference of 55% on a diamond. For the people reading this...never buy a mined diamond. There is no justification when we consider price manipulation, enslavement, and environmental damage. You’re basically paying twice as much so that cheap labor can be exploited, natural terrain demolished, and a country kept poor.
Mining diamonds from ground costs more due to them being dug from ground, cost that consists with this including fuel costs, plantation costs, equipment costs, maintaince costs, employee costs, Tax costs, transport costs etc... You fail to acknowledge this into your simple brains
@@mostbrutalvideos4612
Then why do it? Why mine diamonds when they cost more and are more detrimental to the environment? It's beyond stupid. Lab-made diamonds are the exact same thing on the microscopic and macroscopic level.
Falling for the propaganda, when you know it's the exact same thing, is stupid.

I don't think I'm gonna "get over" environmental issues and shitty business practices. "How things are done" remains a stupid way to do things.
@@mostbrutalvideos4612 this is a non answer. The funny thing about business is if you invest in a shitty product like diamonds mined with slave labor, you might not like it when people decide it's not nearly as valuable as a bigger diamond that doesn't involve shitty business practices. It's only valuable right now because the older generation doesn't give a shit about the environment and poor working conditions. They're also easily sold on pitches like this. Mined diamonds will deflate the same as lab diamonds over time.
The thousands of $ lost is by all diamonds exactly the same. The time you pay it 10 minutes after you lost 40% already. Diamonds are a bad investment, it was time that the science finally proved that diamonds are completely overpriced.
The diamond market was controlled and most diamonds never reached the market. Now with values falling it makes no sense to control supply, so prepare for big falls.
Not everyone buys diamonds as an investment lmao
He’s talking as if we pay the people who collect the diamonds. At least lab grown diamonds are trace able and humane.
They’re not humane… thats what lab grown diamond makers want you to believe. They require an insane amount of electricity which comes from fossil fuels.
It’s laughable how people rush to spend thousands on the latest yeezys but diamonds are a ‘waste of money’. Buy whatever the hell you want... if you can afford it. I can afford real diamonds so I buy them. Not everyone buys stuff with the intention of reselling them.
lol the amount of cope comments on here...
I. Need a custom piece and a tennnsi chain
Who digs in the diamond mines?

How many rappers where lab diamonds? If they all test like real diamonds.. ima have to start asking for there GIA CERTIFICATE LOL
THE STUD
You are talking about extreme cases.
NONE
THE STUD
In the last 10 years, the cost of rough diamonds increased by ~40%.
Thanks for the good information ✌
Once a lab grown, DIAMOND keeps Bottoming lower and lower and price, It'll be a worthless, which it is already piece of crap! It ruins, the whole aura of what a diamond is, and the value of a diamond
Here is the scenario: Honey, I just bought a natural diamond of 10 carrots it cost hundreds of thousands of dollars it is one of the rarest jewels in the world! Because you mean that much to me the other scenario:
Honey, I just purchased a 10 carat lab grown diamond.

If it’s based on consumer psychology then I would have to imagine that changes. Especially with the younger generation. What are your thoughts?
Joshua Howard blood sweat hard work makes it highly real fake overnight man made not ova the years

Because the natural diamond industry is a huge scam! Some people are still too dumb to realize!
StreetKing Productions what means natural diamonds? The extrem prices they’re asking for “natural diamonds” is even not the point. The expensive prices are hold high by making sure they’re controlling the amount of it that is released to the markets. So you paying just an unbelievable amount for diamonds where the prices are controlled. No difference by laboratory produced diamonds, just clearly better in price and no difference in quality.
Think about.
It jus depends on the individual, you wana buy something that holds it's value overtime for whatever reason, or u jus wana look gud for a season.. Me personally, I jus wana look gud in my season, I'm not worried bout it holding value, cant take it with you...

Real diamonds are worthless the resell value is BS. The real valuable diamonds are not available to the majority of people and are hard to come by. Better stick with lab grown.
Regular diamonds lose value too unless it's very rare stone. You can get estate rings as a rule much cheaper debates has been sitting on huge supplies forever and only releasing a few to vastly increase mark up. This video is overselling natural diamonds

1st lie mining and transportation of natural diamond is cheaper because they are done in 3rd world countries using free or cheap labor. Lab grown diamond are made in developed countries that pay fair wages.
Then you have to think of tariffs the retail price here and the price of inspecting them weeding out the bad ones grading them by time the get to store here the price is higher but they are not that expensive

Information regarding depreciation is entirely incorrect. I bought my wife's engagement ring 10 years ago for $450 from Diamond Nexus. That same ring today is $1,000. Lab created diamonds do not depreciate in value.

We call BullSh***t! Diamonds in general are absolutely one of the worst investments you can make. It's like buying a new car, then expecting the price for it to increase as time goes on...You lost money as soon as you drove off the lot. And in reality, you LOSE way more trading a diamond back in... around a 50% loss. And yes the resale/trade-in value of lab grown diamonds are even worse than that.
@Ian S I'm sorry, What part isn't true?? In your opinion, what can the average person expect back when selling back a diamond ring from the retail price?

De Beers sells lab grown diamonds for $800 per carat. VS1 very good cut and color G or F
Diamonds lab or natural only make sense for traders,

@@uptownscenery9175 labs actually do have inclusions as well, that’s a myth that went around for some time. Sometimes their inclusions look different, but that’s only through one process of creation. Most lab diamonds will have very normal looking pinpoint inclusions. Also, as far as I know, there are labs that can be bought wholesale before they are sent to a grading lab, not all diamonds in general have a serial number. Aside from that, it has been shown time and time again that most jewelers can’t tell the difference at all even with some lab process red flags. There are not any machines that will test a lab diamond as a non diamond, and if they do it’s likely actually related to the clarity/inclusions of the diamond rather than the fact that it’s “not real”
