She did win the Tony the year before for "Beautiful", so it's hard pressed to win 2 years in a row, no matter how good you are. Besides, Cynthia Erivo who won was very deserving as well.

I show my young theatre students a clip of Jessie in performance Singing this and it always just blows them away without very little introduction. She has that extra quality! That special something.

Okay the word "mine" is officially the worst word ever. In hamilton, Eliza singing "Burn", she says "You said you were _mine_" which kills me. In Heathers, J.D. singing "Meant to be Yours", he says "You were meant to _mine_" which also kills me. Now in Waitress the word is also not okay and from now on if someone tells me that word I will cry.

Yeah I don't think the Broadway version needed to have the visuals at the back. Jessie's (and every Jenna since her) voice is more than enough to deliver the impact.
Hamilton is great and all, but *THIS DESERVED AT LEAST 2 FUCKING TONYS.* I love hamilton, I had a huge obsession over it a few months ago, but even then I did and still do believe that 12 tonys is pretty extreme. For example, I don't think it should have one best book, because it barely has one. It's an opera with like 18 spoken normal words in all 2 hours and 46 minutes.

Damn... this... this is acting. This is what you do with a monologue whether you sing it or not. You pour every bit of your soul into it and you take those emotions and you use them to fuel it.
It is more delicate and softer in its vulnerability to me- reflective building to wrenching, rather than the strongly belted (but still effective and nuanced) Broadway version. I like it this way too- it's more real.
I’m kinda mad I’ve only just seen this because it made me fall in love with this song again. For a few years it’s just been the shouty belty big sad one all the girls think they can sing at auditions, similar to Burn or On My Own. But this made me realise how fragile and devastating it is, and how much of a masterpiece the whole song is. It doesn’t feel like I’m listening to a singer sing this song, I’m all the way back to feeling Jenna in her darkest moments as her hope rips apart. It’s beautiful xx

This is in the key of G. That's the key that I've seen Jessie Mueller sing in most live recordings, although the cast recording of her has it in G flat/F sharp (one half step lower). Sara Bareilles sings it in the key of F (a full step lower than this recording).
They originally used this key but later on, Jessie's finding it harder to reach the high notes again and again so they lowered the key onwards. Atleast that's what I know

Another thing i love about the art version is how messy the stage look during this part, the house looks lived in and messy, which should be the case i feel, I mean earl just had a weird breakdown and she wouldn't really be in the mood to clean up right them. That's why some of the newer versions on Broadway look kinda TOO clean in my opinion idk
