Not really closer - depends upon starting point in TX and destination in CA. Driving Del Rio (on the border) to San Diego (closest major CA city) is ~17 hours, to SF ~24 hours, to Chicago ~19.5.

@@donaldmaxie9742 that kind of makes my point, depends on origin and destination. I didn't know where the bus originated, so I picked somewhere give or take halfway from Brownsville to El Paso. For all I know they could have shipped them up to San Antonio for processing then on to a sanctuary city - that would have put Chicago and San Diego about the same distance.
I looked it up, the bus to Chicago originated in Eagle Pass, TX. That's a bit farther to both destinations - still closer to San Diego but farther to SF than Chicago.
Abbott needs to send tens of thousands to these citys to get the point across not a few dozen.

My city received some of those "midnight migrant flights" last year that were Federal ... A month later we were having the largest spike of Delta in the State...and of course the ER's were flooded,, Doctor offices locked down while local news "spread the fear" to the frightened.. As someone who was homeless for almost five years, I hate that these illegal immigrants get hand-outs and resources I never got. Resources that I should ha w gotten as a young member of this nation. Because of the lack of support, I have been hindered in my ability to grow as a person.

The fact you are trying to blame them for your poor situation is probably part of the reason you were homeless in the first place. You aren't going to grow as a person blaming others for your problems. As someone who lived and worked at the border several decades ago, we begged the Feds for help there, and for our local border hospital, who many days had more illegal aliens having babies (for which the citizens have to cover the cost to keep the hospital open), and we never got the help we needed. If not for the numerous people traveling from Canada to the area for surgeries, they were waiting 2 to 3 years for in Canada, our hospital would have gone under. The nearest large hospitals to ours were 3-4 hours away. You can't believe what the people in these smaller border towns have to put up with. I'm GLAD to see governors step up and send them to sanctuary cities. Because border towns are NO SANCTUARY FOR CITIZENS! Most of those crossing the border are already criminals, many have been here before and were deported because of crimes they committed. You only hear about children in the news. But the majority are trafficking drugs, etc., across that border.
They should drop them off in front of the white house 🤷🏽♂️

I used to be a supporter but not anymore after this crisis. Abbott has the authority to bus them back to Mexico, but is sending them further into our country. He needs to declare an invasion & shut this down, like bordertown police & Sheriff's begged him to do last month in a letter they all signed. They tried to pressure him into taking meaningful action because so far he hasn't. He hid in the Gov's mansion a couple days, then announced another smoke & mirrors publicity stunt. He's very good at talking tough, but never backs it up. Once a month he announces new "unprecedented action" yet the numbers continue to rise. Take a look at all the "unprecedented action" he's announced the past 19 mths to see what I'm talking about. 30,000 pour in every single day & he's sending a couple hundred to 3 states, & didn't even start until a couple months ago because the elections coming up. He's getting a lot of attention & praise for it, but it's truly unearned. I certainly don't want Beto O'Rourke to win, but Texans & the rest of us need to hold Abbott & Ducey accountable. For some reason it is extremely important to check passports, papers and security at airports for everyone arriving into the United States by plane, but when it comes to arriving in the United States at the southern border the administration throws up their hands!
