The Busso Violin! I love the feeling of the 2nd,3rd, 4th gear pulls. There's a resonance in the engine that you feel in your chest. Kudos to the condition of your interior. I love mine...Great car!
I love the GTV! After watching this clip, I feel like buying a ticket to Miami just to test drive it! In the early 2000's, European Car Magazine did a GTV project of putting the 3.0 Verde motor in a 1986 GTV. Along with modifying the whole car. Phenomenal. Just thought I'd mention for all the Alfisti's like me.

As a young man I always wanted a GTV but I didn't have the money and now it is extremely difficult to find an unmodified original. Really a dream car with a stunning V6.

Why would you exchange an Alfa for a fast Fiat (Ferrari) ? At least you could get go for a more respectable exotic like a Lamborghini or Maclaren even though NOTHING replaces an Alfa. Ferraris are disgusting.
We used to own a 3.0 GTV & love to see test review of this, very clever, beautiful. From the way they cleverly lower the chair height down as you adjust for taller drivers ........... to the weight distribution that improves overall balance ........... to the extra torsion bars that radically improve handling......... to the clever instrument cluster that adds an extra measure of fun when you drop the passenger seat fully back & semi recline before you do a rocket take off .......... to the clever power distribution that gives class leading acceleration in top gear over 120 km / hr ....... to ....... the list goes on & on & on. ha-ha Thanks for sharing.
What a nice survivor! It's good that GTV6 are getting some interest as that will help finance better maintenance, rebuilds, and a few restorations. I've had mine for about 28 years now. No longer near stock. No longer an everyday driver. But, still a whole lot of fun! I've got Alfa Ricambi sway bars front and rear, same for the front torsion bars and rear springs. Bilstein shocks. An adjustable F/R brake bias valve as mine had too much rear bias for some reason (original fixed unit removed). GiroDisc brakes front and rear. I used to have a Milano Verde 3.0L in it but now I have a 24-Valve from a 164 with higher compression, GTA cams, and headers (of course). Mine is a 1982 that had the very short 1st & 2nd gear, followed by a big gap to 3rd and a 3.42 R&P. I liked the tall ring and pinion gear for what I call "supercruise" (to one's fun but distant curvy roads), but now have a Milano Verde transaxle with better 1st & 2nd gear ratios, 3.55 R&P, and a freshly shimmed LSD. I currently have a thin-shelled Recaro race seat as I'm quite tall, but it's a PITA to get in and out of. So I've purchased a tired used set of those later model factory made Recaro "look" seats with the mesh head rests. Will rebuild those with the driver's side modified so I can still fit in the car. What else? More tire and wheel with 16" OZ Volanos and 215/45-15 tires. Want to go to a very light weight 16" wheel set someday as less unsprung weight and reduced rolling inertia helps everywhere. What next? Well, the car is now 37 years old and the paint is well beyond tired. I've decided I'm not a "patina" kind of guy so the car will be stripped and painted the original color (that medium Italian red with what appears to be a tinge of orange in it). A new windshield and headliner. And something that it hasn't had for years; air conditioning!!! These cars get hot in the summer what with that laid back windshield and rear hatch glass. Anyone who wants to really get inspired by a GTV6 needs to watch Davide Cironi's GTV6 video. He does a great job imparting the passion that's generated in driving these cars on fun roads. Thanks for profiling the GTV6 Gaston!

I drove one of these in the mid-80s with the owner riding shotgun. I took it up into the hills to my favorite roads. We were gone two hours. Beautiful, thrilling car. I remember gearing down to pass on a straight of two-lane rural blacktop. I was doing 100 mph before I let off the throttle. What a voice. The owner told me I drove it better than he...
I passed by a red GTV6 on a desolate road with a “for sale” sign about 10 years ago. Biggest regret was not stopping to inquire. IMHO one of the most beautiful of Alfa Romeos

Hi! This video is quite good. I like it that you seem to spend more time introducing the car. Just two thoughts: talk more about the engine and introduce the racing pedigree of the car! Best wishes from Taiwan
Wonderful car, I ran my '81 for five years. Handled like nothing else. Sounded like it was always in a race. Not close to 50/50 weight dist, it was 50/50. Correct slides with a light touch. Awesome. Add a shift kit to kill the factory play. Multi-piece Driveshaft always fragile, two-piece head gasket has to be updated to the one-piece, then all is good. Also, don't take it outside or it will rust. But why bother making a video of this fabulous car on dull-ass, straight Miami streets with equally dull commentary? Production values!!! Get excited!
Phenomenal! The main problem is that it is very difficult to get a clean rust free example. In countries using salt on the roads in winter you literally had holes in the bodies in a few years. My brother usually tells stories about cars at the dealership already showing first rust before they were even sold. Horrible. I love the styling and the sound, but would definitely put on more aggressive wheels.
Always loved the GTV6, beautiful car. Had a quiet chuckle when you showed the 2.0 Alfetta from here in NZ at 4:15. Was expecting to see one from US or Italy. Still a strong club here in NZ I believe.
Oh what a beautiful car! That Busso V6! I could see it has a lowered front height. My father had a 1983 gtv6 and it had an ugly gap between tire and fender arch. But the US version was that way due to regulations. Any way, beautiful car and my favorite Alfa
Such a cool interior! I went through a phase a few years ago when I wanted to sell my 86 Veloce for a GTV6, but they were all sun baked at the time. Ended up getting a TR6 instead. Those interiors, though...
I had a GTV-6 once. Once. Fun car. Odd looking. A hatchback but not really. I tossed the catalysts (pre-inspection days) and bolted on some aftermarket headers. That gave a raucous blaaaat sound from the exhaust. Handled really well (its an Alfa). Great 155-hp engine free revving. Parts would just fall off the car as you drove down the road. Head gaskets (recalled after I dumped the car) failed at 38K miles. Clutch gave out at 60K miles (and I dont abuse clutches).
Had an '84 in the rare Opale Metallic. Loved that car so much but let it go for money to get the next shiny object. Wish I hadn't, really miss it. Still my favorite of any car I've driven. If I can convince myself to part with an Alfa Spider that's taking up my half of the garage, I'll get another.
Yes, in "Octopussy". I love how Bond's eyes narrow as he glances at it knowingly (he's Bond; of course he knows what an Alfa Romeo GTV6 is) just after failing to coax its chatty female owner out of a phone booth, and just before he steals her car that she has left running right there. You can see the wheels turning in his head -- better to drive that Alfa to save the day in person than try and warn them over the phone from a dumb phone booth. The Busso sound track from inside the car is pretty realistic as he races to thwart the bad guy.
So, it's true, they are out there... What a beautiful example. I love the black on tan. Also like the chestnut ones. And of course the red ones. With all that sloped glass, the black interiors are too hot.

My brother owned one of these back in the 80s, I spent more time pushing it than being driven in it. Great looking car though, but then again most Alfa Romeo's are.
@@GastonRossato on the list of things i have to do before my my last breath on earth. Fickle times as they get more n more rare. And i live in a country that were lucky enough to get it in 3.0L version - fingers crossed
Bought my '85 with 43,000 miles on the odo in 2000 for $5,500. Cost about $2,000/yr. to maintain. Had it for over 5 years. Most enjoyable ownership experience ever.
Timing belt every 30k miles but easy to get to. 7 quart oil change every 3k. Main concern is driveshaft couplers can go bad every 50k miles and shaft needs to be balanced property which few can do. Other than that everything else holds up pretty well.
In 1990, the choice for me was this 1986 Alfa Romeo GTV6 or a 1989 BMW 325I. I went for the BMW, but I think they were pretty close on performance with the GTV6 requiring more servicing, but Alfa definitely look much more aggressive and most likely feel a little sharper to drive as well.
The Clarkson car had wheels from the Alfa ES30 (nick named il Mostro - the Monster). Based on the GTV6 platform with uprated power from a modded ecu. So they were Alfa factory wheels.

Not the prettiest, but original!
I love this car. Where would you even buy one now? Only ones I find on google are junkers I'd get one tomorrow if I could.
This one was a keeper! It went to a good home. They are still out there!
@@GastonRossato if you get one for sale let me know cause I can't find any in decent shape in North America
Best sound V6 the Busso wow
Absolutly love this car! Would't want to maintain it tho ^^
Not as bad as you might think
Good condition ones of these are pushing $50,000 these days. Crazy, but makes sense. Giugiaro design, racing pedigree and Busso engine.
Makes total sense. I wish we would have kept it
They only made about 20,000 gtv6s. Very few actually left. Racing pedigree. That's why they re going up in value.
This is true
i had one 1984 charcoal grey with tan leather interior the most beautiful car the ride the drive monza exhaust had it for 5 years and i crash fucked up the aluminun v6 engine an orchestra plying all instrument at once beautiful lines smell great memories
that engine at full trottle rooooor like nothing else a lyon
If you think this car has more than 30 years the aria condizionata back then was a luxury to have in the car so good job alfa romeo
Haha true
Frontbumper is wrong. The right ones has the indicator should be integrated in the bumper. I had 2 GTV 6s one 1983 and one 1987 ;-)
I believe there was different variations. Would have to look into it
Simply: yes

Edit: where you located? I wanna drive it!
Thank you! We’re in Miami, FL
would it be nuts to have a '85 GTV6 as an everyday driver?
GTV-6 is one of the best driving cars ever. Bargain.
Truly. You really have to drive one to understand.
I live in Canada. How do I get a hold of a decently restored GTV6 3.0?
Keep an eye on our website!
My Dad had the 2.0 Alfetta back in the 80s and he loved that thing ( me less so , cos I was in the back! ) I'd dearly love to own a GTV6 , but I think you guys ( and Clarkson ) might be pushing the price up a bit. Well as long as they all get owners that love them.
That's awesome. Thanks so much for sharing...and the complement haha (Clarkson status)
My brother owned one of these back in the 80s, I spent more time pushing it than being driven in it. Great looking car though, but then again most Alfa Romeo's are.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing
Maybe needed to get gas... if you keep it well it has no problems at all
I bought this EXACT CAR a year AGO!!
Is this in the market?
not my style, but I wont dislike this vid, because in the end, my perception is subjective
Did it finally sell?
Yes the car sold
@@GastonRossato what did you guys get ;) Im nosey - lol - and an Alfa owner

Grazie!
AMENNN !!! ! !!! Just put the Turbine onto it , to make it Perfect !!! ! !!! :-)
Indeed!💪
I have a 1985 12,000 original miles....interested?
Yes, please email me info. Gaston@thebarnmiami.com
Thank you!
I’d love to have one, I think the cost of ownership would hurt waaaay to much...
Bought my '85 with 43,000 miles on the odo in 2000 for $5,500. Cost about $2,000/yr. to maintain. Had it for over 5 years. Most enjoyable ownership experience ever.
Not as bad as one might think
Timing belt every 30k miles but easy to get to. 7 quart oil change every 3k. Main concern is driveshaft couplers can go bad every 50k miles and shaft needs to be balanced property which few can do. Other than that everything else holds up pretty well.
It absolutely is !
But make shure you got another 20K saved for welding , spraying , repairs , overhauls .......
I know , I had one in the 80s !
this car in this spec in EU would be worth anywhere around 35-40k EUR minimum, unless it has any hidden issues.
What the DeLorean could only aspire to be
💪
J ADORE❤❤
Thank you
Those recaro seats were optional btw.
They were actually standard in the USA 84-86 gtv6. Cloth or leather.
Correct
In sweden they where standard to. The only option was if You wanted leather trim.
The only thing missing is you guys going to Frankies pizza on Bird rd.
Haha!! Maybe a future episode...stay tuned
Ha that’s awesome. I think the GTV6 better looking too
The Alfa Romeo of that age require the RIGHT manutention, not more manutention. The mechanics are extremely robust
So the one Clarkson drove had aftermarket rims? They made it look good.
I don’t remember his wheels. But I’m pretty sure they were factory too
The Clarkson car had wheels from the Alfa ES30 (nick named il Mostro - the Monster). Based on the GTV6 platform with uprated power from a modded ecu. So they were Alfa factory wheels.
Owned lot of great cars over the years, but this GTV6 is my keeper, since new in 1986: facebook.com/1986AlfaRomeoGTV6/
