Featherstone’s backstory is much sadder than the actual film itself. His owners unexpectedly separate, his own flamingo girlfriend gets taken away from him and finds himself locked in the garden shed with nothing but watch his old home slowly fall in ruins for many many years, how heartbreaking 💔
But the best thing was that Featherstone and his Flamingo Girlfriend would reunite at the end. 🩷

I felt sorry for Featherstone.
This scene is literally a depiction of one of my biggest fears... I burst into tears every time. (the people part)
I own this movie since this is one of my daughters favorite. When I watch this scene it was so hard not to cry and I still do when I see this part of the movie. I think most people can relate to this song if you had love and lost it Especially in a divorce with kids. It's sad how you can be in-love and make dream together then it turns to anger & hate:( Sad for the kids even more. The song really makes you think & sometimes there is NOTHING you can do to stop it!

Elton is amazing i love his voice and this song is amazing. I feel bad for the flamingo but i love this scene. Shows what Shakespeare was talking about. Love killed the lovebirds because sometimes people act stupid and fighting destroys and it hurts when you can't do anything to help.

My sister asked me in animal crossing “should I put a small garden in the middle of the town or a orchard “ I said garden. She said “ok I put a garden there” than I said “ it takes looove to build a garden”(referencing this movie/song) and she sent me this video.
I watched this movie on one of the flat screen tv's at Sam's Club when I was like 11. When it got to this scene, I flat out bawled like a baby in the middle of the store in front of god and everyone. It's still an inside joke with my family till this day.
Featherstone once lived in the garden of a house that belonged to a loving couple, in which he was similarly in love with a female pink flamingo as well. However, their owners would begin going through marital problems, causing them to divorce and move out of the house, with each of them taking a flamingo. Featherstone was eventually locked in a tool shed, alone and separated from the love of his life.
He’s actually abandoned by his owner, he also moved out too right here you see his trailer and car 1:50

I can't believe that Elton put his whole into a song only to be put there as the comic relief's backstory. In a movie about two families of gnomes.

Featherstone is so cute. It broke my heart to see him carelessly tossed in the tool shed like a piece of junk. But I'm so glad things turned out well for him in the end. :')

I have a theory that the couple in this later became the feuding owners of the red/blue houses. Granted, the couple doesn't wear red and blue here, but one could argue they went for opposite colors as they got older out of spite.

I agree, but, when you break up and still live in a big house that you remember the place that your heart was shattered in, I get that everyone would still live there but, getting that feeling, you would have that thought to pack away and move.
The thing is you can't predict the future all you can do make the decisions you can in the present.
