An update..The guy on the Tesla Customer Support line said that either the billing team or himself would call back and that hasn't happened yet, 5 days later. However, following a suggestion in the comments, I've managed to scan the QR code from the video and now have the receipt.

    • @Mandalore313

Interesting. It seems the most fireproof way of getting a receipt for non teslas at the moment is to take a video, as you'll have all the time in the world to scan it after. They should probably only make the receipt QR code go away once you've put the cable back in place (provided they have a sensor to acknowledge that).

… what good luck that you got the QR code from the video! I wonder if you had to do some image processing. As for weather, TESLA employees will do what they say they’ll do, in my experience, the answer is yes - mostly. For example, I had to wait three months for a promised refund check, here in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.

Regarding the ioniq 5. Previously eGMP cars could not charge on V3 cabinets at all. Since a software update they can now charge at 50 kw. Hyundai has said they have a software update out that allows them to charge to 100 kw but no one has seen the results of that yet. It has to do with eGMP cars use 800 v architecture and V3 cabinets are 400 v. EGMP cars have to use the rear motor to step up the voltage but currently that’s limited to 50 kw minus losses. This won’t be a problem with V4 cabinets that are 1000 v but again no actual V4 cabinets have been installed. Only V4 dispensers on 400 v V3 cabinets

That the Ioniq 5/6, Kia EV6/9 charge so slow is a software bug on the cars side.
They charge quickly on SuC V2, but not on V3s and this one is basically a V3 just with the new stalls. The Superchargers can only output 500V, but those cars need 750V for charging, so they internally need to increase the voltage. Somehow they think that the charger only outputs 100A exactly and then they simply don't ask for more.

You could say that the Tesla charger design was ratified in 2012 and everyone knew the spec.
If others had thought they may end up using the Tesla system it may have been an idea to make the cars which they were designing from.... 2015 onwards? compatible with that existing network?
Especially as the offer to use the network was there from Tesla?

Companies have their reasons to go to higher voltages (charging at more than 300 kW while handling the cable by one person) and Tesla have their reasons to wait until this year. (The Cybertruck is the first product that has practical use for it. The Semi is on a different level.) It is just one of the messy parts of the weird world of fast charging. Which makes me wonder if the Cybertruck will charge slowly because of low voltage Superchargers in the beginning.

Fast charging with the battery far from ideal temperature will cause degradation, so good temperature control is very important. An extreme example is of course Nissan Leaf in hot climates. Speculations: A low rated charger may have limitations on the cables used. They may be limited to a certain number of amperes, but if you were at a higher battery voltage, you would get 50 kW. That could result in a charge rate slightly below 50 kW but creeping up as you charge until you hit other limits. At a 350 kW max charger you will not be near any such limits, and your car will be the limiting factor.

The reason that the new V4 chargers have cars readers is to qualify for the new US Grant of $Bns for their installation in the USA as the requirement is they must have card reading ability, as in the EU their ruling is similar but not to qualify for grants, just new laws, stating new units must have card readers and given an amount of time to add them to older units. Some older V2 and V3 units now getting a stand alone card reader in order to meet this requirement. We in the UK and EU are being used to trial these V4’s because we are way ahead of the US on opening up Superchargers and also many more EV variants. Speaking of hogging charging bays, here's my experience (it's quite a long story, but you'll see my point at the end). I was at a Pod Point rapid charger yesterday in a Lidl supermarket. This location only has 1 rapid charger that can do either CHAdeMO or CCS and 3-phase AC at the same time. It cannot do dual DC charging. I arrived to find a 2nd gen. Nissan Leaf already using the CHAdeMO so I planned to use the 22kW AC as I have a Zoe which can charge at that speed. However, I have visited this charger on a few occasions and apart from maybe once or twice when it was new, it point blank refuses to initiate and start a charge on my Zoe. I've never have any issues elsewhere with single or 3-phase AC charging. Nevertheless, I connected and hoped it would work this time. It didn't. With no other option I disconnected and waited for DC power to become available (there were no other EVs waiting or nearby). Out of curiosity I checked the screen for CHAdeMO and noticed the Leaf was at 97% drawing just 3kW. The timer showed he had been connected for almost 1.5 hours and did not seem the least bit bothered that it's pointless staying on a rapid charger when the state of charge is over 85-90%. If he really wanted to leave with 100% he could have disconnected and reconnected to AC which would have had the same 3kW speed. As I sat there for a more few minutes waiting to use the CCS, I noticed the driver leave his vehicle to go in to the supermarket (with his Leaf now at 98%). After another 15 or so minutes he returned and finally disconnected. It just goes to show a lack of awareness over charging speeds at high states of charge. I did send a complaint to Pod Point about the 3-phase AC not working on my Zoe, and also suggested their rapid charger needs updating to allow dual DC charging, a second rapid charger or perhaps some 7kW AC destination charge posts. As demand for EVs is only going to increase, I think we are going to see this sort of situation getting ever more common.
TL;DR: EV drivers need educating to not hog rapid charging bays when at very high states of charge.

    • @GoGreenAutos
      @GoGreenAutos  Год назад +4

Yes it does annoy me that many drivers don't understand charging and seem to also think they must charge 100% whether they need it or not. If all networks did something similar, it would help everyone and free up capacity.

I have had a discussion with someone once telling me I should disconnect at 80% or so. Yet, as I told that person, no one else but me knows how much I need to charge for the journey I am doing. Turns out, at that time I had planned my trip so that a full charge was required at that particular stop (full being 94% on my Ioniq 28kWh). So while I agree that some people may be pointlessly charging at full for no real reason, sometimes people do need to charge to full. I personally tend to leave a note on my windscreen to let people know. But now, better than that: I tend to charge fully on AC destination 7-22kW charge points (which should be ubiquitous in my opinion) and I purposely only rapid charge at places and services that have at least 5-6 chargers (meaning at least 10-12 CCS connectors). Haven’t come across with any queue on those just yet. 😊

It's almost the same in Germany. Ionity takes 0,79€/kWh. That's about three times what you pay for your home electricity. The lowest price at Tesla I've seen so far was 0,45€. I wish I had known that one year ago when I got my car.

Would really p me off as a Tesla driver to turn up at these new chargers and still see non teslas parked blocking 2 bays. How stupid do you need to be to not figure out how to park correctly 🤔😤
It’s bad enough when I arrive at the other Tesla sites and can’t charge because of being blocked by a non Tesla blocking 2 bays, but to have it happen at the new ones is ridiculous

You shouldn't call these people stupid. Tesla just doesn't make it easy for them. They could put the charger in the middle of the bay like Ionity does.

I have only once been blocked by a car at a Tesla charger, and it was a Tesla Model Y doing the blocking by taking up 3 stalls with his camper trailer.

The only new Tesla I would buy is a Cybertruck. But as that's likely to never come to the UK market, I'll have to stick with my 2014 Tesla Model S....but that is still in the bodyshop (see ruclips.net/video/GY4jxN8hUfs/видео.htmlsi=B-mkja3mhZnVyL-A)

Scrunching notes and dropping coins into a charger of any kind is both impractical and unnecessary.
Anybody with an EV who does not have a contactless card is charging at home only.

Apparently other non-Teslas got free charging too, but when using the app. It seems just the contactless payment transactions weren't free. Not surprising really seeing these had only just gone live and are the first ones in the world.
