    I'm 6'1'' and I found it to be the best out of every motorcycle I have ever ridden or owned out of the box with the standing position of the handlebars. But your right on the first gear I do believe when in lose tracks, that is why I went to a 16 teeth front sprocket on my Tuareg 660.

    • @SocalOffroadSchool
      @SocalOffroadSchool  Год назад +2

      Glad you like the bike! For me it’s a minor issue with the bars. Like I said in the video, playing around with the handlebar position or trying a different bar bent would easily solve that. Good idea going to a 16 teeth front sprocket 👍🏻

      Isn't the extra torque a good thing when riding offroad?

    • @SocalOffroadSchool
      @SocalOffroadSchool  Год назад +2

      @@SuperCheesyMan Yes, as long as it's usable. Too much torque will give you a lot of wheel spin. In 2nd and 3rd gear the torque was very usable on the Tuareg.

    • @SuperCheesyMan
      @SuperCheesyMan Год назад +2

      @@SocalOffroadSchool coming from a crf250l, the low gear torque of the Tuareg surprised me for sure offroad. I always find myself taking off in 2nd or 3rd gear depending of the terrain so my rear wheel doesn't spin too much.
      In what cases the first gear would be handy to use? Log jumps ?

    It's a trail-bike, not a MX bike. I much prefer the high-bar position for comfortable trail cruising while standing practically straight up, rather than the lower bar on something like a KTM 690 that forces you into an attack position. Sure, low bar is better for control but you get tired of it really fast.

    Coming from a KTM790 with 1 inch risers, I also found the bars in the Aprilia to be too far forward and high. I’m sure that can be addressed.

    • @SocalOffroadSchool
      @SocalOffroadSchool  Год назад

      How talk are you? Its an easy fix, just need to take the time to try a couple different handlebar bents and positions. Our shorter riders didn’t mind the bar position as much which was interesting.

      I’m 5’8” with a 32” inseam. I am accustomed to riding dirt bikes. The KTM 790/890 seating position and distance to bars is closer to what I’m accustomed to than with the Tuareg. With the Aprilia it feels like I’m sitting in the motorcycle not on it. I’m sure I could get accustomed to that bike over time. These are just my initial impressions.

    What about fast paced riding, how was the suspension, do you think once luggage is added does the suspension need upgraded

    • @SocalOffroadSchool
      @SocalOffroadSchool  Год назад +1

      It felt very stable in faster sections. Suspension upgrades will depend on rider weight, the terrain you ride the most and how much luggage you are planning on packing on a regular basis. The standard set up has enough room to go stiffer and accommodate a heavier load but if you are planning to load it up with heavy panels most of the time it's probably worth looking into getting it properly set up for that.

      @@SocalOffroadSchool
      Perfect. You are reading my mind. I've been wanting a tenere but then you and others are singing the praises of this bike so I'm having second thoughts. I know it's hard to come out hard in favor of one or the other without alienating some potential audience so all people will say is stuff like if you like the help from the electronics then pay a little more and if reliability is your top priority then this other one is probably your best bet. One's better for taller riders and one's better for shorter riders. Well, I could have told anybody that already without having seen either bike. What I'm interested in learning is which bike feels the best to ride. On which bike can you tear up the most trail the fastest and most accurately and predictably. Which one better becomes one with your body in order to conquer the terrain. Those are some tough questions but I do believe they could be answered in such a way as to not make the claim that one bike is superior to the other overall.
      For me reliability is a concern, but enjoying the bike is really my top priority. I don't want to feel like I have to ride a bike because I bought it. I want a bike that beckons me to ride it for the sheer thrill of it. And I don't want to buy a bike now that leaves me wishing I had bought a different bike not long after, that would suck. If I could just go to dealerships and test ride these bikes then I wouldn't even be talking about it. I'd have one. But oddly we're still in a situation where you have to order these bikes put down a deposit and decide without ever having seen one much less get to test ride one. And that kind of rubs me the wrong way.
      Thanks for the reply, Cheers!

      @@elgringoec you will like our comparison of the two bikes in the video tomorrow. What is your riding background? If you are used to riding off road motorcycles (Enduro or Motocross) then you will like the Tenere. If you have a street riding background the Tuareg will suit you more because it has that “sitting in the bike” feeling. Definitely tricky making a purchase decision without being able to get to ride one beforehand. I don’t think you would regret either purchase though. Let me know what you think after the comparison in our video tomorrow, hopefully it can give you a better idea of the strong points of the two bikes.

      Thank you so much! I will comment there after watching. My background, started as a young kid, rode trails every day for thousands of hours before old enough to get a licence. Have motorcycle operators license fifty years. I have a ktm300 for dirt riding I made street legal, and a vf1100s Honda Street bike to conquer the hilly twisty asphalt.
      I'd like to take my wife on trips to places like Moab, passes in Colorado, Baja California, and mainland Mexico. That would require comfortable enough street travel and good dirt capability.
      Cheers!
