    Would be cool if we could get some longer roads connected to these places. Like a road connecting a mining facility, a vehicle garage, a satellite dish, a warehouse, there are all kinds of things that'd make sense to place some ways away from the distribution center. But the point is it'd be really fun to be able to drive on a big stretch of flat road, and it seems like 10-20km should be doable without having to bring in river tech or something. We have racetracks, but we don't have any actual long roads connecting A to B. They'd be fun.

I'd honestly be surprised if we didn't get it by the end of 2024 with 2025 being the absolute latest I see a release for it. Alpha 4.0 for SC is likely to come in that same timeframe. I truly believe once we get 4.0 the road to Beta won't be nearly as long as you think because all of the core tech will have been implemented and from there it's just getting the game feature complete.

    So they have everything they need for Base building:
    1. They demoed the holo-maps, which will also generate blueprints on the land claim area.
    2. They can simply link those holo-maps to a blueprint file we can find or buy.
    3. They have the Rastar tool which they need to make player-facing.
    4. They already have shield tech, and anti-air/ ground turrets, so they only need to make it player-ownable.
    5. They already have dumb AI which we could hire to secure the base as well, hopefully, they will be smart by that time.
    6. They already segmented the planets into zones, so claiming an area will simply assign it to your profile in the database. That database should be many to one.
    7. They will have to figure out cross-shard owning of land or put an indestructible version of a player's base from one zone to not be damaged by another zone. eg. Asia claims D1 but NA cannot claim D1 or destroy it, but only see it. Or they simply make every zone unique for example, Asia-D1, Aus-D1, and NA-D1. I would prefer the latter, for if one zone finds all the best resources that will be a win already. So separation of the zones is a must. This would mean players will have to be locked to zones, and not like the way we do now, jumping from region to region.

      I see no reason why they wouldn't still be planning both. There's so much _stuff_ going into this project, and they can't do everything at once.
      I mean, they spent like half an hour just explaining all the work they've done on the characters' hair. Half an hour. For hair.
      They'll get to it eventually. Stands to reason that hangars were prioritised earlier than habs, though, since they're already such a central part of gameplay as it is.

    With base building, I just hope the number of players choosing rogue roles won’t overwhelm the game. It would really suck to constantly having to heavily guard and secure a base only because you don’t choose the highest tier.

    • @dhabu9017
      @dhabu9017 9 месяцев назад +3

      It's more about location; the security areas will be defined (as I understood it) by the system they're in and/or the planet they're on. Given how much space there is to go around, it sounds like everyone can choose at least the planet they want (and therefore the safety/security level they want), although I'm sure the choicest locations will have some competition.

    General question for anyone who's been following this stuff for awhile: Have they said anything about intentions for more rpg style progression, skill growth and that sort of thing? Or is it all intended to be 100% equipment and player skill rather than character skill? The discussion on raids made me think about needing to hack open doors and the like, which is something that I'd imagine is a bit more of a specialist skill set, as an example.

    • @SnowyFoxFox

    They do need to make sure the cargo moving doesn't get too tedious. The system concept is fine, moving 100s of boxes by hand as a time sink is kind of not. The cargo moving thing they showed needs to be the norm not the exception. And whatever system that tracks quests and deliveries needs to be polished and on point to always be ahead of you and just HIGHLIGHT the dang box you need. Unless I'm in a mission hunting for a needle in a haystack where that is the intended mechanic please don't make me scan two dozen or more boxes in my own ship to find one box for a delivery.

      I'm pretty sure NPC-owned distribution centres and player-owned outposts will be very different things. Though it would be cool if players and orgs could place mission boards and trade kiosks in their bases, to delegate resource gathering to outside contractors.

      I mean, you are not "wrong" per se. However. you can actually PLAY Starfield today. and build outposts in game today, etc etc etc.... Which, lets be honest here. this outpost stuff in SC has about a 30% chance of every actually becoming a real feature. 20% chance of being partially implemented with all the "sounds too good to be true" bits stripped out, and a 50% chance of evaporating into nothing and CIG hoping that everyone will forget about it when they have their next big fake unrealistic new feature showcase with something thats even more unlikely (due to technical limitations)

  • @UnexpectedInquisition

    Cargo looks super time consuming and annoying unless NPC can help with this later. In general...we really need NPC crew for most of SC to 'work'. Sell us indentured servant contracts or crew contracts of some sort, with bundles of crew :P Or a contract with a talent firm that sends us crew to fill certain roles. Whatever. Happy to spend money for it but we need npc crew to be a "thing" or most of SC will never work.

      I'm a little concerned about this; what I'm hoping is that NPCs will be able to do it at an ok-average speed for you, but players, if skilled/coordinated, could/can do it faster to save time.

    • @UnexpectedInquisition
      @UnexpectedInquisition 9 месяцев назад

      Agree and hope so too. But for general tasks like this and for larger ships in general, NPC crew seem 100% needed for the game to function as intended. @@dhabu9017

    • @SnowyFoxFox
      @SnowyFoxFox 9 месяцев назад

      I'm pretty sure the idea is to hire players. I'd be happy to do mundane tasks like this for paying captains. We can already see systems for this in place with things like transport requests and rescue beacons.

    • @UnexpectedInquisition
      @UnexpectedInquisition 9 месяцев назад

      If that turns out true, I hope I can get my money back. There are very very very few people who will want to be someone else's crew and spend hours on end manning a station on a Hull-E or something, watching paint dry. And getting people who have the same online playtime and availability as you irl. willing to do it...good luck. I think in occasional PVP situations and very small groups of friends, we would use npc crew to fill out turret and other roles on the ship. If CIG does not implement that, I can not imagine this game working. @@SnowyFoxFox

    Base Building - gee, just got through talking about Cargo management, hangars and lifts, and inventory. Then they go on to base building of your hab, outpost, or whatever. Notice that the former was not mentioned with the latter. So what, we're going to have our outposts, structures, production, refining, fabrication, and etc. on our land parcel, but not our hangars, ships, and inventory? Why did the vaporware demo of something not yet even started, way, way off on the horizon of development, not demonstrate a connection between our land parcel constructs and the preceding demo of hangars, cargo, and inventory? Gee, my hangar, ships, and cargo/inventory sure would make sense to show some conceptual connection to my parcel in the demo. He says, we're going to show you how many things come together... well, not those major dimensions apparently. Why? Vapor to sell ships.
    I came to watch these videos after some disassociation with the game, hoping to see something had changed. So far, multiple 2953 videos, all I see are vapor demos and moving goal posts again, salesmanship of vapor and ideas, quote, "what we have in mind" instead of "what we're well in progress to deliver"; no tangible progress, no tangible gameplay without proof of concept that it will all miraculously "come together to be enjoyable with the mere mortal hours of RL we have to log in to play a game someday".
    The continual moving of goal posts, the "what we're doing now" (or thinking about now) instead of previous "what we're doing now" we were told previously, and prior to that, and prior to that... it all sounds good on the moment, until you realize they keep changing the scorecard, the plan document, and the prior systems over, and over, and over, and over, and over. But keep those ship sales coming. They take people for fools.

    I wonder if one can actually SIDE with the UEE(N).
    Just asking, because I plan to RP a loyal (former) UEEN officer. Why should I raid UEEN property? ;-)
    The only thing I'm slightly concerned is base building. I think some automation should be implemented, since I can't visit my outpost every single day. Maybe there's weeks between a visit due a job on the other side of the known space. Maybe I'm occupied with exploration for a while. So what if I'm not there? Can I hire personell to do some of the more mundane jobs? For instance, if I can't visit every now and then, I'd like to hire a manager and a small crew. Of course, they need to be paid. Also security detail needs payment. I'm happy with that. If my small outpost is generating a small profit, it'll be good enough, even if it's just 20k a day or something. It's great for a passive income, at least compared to the more risky jobs. We'll see.
