The longer the better man, I love when people just go on and on about there whole history. I feel like nothing else in skating goes into so much detail
This episode is absolutely in the hall of fame of documenting so much culture beyond just skateboarding. It's up there with Huff, Mike V, Spike Lee, Andy Howell, Rick Kosick, and so many others. Even if you're only asking 3 questions and letting the host go off digging through their memories, the atmosphere and platform you provide that lets them feel comfortable enough to do so is a really fantastic way to capture history from a first-person telling that otherwise just isn't possible. Really great work
Hands down my favorite interview yet. Could have watched a 7 hour version for sure! Super interesting stories and great story teller. Add that to a major love for Zoo York growing up skating and running our family owned skateshop, watching the vhs with all the homies day after day.
Eli is a great story teller and this episode was one of my favorites to date. Growing up on the east coast I loved hearing all the names he dropped. Well done!
this interview/ chat is incredible to me. . .i Am just a little bit younger than the time he is completely involved in. However; i was there in the background worshipping everything these guys did back then. . lol I remember being around 15 or 16 (around 1992-1993) and we just started driving from Pittsburgh(my hometown) to Philly and New York And I really looked up to All these guys. I kind of got the closest to Matty Reason(RIP) one summer
i can imagine. . i was a pittsburgh guy. . but we made the drive too many times to count. then in the mid/late 90s. i started Djing a bunch in NYC, and it was skate --->Dj---->party----> drive home , rest for 2 days, then drive----> skate-----> dj ------> party -------> repeat Oh damn, were those great times peace, eric the Eturn
As a born & bred NewYorker and skater. This episode really hit man. Good stuff guys. Keep the content up. Its been amazing binging all these episodes everyday while I hack away at code during my day job.
Remember when Robert Downey Jr and McLovin had a baby? Here he is. Seriously though, great episode as always, loving the guests back in the studio and hearing from new interviewees!
bring a new yorker this might be the best episode of the nine club. by far one of the best interviews. Had no idea who this guy was starting the episode but now i know who drew the symbol that I saw most skating in New York! so dope.
Never in my life have I felt so connected to something so me. 1. I write grafitti. 2. I skate. 3 . I Rap. Have done all these things since I was 13. I'm 43 now. I have to meet Eli one day. We would have so much to talk about.
I could listen to this guy's stories for days. I love this time period of subculture bubbling up to the point that set all the dope shit off in the early through late 90's... I remember those days vividly through rose colored glasses for sure. Awesome episode!!! Thanks for making, yet another ill one guys.
Much different than most 9 club guest/episodes. like normal you guys killed it. History on his brands I normally wouldn’t care about are fascinating once he got going. I loved it. It was clear he is talking over some of your heads a younger generation might not have enjoyed it as much as I did. It funny he doesn’t name drop as much as you know he could. I have lots of friends that don’t skate that will love this one. I am going to share this episode with a couple friends and open the 9 club to a different circle of fans. Keep up the killer content.
This was an awesome episode, the behind the scenes guys (Eli does have some sick photos of him skating fwiw, particularly fond of a pop shuv shot) really do tend to be among the best.
WOW! Had to watch this one in 3-4 parts, and couldn’t wait to get back to it. Eli reminds me so much of a younger Colbert too, even his voice? Looking forward to seeing the doc! Great episode guys!
Yooooo!!!!! I’ve been wanting this for so long!!!! Eli seems like such a fucking rad dude and his history in skateboarding is incredible. Would never have been a Zoo York without this man! And I’m talking to good Zoo days. The days when Zoo was the fucking shit. Hell fucking yes!!! Awesome job Crob, Rog, Jeron, and Kelly!! Maybe some older New York skaters for the next few guys? Would fucking LOOOVE if you guys could get Quim on here
Not sure what I was getting into with this episode but it has to be one of my favorite guests you've had. Great story teller from an Era and area that was so epic.
W t f!!!!??? I had no idea. Dayum! This movie sounds insane. I'm a big fan of all nine clubs I've watched but this is a different animal entirely. Cheers y'all
This movie IS insane. Just got back from premier but let's be real: this nine club episode and the stories are better than the movie. Put a tiny tiny bit of the movie interviews and all of Eli's old footage , then you have the proper story.
1st of all. I love the Nine Club. Seen just about every episode. Thanks for having Eli! Can’t wait to watch the doc. But, Chris & crew have absolutely no knowledge about music, fashion, art, dang “Culture!!!” At times it’s a blessing. Other times it falls a bit short. The dialogue would be so much more in-depth and loose. Even raw ass Neck Face had you guys stumped. God bless you guys. Now I got to look into Tony Converse. Haha. Love you guys!
Dude, my thoughts exactly! No disrespect to Chris and the guys but there were so many questions I've wanted to ask Eli as I've watched this. The east coast was blowing the fuck up hip hop wise in this era and the whole Club Kids thing I'd have loved to have heard him go more in depth about. That whole scene was fucking bananas! Irrespective, kudos for having this episode even made. Smashes it out the park to say the least :) Gassed to check the documentary out. I'm sure it's gonna slay!
Great interveiw with Eli I was fortunate to be staying and skating out in New York right after Mixtape came out and Wu-Tang Forever dropped the day I took a flight back home. A magical time indeed.... Side Note: I'm always so stunned when you guys dont know Skip, A.C. aka Tony, Ian Frahm etc but then I'm in my early 50's. Our history's movers and shakers needs to be more documented: even a few years back gets lost. Example: I self admittidly dont know a lot about the 70's guys. Unfortunately, each era seems to be only handed down by those who lived them. People like Andy Anderson who even as a youngster draws from skateboarding short but rich history will hopefully inspire others to do the same & with the internet etc, its better kept track of. Have a great day everybody!
What Eli said at 19:21:29 onwards rang so true, I absolutely hated math and science because I loved drawing, and yet even all the way to university I was forced to try and get a good grade in math. They gave up in the end when I didn't turn up for the exams and when forced to sit the exam I just drew all over the exam paper. They gave up. lol
I skated in a contest in New York in 86 It was a indoor very ramp with a jump ramp and wall ride ramp. They had a cool scene at the time but it was a lot smaller than it was in California. The guys I skated with guys from Jobless which was a brand out there.
@@jakejerald I've tried to find old stuff from them. Since it was way before the internet, there is not any information available about that brand or photos. I was also curious who the riders were back then. It might have been more of a vert team back then. They were impressed by my bag of streets tricks which were the standard tricks we were doing in California at the time.
Hands down one of the best episodes ever done. Period.
yeah, Eli is an OG. . awesome interview
The one I've been waiting for!!!!!
Was gonna skip bevause ive never heard the name, but very glad I started because I couldn't stop haha
@@truhhhhhhhokIII3 I always find the ones who I don't know the names of end up being my favorite episodes
I concur. Definitely one of my all-time favorites.

Damn! I gotta find that Spike Lee episode! J/K man, I know you meant Spike Jonze. 😂✌🏻
@@rumpledxkn lmfao yes typo
Thoroughly agree...let these memories spill out of this guy's head was the good move.
Me before clicking: “4 hours?!”
Me 30 minutes in: “makes sense”
Hands down my favorite interview yet. Could have watched a 7 hour version for sure! Super interesting stories and great story teller. Add that to a major love for Zoo York growing up skating and running our family owned skateshop, watching the vhs with all the homies day after day.
816?
Hip hop is all about story telling and Eli is a storyteller. Love it.
Eli is a great story teller and this episode was one of my favorites to date. Growing up on the east coast I loved hearing all the names he dropped. Well done!
Easiest interview ever. I don’t think crob said more than 10 words. Eli is a great story teller.
With some great stories...

Great to hear from Eli. This guy is a phenomenal story teller, and a storehouse of knowledge. NYC represent!!!
I could listen to stories of old NYC all day! Have Eli back for more stories! NO Body beats the BIZ!!! so sick!
"Say no more Fam!" What a DOPE interview! Eli, you are a genius!
As someone who grew up skating in NYC, this episode was fantastic
i can imagine. . i was a pittsburgh guy. . but we made the drive too many times to count. then in the mid/late 90s. i started Djing a bunch in NYC, and it was skate --->Dj---->party----> drive home , rest for 2 days, then drive----> skate-----> dj ------> party -------> repeat

I was just thinking that!
Lol I was thinking mclovin as well
I have the utmost respect for Eli. He shaped a part of NYC street culture and he puts knowledge first. A true pioneer.
This episode was so entertaining. I was so into the stories he was telling that I felt like I was there !! Wild stories man !!

I LOVE HOW ALL HIS STORIES HAD SO MUCH CLEAR DETAIL😩‼️…… MIKE V STYLE STORIES. GREAT GUEST. HE NEEDS TO BE IN THE GREEN ROOM FOR SURE.
Never in my life have I felt so connected to something so me.

Not an episode I would normally watch but very interesting stories of culture that's very foreign to me. Eli sounds like a true OG.
Much different than most 9 club guest/episodes. like normal you guys killed it. History on his brands I normally wouldn’t care about are fascinating once he got going. I loved it. Saw the premiere in Okc last weekend. It was awesome and brought me back to my childhood. So many things I learned from it, great work!

This is the episode with the fly being flicked!
I can’t believe he did that
Yeah, that blew my mind! 😂 I remember Kelly bringing it up on a previous episode
Man that’s what I was thinking also!
Can a brotha get a time stamp
@@liftedviewz it’s about 3 min into the episode
this is what skateboarding needed to hear.. back story of ZOO York

First episode I listened to and didn’t need to watch. He was so descriptive with his stories.

Best episode til this day. Beautiful!
Impeccable timing just came home from the movie, Nine Club on point with it
ZOO YOK MIXTAPE ONE OF MY FAVORITE VIDEOS THANK YOU ELLI.
This is really great story telling. And I don't want it to end.
Subway art was epic. This guy is such a hip hop head and a skater. I dig it!!! Zoo York was epic. Mixtape was epic!
I'm not surprised this guy can talk about him self for 3 plus hours. I'm surprised it wasn't a full 12 hour episode of him talking.
Great episode! I was entertained from star to finish such good stories!
Saved. Best. Needed this insight. 15 year old me is nerding out
One of the best episodes hands down.
Eli: Thankfully nobody got hurt!....Actually some of them did get hurt...
