love the explanation of how "up" doesn't have to be too ornate or complicated, as long as there is that put-together, elevated styling. as a dramatic classic I look terrible in super ornate, crazy outfits, but I'm definitely not in the "casual" half.
Absolutely! If you have a very moderate and balanced shape it doesn't take a lot to achieve some drama/effort/mystery. It could be a distressed leather jacket with some embossed/embroidered boots, it could be a tailored shirt with a surprising plunge neckline, a trench coat with a rough un-done hem and embroidery, it can be eight thin rings with tiny stones in them... the possibilities are endless
My mom gave me a book called Eccentric Glamour by Simon Doonan several years ago. She gets me, haha. He's a hilarious writer. I see now it's kind of a left/up guidebook. But it's a fun read for anyone who is into style/fashion.
Yess, left-up, this is home! I am so excited to embrace this bolder style that suits me and not to give life to the idea that I'm "doing too much." Especially loved the discussion about giving yourself permission to take up space. Thank you for this!
Love the video! I’ve never felt that any description has captured my style quite like this one. I always feel overdressed and try to restrain myself but I just wish the world would dress up a bit more haha. I will try to dress up more, and embrace standing out
As a fellow Left Up person, my friends actually thank me for always knowing I’ll dress up and use it as an excuse for them to be a little more “extra”. So definitely embrace it :) people appreciate it
I already said it in another comment, but I once was described as 'borderline overdressed' - while I do have some body image issues and therefore struggle with people commenting on my appearance, THIS I took as a straight up compliment ;-)
As someone who has paid her dues in fashion-based discomfort, I just wanna be comfortable all the time now-I honestly don’t care whether I ever dress up formally again, since I don’t recall ever having a great time when I was wearing something that I was afraid to soil. I’m not a messy eater, but it’s nice when I don’t have to hold back while I’m eating, simply because I don’t want to splash or spill anything on my outfit. My goal is to always look put together, yet still be as comfy as if I’m lounging at home (almost…since I don’t wear shoes at home). I’ve figured out my “uniform” after a long time, and it works for me. I feel like it’s true to my essence, and I don’t feel messy or ugly. Anyway, I just wanted to chime in and say that I TOTALLY 💯 appreciate people who are ✨EXTRA✨! If you’re blessed w/ a great sense of style, and have the frame to make outfits interesting and turn heads wherever you go, YOU’RE MAKING THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE! We benefit from having places to rest our eyes, and it’s nice to have ART to admire. You are essentially a roving work of art, when you’re a stylish person. Know that you make strangers smile w/ your style, even if they don’t always get a chance to tell you so! ✨
Great video guys x I found the tips on fabric choices that have a textural element / colours that draw the eye super helpful to find Left+Up as my home. As fun as having celebs to use as examples are- it was realising that I actually wear all those things and that I always bring it back to the body/sensuality that nailed it. I’m sure the other quadrants will really appreciate those little details being added to their deep dive videos too. Funnily enough, my mother and I are both redheads, same undertones, she’s a soft Classic and I’m a soft dramatic and the way we funnel our expression is definitely up. Although I’m definitely left and she’s definitely right. So although there’s a lot of similarities between us, the end result is very different. I think this quadrant system has been sorely needed in the personal style “verse” - well done guys. Looking forward to more videos
I love how excited you guys seem about your art! It's so lovely to see people being happy doing things. The left-up makes me think of the queen from Snow White (1937). Not the murderous jealousy part, just the regality and unapologetic use of her power (albeit taken to the darkest extremes). I was resonating a little with your talk at the end of the video, but not immensely. I think I'm right rather than left, but feel toward the upper quadrant. I might change once I learn more about the downward quadrants though. I'm trying only to feel my way through because of course I'd like people to think I'm "approachable", so I may be biased by my interpretation of the wording. On another, non-system-related note: I've been digging Rita's hair as of late. The bit of wave is so cute and it frames her face so nicely.
Gosh I really love those dusty soft colors on you. You are glowing. And Meradj looks angelic, as usual. 😊 I love how you match each other in the videos💕
Yes exactly! It makes me sad when people say their preferred style/style they’re drawn to doesn’t fit their life. I hope everyone gets to where they are meant to be
Oh my god! I have been hiding my entire life! I also think of Teyana Taylor in this quadrant. She is my favourite artist, and I think that says something about my own essence as well ✨
Me yes yes yes yes . This explains so much . Rihanna has always been my style icon…. Dressing up has always been easy for me but casual looks have been difficult and many times I see I have been too boring
I mean, I’m not Rita but this is my take on it. Feel free to chime in Rita if you disagree… The differences would be how you channel your leftness. As both have a magnetism and a sensuality in your looks that the individual brings back to the body/ form time and time again. Such as- do you project a level of mystery/ aloofness to your outfit (U)? Are there a lot of details and would this be overly fussy on someone(U)? Or is there an ease to the outfit? (down) or a relatable element (down) to the look? Both are sensual, both magnetic, both draw the eye. But how you translate those things are the difference…
Oh yeah! Do you have one pair of signature sunglasses that you wear all the time? I am more of a hoarder, but especially with Covid, where I need to wear contacts as my regular glasses fog up with the mask I do get a lot of wear out of my collection. Luckily we mostly have to wear masks only inside, so when I enter somewhere it's 'mask on, sunglasses up' and then when I exit 'sunglasses down, mask off'. Will probably keep the habit of wearing contacts and sunnies even when Covid is no longer an issue lol
@@katradner9132 Haha, same, when i get inside a shop or smth i take them off so i have better vision when picking fruit or clothes, but just for walking around they are ok. I do get awfully hot from the mask right now, sadly, but i will keep on wearing it. There are prescription glasses that double up as sunglasses, check them out. As someone with eye dryness issues, i am wary of contacts, but if you are ok with them, great. My fav pair are a black rounded kitten type.
Curious to know if you also enjoy wearing a mask 😷, as well? I do,so I can still “hide” in the open. I also love wearing sunglasses inside. 🕶 It just feels right, unless I’m trying to look at something in its truest light and the lenses are too dim to view it…lol.
I think Dita Von Teese might be another example of Left + Up. Based on my understanding I would put her at the same height as Jenna Coleman, because her outfits are more conservative and streamlined - but more to the left. She's more "sensual" and "intriguing" in a vintage Hollywood sort of way. She's almost similar to Kim Kardashian in silhouette style, so I'm tempted to put them together but, I think Dita's style has an element of formality.
You mean Left+Up right? I totally agree with you! I know some people think she is Right+Up because they see her as "old hollywood refined" but I definitely see her as being primarily very sensual and intriguing!
@@StyleThoughtsbyRita Oh My gosh I totally meant Left + Up. [I edited it for consistency] Thanks for getting it and I'm happy to hear you understand why I would put her there!🙂
You both are so beautifully well-spoken, really covering this topic from so many dimensions without being redundant. Thank you so much for sharing your insight, wishing you and the channel the best!
Great video! Two more names I want to put out there where I think they are left+up are Iris Apfel (probably a lot of the women from Ari Seth Cohen's 'Advanced Style' if not all of them) and Lisa Bonet (especially in her role as Denise Huxtable, probably aided by the 1980s youth fashion). Would love if anyone had any thoughts on these ladies! Given that both are ranking high on my list of style icons, together with Phylicia Rashad and Queen Letizia who I would think are more up+right (and are both verified Kibbe DC if I am not mistaken), and having been described as 'borderline overdressed' once... Thanks for the video even more, I guess this is my home base now :-)
I absolutely love this video and you both are cute and make a great team. I love that you put Camila and Jenna in this video. I rlly like their version of left up. Idk if i am or just want to be the up kind of left, but i would not feel that overdressed in these two's outfits. 😆 completely bottom left would be Billie Eilish, imo, to which i relate a bit spiritually, but not to the very baggy outfits. 😊 I loove softly loose joggers/paperbag pants, though, i live in them. 🤩 However, I love tiny lil prints on a colorful or black background, lace, frills, assymetrical hems, leather jackets, latex leggings and caps, etc.
Great video! Your system for men and women makes so much sense. I was also thinking about Sarah Jessica Parker and Iris Apfel with their extravagant styles for Left+Up quadrant. And Alicia Keys maybe 🤔
I really like this quadrant, I constantly look at such images and dream of recreating something similar in my style. But I'm not sure that I have a bright enough character for this. It is very difficult to understand my essence from the outside. I'm afraid that I won't pull it out, that I'll turn out to be more good-natured or simple. Or maybe I'll end up on the right side (despite the fact that I don't like these images very much). But I don't know if I like left because I want to be left, or because I am left. Am I rejecting my right character? Is there a way to understand whether you are right or left by character? P. S. I'm really looking forward to the next video 😍
Unless you are completely broke and have a huge amount of debt, what you can do is to start with relatively cheap but funky jewelry found in second hand stores - like statement necklaces and such. Wear them out for different occasions and see how you feel with it. You surroundings may comment on it, but don't give too much about that - it might just be that you changing is challenging to them. If after a few outings with the 'more wild' style you feel comfy, add another layer of 'leftness' like maybe a top, or a different makeup style if you wear makeup. Small steps, possibly thrifted or with things you ma already own - there's a lot of that in second hand stores, especially as people now start to 'declutter their fantasy selves' where I think a lot of people tap into left+up energies. And if you feel uncomfortable, well, bring back the one or two pieces you tried out to a charity shop, keep what you liked, and accept that some things are fun to look at but not to wear on yourself - for me that are jumpsuits and overalls, as well as most types of jeans... I'll look at those outfits on pinterest and stuff, but I never feel comfy wearing, so I don't buy them for myself any longer. (sorry for the long comment, hope it helps a bit though)
I feel u, even if I'm 'down' I don't really know if I'm left or right. I LOVE the left outfits and persona but I fear that because of my short height I might not pull them off as I would...
I'm pretty sure that I'm left/up. I feel incredibly awkward in a plain white tee and blue jeans. I also love cottagecore(right/down) but it makes me feel frumpy. Think about the outfits you feel REALLY GOOD in. I know a lot of style people recommend it, but it really does help to take pictures of your outfits. Keep the pictures all together and look for the common theme. (I'm short also.)
@@ombradeisogni6586 Do not worry, your height will definitely not prevent you from wearing a lot of details. In fact, height is the last thing to worry about. You would be yourself and beautiful with any height. Judging by the recommendations of Kibby, we can say that in many ways it is with a small height that you can wear more details. At least I noticed a lot of such advice in kibby recommendations for the types of gamin and romantic. I would also add that I myself have an average height, but I often feel too tall and want to be small, like a miniature fairy)) Many people worry about height, appearance, but there are no specific ideals for everyone, and perhaps you are an ideal for someone. So the only way out is to accept yourself :) Well, do not be afraid. I am sure that you will be beautiful and with a lot of details, if it corresponds to your inner understanding of yourself :))) I would say that I have more problems understanding my character than I have problems with the fear of wearing things. There was a period when I wore strange things, then bright, then even inappropriate. People reacted in different ways, both good and bad, but in fact, for the most part, everyone does not care what others are wearing. So for myself, I decided not to be afraid of any experiments that I like. I hope this text will help you not to look at your growth as something that can interfere with your self-expression
@@candicedoss1112 I would say that I feel good in clothes left/down, it is a kind of freedom to be yourself and show the character of light wildness. I usually wear these clothes. I can say it myself when I'm alone with myself. Sometimes, when I try to please other people, I dress up as a "girly", so sweet, quiet and obedient, which I try to be in front of everyone. I'm very afraid of losing face in front of them. Well, left/up is a kind of ideal for me, a muse. But in fact, I don't think I could have presented it. Because I like to be sincere, to be myself, and for me this is not enough, Up should be a little pretentious and intimidating. If I was up, I guess it would still be up/right. Due to this fear of losing face. So I doubt it, it's very ambiguous. It is difficult to separate the external, the internal, and which of these is the truth.
I don't know! I don't have any ideas about the physical checklist for left/right but I can see someone with very deep and high contrast coloring can have a very "elemental" "gravity" look 🙂
Rita, I love your videos so much! I've watched a bunch of them, and I still have a question that I've not been able to answer yet ... I'm definitely a LEFT UP DRAMATIC (with summer coloring), and I'm racking my brain to figure out, what on earth do I wear ... in the heat of the summer running errands in comfortable shoes , or camping?? Do shorts and t-shirts fit here? Eep!
I am struggling on how to dress left up in the summer and during heat waves that are common where I live. I have a lot of light colors and linen pieces that would better suit right down.
I feel like I identify within myself more of the keywords from Left. Just trying to figure out if I'm more Up or Down. After watching both the Left+Up and Left+Down videos, I feel like I'm more Left+Up. I noticed that each quadrant has women with all different Kibbe image ID's. For example, Blake Lively and Florence Welch are both flamboyant naturals, but Blake is Right+Up and Florence is Left+Up. I like that flexibility within your system. I also feel like because of that fluidity and looseness it can be hard for someone who is very invested in the rigidity of the Kibbe system to find their place within that. But now that I've evaluated a bit, I feel like I'm generally in the Left+Up area. Would you say that any outfit can be made to fit into any quadrant, with the right styling + accessories (think makeup, hair, jewellery, bags, shoes)? Because I find myself still wanting to incorporate clothes and shapes from other flamboyant natural style icons, such as Blake Lively, who are an a different quadrant than me.
No I don't think any outfit can be in any quadrant just with styling. But I think there are many clothes that can work for anyone in any quadrant. There's no need to restrict yourself though, you're not trying to do the best job to represent an essence quadrant but just trying to dress yourself in the best way. If you like both Florence and Blake's style, why not do both!
I personally see them in this quadrant as well. Both have looks that look very intentional/effort put (putting them in the up quadrant) and wherever they are, they have attention always put on them as opposed to radiating energy (putting them in the left quadrant)
@@CandyAndromeda IMO, I feel like missy is more of a right up quadrant type of person. Like for her clothing, she looks best when she looks sorta of dress-up (in a more streetwear type of way of course), and it feels like her outfits are very intentional, and she’s trying to make a statement. But she in my opinion would be more right as opposed to left because she doesn’t really have the energy of like “hey every look at me” or an intimidating factor, but she makes everyone feel at ease a little bit when around her, which I think Rita means by the right quadrants (but I could definitely be wrong about that)
Can u type Natalie Portman and Nina Dobrev? they both look their best in deep colored simple effortless yet classic refined outfits. Their features are soft but still striking! I’m guessing maybe left down leaning right?
I suggest my "logics of dressing" video, are you more guided by the impact you want to make or is your goal to feel good for yourself? A bit of an oversimplification lol but a good summary 🌸
Your system is really the missing piece! I wonder where you would place Gwyneth Paltrow? She looks radiant like a Right-Up but sensual like a Left. Maybe she’s an Enchantress? I have both sensuality and luminosity like her. I’m unsure if that means I’m on the cusp of Left and Right Up -or of I’m very far Left and Up.
hehe nvm Rita, the Style Adventure helped so much. And since then I’ve been participating in the fan FB group, asking for help, and mulling things over. And I think I mistyped myself on the diagonal. My first impulse was Left+Up but I’m probably Right+Down (which is the last quadrant I would have chosen but it makes perfect sense 🥰). I hope the final weeks of the semester are going well. Thanks again for building this community!
BTW: if you want an exampe of a left+up celebrity with "Summer" colors, I would look at Olivia Wilde!

I am sure that you will be beautiful and with a lot of details, if it corresponds to your inner understanding of yourself :)))
I would say that I have more problems understanding my character than I have problems with the fear of wearing things.
It is difficult to separate the external, the internal, and which of these is the truth.
you both are so adorable, I love how you look at each other 😭
I got a thought. What if left side is about contrast of your features? Colours, this exotic kind. Not as classic
I don't know! I don't have any ideas about the physical checklist for left/right but I can see someone with very deep and high contrast coloring can have a very "elemental" "gravity" look 🙂
Amazingggg video per usual. And yes kudos to the diversity 💜🧡
You’ve included example style aesthetics in your other quadrant videos. I found that quite helpful. Are there any that come to mind for LU?
Rita, I love your videos so much! I've watched a bunch of them, and I still have a question that I've not been able to answer yet ... I'm definitely a LEFT UP DRAMATIC (with summer coloring), and I'm racking my brain to figure out, what on earth do I wear ... in the heat of the summer running errands in comfortable shoes , or camping?? Do shorts and t-shirts fit here? Eep!
I think Janelle Monae is a great example of this quadrant!
Oooh! Yesss! What a great example!
I am struggling on how to dress left up in the summer and during heat waves that are common where I live. I have a lot of light colors and linen pieces that would better suit right down.
Excited for the upcoming videos !
I'm gna need a Pinterest for all these ASAP
You guuuyyys areeee so cuuuuttteeeee
Loved the video as usual, liked it before watching
Might someone trying to type herself mistake being enchanting for being approachable?
Omg yes Angelina in the conservative suits! I always find it so jarring.
Great video! Would you put Nicki Minaj and Doja Cat in this quadrant as well?
I personally see them in this quadrant as well. Both have looks that look very intentional/effort put (putting them in the up quadrant) and wherever they are, they have attention always put on them as opposed to radiating energy (putting them in the left quadrant)
I think doja cat would be in this quadrant as well. Is this the quadrant for female rappers? 😝
I agree!
I agree that doja cat would be, but I can also immediately think of several female rappers who don't belong in this quadrant
@@lilyk527 yeah, like Missy Elliot. She is left down, maybe?
@@CandyAndromeda IMO, I feel like missy is more of a right up quadrant type of person. Like for her clothing, she looks best when she looks sorta of dress-up (in a more streetwear type of way of course), and it feels like her outfits are very intentional, and she’s trying to make a statement. But she in my opinion would be more right as opposed to left because she doesn’t really have the energy of like “hey every look at me” or an intimidating factor, but she makes everyone feel at ease a little bit when around her, which I think Rita means by the right quadrants (but I could definitely be wrong about that)
@@farrelletoumani1257 i see your point. 😊 it could be so 😊
Can u type Natalie Portman and Nina Dobrev?
they both look their best in deep colored simple effortless yet classic refined outfits.
Their features are soft but still striking!
I’m guessing maybe left down leaning right?
I see Nina as a left+down and Natalie as a right+down 💃
@@StyleThoughtsbyRita yeah true both give off “down” energy, so interesting to know your thoughts! thank u sm for responding!
Is there a video about women in Right Down?
Not yet, it's all coming! 💃
@@StyleThoughtsbyRita ohhh..great yahh im either right or left down 😊 this is fun thank you ❤️
Ok I’m definitely right but how do you determine if you are up or down? I get that it’s a quadrant and i must be around the middle.
I suggest my "logics of dressing" video, are you more guided by the impact you want to make or is your goal to feel good for yourself? A bit of an oversimplification lol but a good summary 🌸
I think another great example of left up would be fka twigs
Right Up is next right ! PLZZZZ lolz
It's coming next week 💃
OMG! LOVE THIS! Brilliant! Bravo!
