    Yes, Cracklin Rosie is a cheep wine. It's a song about cheap wine taking the place of female companionship. While in a remote area in Canada, Diamond allegedly had heard folklore about some Native American men sitting around campfires on weekend nights drinking Cracklin Rosie. Not enough women to go around as men outnumbered women on the Reservation 3-1.

      Interesting that Diamond also wrote and recorded RED RED WINE in 1967. Lots of covers from Reggae to Rap. I kinda like the UB40 version

      "Cracklin' Rosie you are a store bought woman"... too many people miss the idea that it is store bought wine becoming a replacement for human companionship.

    Growing up in Canada when the song came out, I knew the song was about a sparkling rosé (blend of red and white) wine. My parents used to have it on occasion. I was surprised in recent years to realize this would be news to Americans.

    cracklin' rosie is about a guy riding the rails with his guitar and a bottle of rose' wine...just one of those perfect little gem singles that happened a lot in the late 60s early 70s :p :)

    My first "rock" concert was Neil Diamond in Portland (OR) in 1970. "Rosie" was a new song in his repertoire, and he told the audience it was partly inspired by a cocktail waitress he met while visiting Nome. Having lived in Alaska since I was seven, I realized how small the world can be and how one never knows when one might meet a current or future celebrity and possibly inspire him/her in some way. And his live performances sound just like his records. An amazing performer and songwriter.

    Named after Crackling Rosé, a cheap Canadian sparkling wine from the 60s-70s. We used to drink that with our hashish before we learned about decent wine.

    Great song and reaction and interpretation. But it’s a song about a kind of wine, which he is referring to as a “store bought woman”. It’s about being on the road with just a guitar and a bottle of “Crackin’ Rosie” a kind of rosé wine.

    It's a wine. Rose' is a wine and he's referring to it as her and a lady. And how he feels when he's drank it and "she's" "on board." "Store bought woman" is the fact that the wine is bought from a store. Listen to it again now.

    Well . . . everyone tells me that crackling Rosie is cheap wine, and I know that is true, but . . . what i believed for years was that he was on a river boat, telling a pretty Cuban lady, Rosie, to get on board. Rosie wore long skirts with lots if crinolines underneath, so she crackled! She was a bit of a trollop, thus was called "a poor man's lady." Paid by the hour, or by the night.
    Like Tasha, I could clearly see the story unfold! It was disillusioning to hear he was singing about a bottle of cheap wine!!! Lol!

  • @erickent3557

      You can not go wrong with any song by the singer/songwriter Neil Diamond. He wrote songs for others including "I'm a Believer" by the Monkees. The first song I remember noticing Neil on the radio is "Song Sung Blue". That said, you really need to react to "I Am I Said". Though he done other great songs this one is one of my favs. Have a great journey!! 😀😀🥰😀

    Loved your theorising on what the lyrics might mean when all the while he just singing about cheap booze 😏😏ND wrote some great songs 'I'm a Believer' covered by The Monkees., 'Monday Monday' covered by The Mamas and Papas and 'Red Red Wine' (hmmm - maybe he had a bit of a problem) covered by UB40 to mention just few.

    • @grosbeak6130
      @grosbeak6130 2 месяца назад

      Wrong, it's not just about the wine but the lyrics have a double entendre. Many people go around like you not realizing this. That's what makes this song and lyrics great. He's not just singing to a cheap bottle of wine. It's more three-dimensional than that. Yes there's the wine, but also the double entendre that goes along with it. The song entails the of some encounter. When you just totally reduce it to a wine bottle or a booze bottle you're not fully getting it. Again, there's the wine and then there's a lady beyond the wine that the song is existing for. The song doesn't just exist for a wine bottle, and singing or crying over his beer.
