I grew up in Barstow, and the old park was WAY cooler than after they "updated" it in the 90's. In the 70's, there were several very long sheet-metal waterslides, (one you could stand-up on) that were super -high speed. You would bring your little inflatable raft, an go down the slide. You be going fast when you hit the water, that you could hydroplane across the lake. There was nothing else like it. There was a high trapeze that was cool, too. You could camp there at night and hAve open fires and BEER....The old park closed after a girl drowned, and the party was over.

Times have definitely changed! Now a days you wouldn’t be able to get away with any of what was going on back then. Glad there’s still people around who remember these simpler, wilder times! Always cool to hear stories from places that have lots of history like this one. Appreciate you watching!

Some company bought the location years ago and has been wanting to rebuild it. Seems like nothing has been done at all, and I don't think a water park in the middle of nowhere will do any better than it did 20 years ago

This place is best off as a tour attraction. Unfortunately I think you’re right. No one is going to drive way out into the desert to go to a place like this anymore. Times have changed and water parks just aren’t as popular as they used to be. Especially when they’re miles out in the desert, in the middle of nowhere! Thank you for watching!

if the company who bought it is smart, they'll build a bunch of large bathrooms, a small store, a motel, a restaurant or few restaurants and some sort of activity like a small pool, minigolf etc. This would attract people going on long drives to make pit stops and would be far less expensive to maintain. A gun range would also not be a bad idea, not many places where you can shoot large caliber rifles over long distances.

WAIT! You’ve been here?? Bro I was just here three times in the past month. Never thought you’d make it to the west coast. Good stuff!! Would be crazy to tag along next time you’re on the west coast.
By the way, since you’ve been here, the Arcade has since burned as well as two attempts someone made to burn the locker building (the building you guys were standing on in the drone shots. The lower portion of the that roof is now riddled with holes from the two fires. Also, more of the loose railing on the tower now hanging off the side. Incredibly sad people feel the need to destroy.
It’s mind blowing how much changes at this place from week to week.

I lived about 10 min went all the time to the OG park, the slides were metal so baking in the sun they were hot. Also since the Army base is close people would just drink and party, they allowed glass bottles, so bare feet and glass you can guess what it was like.

I read online a lot about what you’re describing. Sounds like it was the PLACE TO BE during the summer! Also sounds like many people were getting hurt or even killed which is extremely unfortunate. Appreciate you taking the time to check out our video.
