Here's Why The Harley Sportster 883 Is THE BEST Beginner Bike (For Me...)
Today Jon (from Jon's Moto Garage) is taking over the channel! I'm going over why the Harley Davidson Iron 883 is the BEST beginner motorcycle for Jackie.
#iron883 #sportster #harleysportster #beginnermotorcycles
What makes the best beginner motorcycle for YOU?
the one you can get first is always the best
In the same boat with an 883 and mods needed. By the time I get done with, I'll know what bike I should have gotten in the first place haha
My first bike is a 2017 iron 883 red denim, just bought it last Saturday. I love it! Already got short shots, full RRI LED lighting/daymaker, and 10in z bars. It's a great beginner bike, I'm 30 years old, 6'4 150lbs and I am comfortable on my iron 883.
My first bike was a Honda Trail 70. I was a kid and it fit perfect and was easy to learn.
@@wolfy5471 mine was a 1974 yamaha GT 80 ...57 miles per hour top speed! at the time it felt like 200
Hi Jackie i just bought a 883 sporter 2020 for me I'm waiting to get my class. I'm 5"1 short lady and old to. Just turn 64 this year but I'm sooo ready thank you guys for helping people like me
Hi Irma, I am 5'1" as well and, trust me, you're going to want to learn on something smaller, like a Honda Rebel 250. In my area, all MSF classes have been cancelled for the year, so my husband has been teaching me and it has been a BLAST on the Honda! I love it. I totally feel in control and ride it to work now. I only started in February. After getting some miles under my belt (so far I've got 2,500) I might step up to something a little bigger like a Suzuki Boulevard S40. By the way, I'm 63, so I know what you're saying. How's the training going?
Jon hit the nail on the head when he said " you know it's the bike when you turn around and look at it after you're done riding " just practice, practice, practice. Be safe out there you two.
Yes!!! Always practicing! Thank you for the support!!
"I am not super thrilled about her adding stuff to it and spending $"(pans to see 8 other bikes in the garage). LOL!!!!!
🤣🤣🤣 I'll have to secretly sell those to fund my Sportster project! 🤫
YGG you rock that Sporty
I sold HD at a dealership from 2003 - 2009 and I told people all the time the most important thing you can do as a new rider is get the bike your most comfortable on even if it’s not a HD but comfort is safety the less things your worried about frees your mind to concentrate on what’s important the road and other people on it. I also agree if you don’t look back at what ever it is you have and smile then don’t get it get what makes you feel good Jon remember the more money she spends on your bike makes it easy to justify spending on yours lmao
Definitely need to be comfortable!!!
🤣 I'll have to tell him that. He's already spent money on his, so I guess I can start getting stuff for mine!!
You hit the nail on the head. It's the bike that speaks to you. That makes you excited to ride, not scared. But if you really want to ride, anything is still better than nothing.
Yes, but it's such a bonus if you are comfortable and you LOVE what you're riding!! Thanks for watching!
@@JackiesMotoGarage so very true! But you two might have an unfair advantage over most of your followers. :-)
Well done Jon for recognising that Jackie works hard at home. Again well said, a bike is a very personal thing. I’m in the process of deciding the right bike for me
I'm glad he recognizes that, too!! 😍 Good luck on finding the bike that's right for you!! So fun! Thanks for the support!
im gonna suggest the Harley Iron 1200 sportster, my first bike. I'm 5'6 as well and it fits me perfect
little more into the video and what jon said about picking an 883 over the 1200 for a newer rider is a good move. I don't really know if you'd consider me a new rider because i've been riding dirtbikes all my life, learned how to use a clutch when i was like 9. 25 now, hoping on the iron 1200 i didn't feel like the bike was too powerful or anything.
Thank you jackie for all your videos.I started riding at the age of 20yrs old.Two years later a good friend of mine killed himself on a bike. After that I stopped riding. At the age of 46yrs old I started riding again.I bought a Yamaha R6 rode it for a year.Sold it because I found my new love. The Iron 883 I love it.Soon I'm going to buy it soon.wanted to share my story.Thank you for being a inspiration in the bike world.🙌💯👌
About the mods...I highly suggest handlebars and suspension first for the iron 883. Exhaust is sexy, but nowhere near the change you'll feel compared to if you upgrade the rear and front suspension. I'm a huge hater of the stock suspension. It'll be much easier to handle as well. Once you get comfortable with those changes, I would say do whatever you want. Like Jonboy said (and I mentioned before), the aftermarket for these bikes is endless. Oh! And the saddlemen step-up seat (similar to what Jon has on the Dyna). That was a huge gamechanger for me. Never thought a seat would make that much of a difference but it does. Good luck. Have fun. Ride safe!
Congratulations!! Jackie glad you found the bike that put's that smile on you face , it's important to love what you ride !!!
So excited!!! Thanks for the support!
Yeah, she was clearly more thrilled to ride the HD. Glad you've both experienced the Vulcan S.
The Vulcan will always have a special place in my heart, but I can't deny how much I LOVE the 883!
Glad to see that Jackie has her own channel now. As for feedback on her ride and the " mods", yeah , possible big money pit. The stock 2 into 2 on her 883 sounds just fine, seriously. And I am a Bassani fan, not so much a V&H fan, too common. (I like the lower pitch of the Bassani's). Jackie, one way to check out your " sound" , is if you like the acceleration sound , get up high and get going down hill at a good clip, rev it, then release the throttle , don't gear change, and then listen to the pipes when you are using the engine as an engine-brake .( Jon can call you on that one for an explanation). Should sound like a deep thunder sound.
All else, looks good Jackie, but no back flips off the truck, eh! LOL.
Stay Safe and Ride on
W
My first bike after 30 years of not riding was a Dyna Super Glide. I felt like a million bucks on that thing.
Isn't that the best feeling?!? It makes riding even more fun!
That water bottle flip has to be Jackie's opening "nailed it"😎
Hahah that was such a fluke!! It will definitely have to be in the intro!
Miss Jackie, YOU ROCK! 🤘
Everybody show this video to everybody you know that rides. Beginner to grizzled 1%. 883 is an excellent choice, hard to beat that “Harley feel”.
I’m in between bikes as I recover from injury. I’m fortunate enough to have access to a tri glide that I can get from A to B. Sunny ☀️ 85 in central Floriduh today and I rode to the beach and chilled for a while. A nice remember of what living really is. With my health issues, a motorcycle satisfies in many places that nothing else can
Y’all keep it up, I’m super impressed with both of you. Shiny side up
I am a new rider and went looking or Rebel's and a couple of naked bikes today. I sat on a 2020 Iron 883 on a whim on my way out of a dealership and I looked at my friend and said, "Dang! This is amazing and I hate that I like this so much!" haha I had done no research on this bike so I didn't pull the trigger there and just watched this as part of my research on this bike and I think I'm ready to pull the trigger! Thanks so much.
Congrats to Jackie on hitting 2000 subscribers😎 and great choice on the iron 883. I love the looks of this bike😁. I find myself sneaking peeks at the bike over the winter as it’s stored under a blanket tucked away until spring😢. But spring is almost here 😁 soon to be riding again can’t wait. Enjoy your ride Jackie and ride safe.
For me I wanted a Harley Davidson period. I also wanted a Sportster period. This was my back into riding bike. I previously owned a Honda CX500C, my very first bike. I rode the Honda for many years. I finally had the money and opportunity so Harley Sportster is where I went. I found a '01 883 custom. It was and is still Awesome!! I think your choice was great choice!! As long as you are happy that is all that matters!! That's my share. Thanks. Be good and be safe!!
Just bought me a 2019 iron 883. Absolutely love it. Great bike and enough speed for me I've had it to 90mph enough for me. And yes I'm already looking to modify. Got some Avon air cushioned grips will be here Saturday. Then want to add new pipes and do a tank lift on it. So many options for this bike.
Would this be a good bike for someone that's never riden any type or motorcycle?
So glad I found this video!! Now going to pick my Sportster XL883 Low up for my 50th birthday and am so excited!! Have wanted one for over half my life since my time spent in the US. I certainly did a backward take the first time I viewed it and looked back at it in my photo's and video's countless times since. My VFR400 never did that to me. This is the bike for me! Thank you.
I told my wife I’d rather her grow with it than into it. It will make things more enjoyable. She bought a Rebel 500 after a long search. Best first bike for her. Looks like you found the one Jackie.
Hope to see you back in the saddle soon, my wife is going through some pretty similar PPD and you really inspire her... she really appreciates your presence here on RUclips. Like as much as anyone. Best wishes
My heart goes out to your wife. That is not easy stuff. Thank you so much for your comment! It really made my night. Jon is still gone for work and I am counting down the days until he gets back so I can get out and ride with him! Let your wife know that she is not alone and there is no shame in talking about it/getting help! Her mental health is so important and I really hope she finds some relief. Thank you so much for watching. I absolutely love hearing from viewers and love hearing about women who have been inspired! ❤
@@JackiesMotoGarage I really look forward to showing her this wonderful message when she wakes up tomorrow, she’ll be over the moon when she sees it! Those were very kind words and definitely Will be taken to heart. Can’t wait to see more of your wonderful content, we’re both rooting for you big time! It’s great to see you that RUclips is such wonderful community full of genuine content creators that really are as they appear. Best wishes from a young Moto family in Freezing cold Chicago!
@@GMCBigBlock420 Me and my husband try to keep things 100% authentic! Thank you for rooting for me. I've had a blast learning to ride! You guys are more than welcome to reach out on Instagram (@jackiesmotogarage) - especially if your wife ever wants to talk about ppd! Ride safe and stay warm!
@@JackiesMotoGarage that’s very kind, that would be very wonderful! I’ve always tried to be best supportive as possible, but it’s really the people although understand through experience who are the best to Allie yourselves with. Thank you so much Jackie!! 😊
I just bought a Sportster custom 1200cc and I'm also starting learning how to ride a bike with this one; but I admit this is a little bit scary as beginner; so probably my man gonna received it and I gonna just begin with a 883.
Thanks for your video guys;
How did that go? I've never riden a bike but really like the 883
I got 95 883. Love it. I hang with soft tails. It’s a rider more than the bike.
My first bike was a 2 cycle moped. I had to pedal it to start it. I was 14 and wild 😂
I had something like that too! 😅
Another reason the 883 is a better option than a 1200 for a beginner is the shorter gears. The beginner will not feel as overwhelmed as first gear winds out with the 883. I'm an experienced rider of 56 years and I prefer my 883 over the 1200 because I ride mostly mountain twisties and I can also use the gears to slow down and stay in better control. Besides, I like keeping the revs up.
I am 43 years old and I guess you could say I went through my mid-life crisis last spring and I bought my first motorcycle last spring and I started out on 2019 iron then at the end of the summer traded in on a 2020 Softail slim
That seems like the best kind of mid life crisis!! Thanks for watching and ride safe!
How do you like the soft tail? I'm in the same boat. I started on a 2020 883 and I want something with a little more power now that I'm more comfortable. I love the look of the soft tails.
Swore midlife was 45
You have a great family!! I hope things keep getting better for you... you seem like nice people😁
Thank you so much! Your support does not go unnoticed.
Got my first Harley Davidson Sportster.. Super Low 883... love it so far ..beautiful bike... Birchwood white/ red sunburst....
Doesn’t the Vulcan have forward controls while the sportster has mid? Having your feet under you may contribute to feeling more comfortable as a beginner. I’m also a beginner and right now I prefer mid controls. Oh, and the Harley does sound great too.
Yes, the mid controls are awesome. Definitely help. Thank you for watching!
Great vid but u should post this on your channel too. When I’m here I want to hear her. But still good vid
Don't worry, he won't be taking over my channel!! I have just been so busy and felt bad I hadn't posted anything in a while. Thank you for your support!! It means a lot!
I've had at least 6 xl's over 40 years and each one I wore them out, I've run them so hard and they could take a licking and keeps on ticking, it's good for a man to have a touring bike and a 2nd like a SPORTSTERS to put the around town miles on
You guys should both ride a sport glide and do reviews! Love both your content
We'll keep an eye out!! Thanks for checking out the video and for the support!
I would say it is a must to love the looks. It isn't the same If you aren't in love with your bike.
Yes!! If you don't love it, you're not going to want to ride it!
i have that same Harley-Davidson 883 (2013) my first on-road motorcycle, no aftermarket parts beyond my Harley bell xD
weight is really low center on it, handles smooth in corners banked or flat in slower mountain roads and takes very little effort for lean-input, responds perfectly with foot peg balance AND really fun at 100(tops out just over 100mph) Really glad i picked this over a sport bike, for my first motorcycle And come on now, it's a Harley! Plus this model, i weigh around 125 and for me open-throttle makes the bike launch,! Really good motorcycle for beginners but be warned, Hold On Good if you get gutsy! xD
I have an 2007 883 and I just 😍. There should be more women riders. It’s just a perfect bike. I love the color. 👍keep riding lady. 👍👍🥰
LOVE the 883. It is an amazing bike. There should definitely be more women riders!! Thanks for the support!
Amen sister.
Kiaora from New Zealand 🤗just hooked on to this channel,Wow!! The Harley 883 iron is a great learners bike,it's the right size for NZ cause our roads ain't like yours, but still good riding,ka pai Keep riding and stay safe 👍
I think the Harley to also congratulations on 2000 subscribers in such a short time🇦🇺🤙
Thank you!!! I did not expect to get that many so fast! It's been a fun journey!!
There's nothing like a Harley Davidson! Especially when you throw a high flow air filter and 2 into 1 exhaust on it with a tune. Woowee!
I agree friend, but you don't need a 2 into 1 for that... A good set of slip ons with the filter and a pc would be all it needs.....or a set of 2 into 2...just my opinion is all... Have a great night friends!
@@michaelmitchell5909 2 into 1 has better performance than duals or slip on. Personally I think they sound better too. But yeah, slip on would be cheapest.
Nice job, Jon.
Your Spanish is on point HERMANO! 👍
I'm envious of his Spanish skills!
I quite like the intro music. Home made?
I just got a 2004 Harley sportster 883 and I love it the sound everything, the only thing I say is that I’m worried the top heavy will get the best of me, any tips on getting better with the top heaviness please and thank you?!
40 years of riding and I just bought another sporster. 2005-883. I couldn't list the bikes I've had.
You guys rock....ROCK ON!!!
Another great video. Thanks for the review
Thanks for watching!
Another great viddy from Jonkie's Moto Garage. 😉 What makes a great beginner bike? You already hit all the key points! 👍 In a nutshell we'd say comfortable, confidence inspiring, and gives you the fizz. 😎
👨👩👧 ❤
Thanks man!!! And thanks Jackie!!! I highly appreciate the video coming from you and given that I just got a sportster 1200 a couple months ago. I get what you say about the power.. I just like cruising chilling.. love it!! Thanks again and safe riding!!!
Jackie is so cool! Nice bike choice
Thank you so much!!! 🏍❤
Wow that's awesome Jackie!!!!!
OK now john, get some slip on mufflers for it so itll come to life!!!! ...Vance& Hines straight shots all day long!... Or the cobra nabor haters.... I can't stand that name but the sound pretty amazing on a Harley!
I would be interested to see some of the mods you do to make that 883 "yours" easy one is a tank lift to clean of the stock plastic covers. Just a thought, great video!
That sporty is all ya need🏄♂️🏄♂️🏄♂️
Def loves that Harley rumble
Thank you for your knowledge!
Hi, love the channel, a cuestión. How old would you go when buying a used bike? 5, 6 or more years
Thank’s
Depends on the bikes condition there are 20 year old Harleys in better shape and mileage than bikes 5 years old
I am so happy that the best bike for me never was an HD. I could not pay it lol.
Would you find an Indian Scout or Scout Sixty to be a contender ? Weight is decent, performance is better than sportster and for me it has all of the American retro spirit. Starting to see used prices to come down on the Indian.
I really do love the look of the Scouts as well!! I haven't ridden one yet, but that is one that is on my list to try! I asked Jon and he says the Scout is definitely a great contender. Best bet would be going to a demo day and trying both out if possible. Thank you for watching!
I love watching your wife videos. My favorite bike is the HD 883👍👍👍. I love the color 🥰🥰🥰of yours.
Thank you for watching!! We appreciate you being here!
Good video!
Like the chrome pipes of this 883 and the color combination could have been better like it showy in the video picture, kind of copper or gold!
I love the 883 with one exception, the highway
Best looking Harley there is. Beginner or experienced. It's the only Harley I own.
Vulcan is super comfortable. Sitting position is just perfect. The only problem Vulcan has is a parallel twin that sounds like a shit. And that lack of V-twin sound kills all its advantages
Beautiful couple.
Thank you 😊
Do you know what seat is on that bike? I really like that seat, looks great!
Jon says it's a solo seat off of a Sportster 72. Thank you for watching!!
Jackie, you look much better on the Harley too!!
Thank you and thanks for watching!!
Why is literally nobody talking about the bottle flip in the beginning
My proudest moment!! 😆
Hi I’m wanting to get one but I don’t know if it’s right for me I think it’s got too much power I’ve never ridden a street bike I want something that Is not gonna be too much power for me I only weigh 149lb and afraid it’s gonna throw me off if it’s too much power
Dude, get the bars up (shoulder high) and back for her, so she doesn't have to lean forward while she's riding it.
Jackie what did you think of the bolt
I never got the chance to ride it!! Loved the look though. Jon says the bolt would be similar to the sportster.
@@JackiesMotoGarage yeah i upgraded to a bolt r spec i know jon had both r and c spec which do you prefer in style. I started out wanting a c spec but then decided on an r spec cuz of my height im 6 foot
The 883 Sportster is not a "Beginner" or "Girls" only Bike. It's a very well made machine that is easy to maintain, the Evo powerplant is one of the best Harley ever made. It will do 100mph as fast as you can hit 5'th gear. If you want a true "Beginner" Bike I sure would not chose one that weighs 550 pounds and has this kind of speed.
Where is the Dyna Diva? Jackie likes what she likes. I got to figure out a new street name for Jackie. I know Bagger Killa.
nice bike
If you guys want to try a 1200 I'm in the area
how tall is Jackie ?
I'm 5'5. Thanks for watching!
@@JackiesMotoGarage ok great thank you am 5'6 Iron 833 it is
How people can afford so many motorcycles while I can't afford 30yo used bike for 2k. When I see videos like that with a garage full of motorcycles my depression is 10x bigger than 15 min ago.
Cool que hables español !!
Dream garage
So basically she likes it because it's a Harley?
P.S. Is this a comfortable riding position 4:04
She definitely does not look comfortable. Her arms are straight and should be slightly bent. I don't know how tall Jackie is but I am 5'1" and I actually sat on a Harley Davidson 883 Sportster Custom today. I had to tip toe (not flat foot) when I sat in the seat and my right leg was right up against the exhaust pipe as I tried to hold the bike up. The bike feels HUGE. If she got on a Honda Rebel 250, she would love it! I definitely decided today I am not a Harley fan.
Jackie found “her” bike
Your girl is fine. Sorry no offense but she’s a keeper
Why is nobody talking the bottle 👿
So you just like the look of it.
Fact is sportsters are a terrible learners bike, it’s ridiculously heavy and has no brakes. But it’s probably true there are even worse bikes out there to begin on.
That bike is way too big for her. She wouldn’t be able to ride it for very long/ she is fully stretched
Bullshit sportster is not the best beginner bike. A good Japanese bike is the best way to go.their so much easier to get used to.
Complete waste of money is what that bike is
