This looks very exciting. It refines the actions per minute down to the most essential, dismissing resource gathering, base construction, and build orders, which will actually help amateurs like me to learn faster. It will hugely help the developers to make new additions delicately: if a meta develops, remove the single unit, make adjustments, and reintroduce, without hand wringing about whole factions. It all seems very smart and innovative.

Surprised by the negativity here. I think this looks great! A super fast paced game looks really fun.

Interesting they went balls-to-the-wall rethinking the genre. No point in being SC2.5. Whether it works or not, I guess we'll see, but I like that they were bold with it.

Agreed - considering the state of RTS and that the current RTS enjoyers already have such a vast set of opinions on what is good, something completely fresh has a better chance of catching on imo.

Looks like an RTS to play when you don't want to think

    • @WardiTV

It's definitely a different approach, but once you start playing you'll see there is definitely not a lot of brain off moments in the game :D

This might be a huge market and if well executed it can work well I think. At the end of the day, many of us are tired of work and just want a quick clickfest where we can still show our skills for a couple of hours before bed. I could see this game working, definitely keeping an eye on it.

So an RTS for when you don't want to have to think much, like after a long day of work? I don't think that's a bad thing at all to have games like that. I'm sure I'll play it some the same way I play SC2 arcade, MOBAS, or mobile games when I'm too tired to ladder after work, and hopefully it does introduce more people to RTS. I certainly don't think it's the future of RTS like they've tried to market. But a fun mobile-style game where you can knock out 20 matches in an hour? Absolutely.

looks pretty responsive and snappy in terms of gameplay. Entertaining to watch at least. Hopefully things can grow from here. Maybe alternative game modes or customisable timer. I’d also like fighting the computer at least as an option, to help learn or maybe more chill/casual games in that sense,

Love that they bring in a lot of fresh ideas. It also seems that the game has been built up from the ground around those ideas, which is essential. One of my first thoughts regarding game design issues is that the deckbuilding part might be an issue in online ranked play if you only play those short individual matches, because what I got from this video is that you have to choose your deck in advance and you don't know the deck of your oponent. So this might be a bit of a gamble. Of course this would be less of a problem if you play a series of matches against the same opponent.

The game is so fast that something like best of 15 is possible in tournaments.
Then, skilled players will win more consistently in this game than in best of 3 or 5 in other long RTS games.
Also, just like some fighting games, it makes sense to set the default ladder as best of 3 instead of 1 because the game is short enough to play 2~3 games against the same opponent.

Great video, your experience having played the game really showed. I'm as excited for this as I am ZeroSpace (which I backed) and I hope to get a chance to try Battle Aces in the not too distant future! So many cool upcoming RTS but this looks like one of the slicker ones!

Will it have 1v1 vs AI? I see they mentioned adding 2v2 vs AI in future but what about 1v1?

    • @3Wizards
      @3Wizards 20 дней назад +1

I have not heard anything specific about that, but with 1v1 being the main competitive mode it is almost certain that you can play that vs AI.

Not sure yet, but it looks like there's maybe like 20-25 different units and you choose like 3-5 as your personal loadout?

The game feels too plain. Base is one building, map is flat, units similar to what we already know. Noone´s gonna play this over any Starcraft game...

I think it looks fun as. It's removed lots of game mechanics that aren't battle related.
It's not trying to be SC2 or AOE4 and I like those games too

I'm shocked that this is what David Kim, the lead dev on Starcraft 2, created. I remember when he left Blizzard to start work on this game. He mentioned that he wanted to make an RTS that wasn't focused on APM. This game certainly achieves that goal. I was expecting something slower like Command and Conquer Tiberium Sun. Fast, short games don't really scratch that RTS itch for me. A strategy game for me is a slower paced game, that gives me time to think, not rush me into thinking as fast as I can or lose. Starcraft 2 was think about 12 things at once as fast as you can. This is think about 3 things at once as fast as you can. I want a game that's letting me think about 6 things at once, with time to consider options, and certainly not rushed by a timer. This is RTS for generation ADD. I feel like generation ADD doesn't want to play an RTS game because it's a boomer genre, and boomers don't want to play this because it's the Fortnite version of an RTS.
IDK. That's just my thoughts. I hope that the devs iterate on this concept and at the very least make bigger maps. I've never been a fan of PVP in a shoe box type of games. Thanks for showing us Wardi. I wish these devs luck.

I love how all the talk about new RTS games now is "look how retarded we made the game, look how you don't have to click anything, look how there's no base building, no micro, no macro, no workers, no this no that".
    Absolute clownery.

  • @jonathanfavourite

Imo the pitch for this thing is baffling. Their “reimagined, future-of-rts” vision is a tug-of-war unit collector style game of the type that’s proliferated on mobile for a decade, while consistently failing on PC at the same time. Except now it comes with unit micro, which was THE ONE THING that acts as a barrier to entry for new rts players and the one thing maybe worth rethinking.
David Kim lost all credibility when he said they’re fixing the genre by removing “tedious” things like base and resource management. Their Steam page says games only last a max of 10 minutes because people these days have busy lives; really dog, you’re gonna advertise that depressing admission as your design motivation? “We made a terribly simplistic game for people who don’t have time for games anymore lol”
I want to like this, i just cant find a single redeeming thing about it. It looks bland, clearly plays bland, and the units dont have cohesive themes or designs because they’re made to be freely interchangeable. The one good thing was that animated trailer; a rare case of cinematic trailer being better and more exciting than the gameplay trailer.

@@smelogsplayground they deffo look very overwatch toy like.
The cartoony style is not something ppl enjoy. graphically.
It feels like there is no effort in making good unit designs in rts currently. Not in action paced rts atleast.
It just feels like they used the basic models lumberyard had
technically tho this game looks the best out of the new rts releases. from a mechanical pov.
personally i do like the anime vibe theyr trying to hit.
I just hope the units/map graphically actually get a huge makeover. not just small tweaks but complete overhauls so it looks more like warhammer: age of sigmar realm of ruins. quality wise.
Not this stereotypical stormgate/dva unit 'clean' style.
Cuz this is turning me off from all the recently about to release rts.
Ofc its alpha/beta and nothin is set in stone. But if i look at GTA 6 graphically, this type of game looks 20 years older.

This game will be DOA if it's anything even resembling this on release, I know it's pre beta and all that so big changes are expected but good lord, THIS is what David Kim came up with? Wow, seriously disappointing.
