Technomage 7 I used to hit up that exxon on my lunch breaks when I worked over @ Toys R Us. haha Good times. You saw the mall open ? Do you remember Caldor ? That store was great. Shame it didn't last too long there.
Pretty cool there. I worked at Chichi's over here in Boardman Ohio from 1992 to 1999 and I can definitely tell that was part of the kitchen. Awesome on this
I used to work in the old Sport Court at a Cinnfully Delicious and Bains Deli I went there this weekend just to see it. Have not seen it in over 20 years and the stores are gone.
Oh, yeah. The transformation over the past fifteen years is startling. I can't get over it. I was last there about six months ago to take my stepson to Harbor Freight and I took the long way out of the mall complex as I was mentally ticking-off the places that just weren't there anymore.
Excellent video. I believe your video is the best of its genre on RUclips. You and your son give just the right amount of running commentary on the places you visit. I know these places too, especially the Dynasty Restaurant from back in 2000-2003 or so. I wasn't aware that Chi-Chi's had burned down. To see it reduced to just a scalped foundation is fascinating and you indicated where you had sat which gave the moment some context. My wife, daughter and I used to patronize the Chi-Chi's at the Oxford Valley Mall in its 1980s heyday; the food was top-shelf back then.
TralfazConstruction Thanks for watching. Yea, my boy kinda pushes me to make videos lol. I'm not much of a talker/youtuber honestly. It sure is fun looking back at these old vids though.
Awesome video! I live less than 3 mins driving wise from there. I do have to correct you on some Phar-Mor things. I used to go there starting in 1989 and worked there from December 1996 until they closed in September 2002. So as I said, I was only only one of maybe a dozen of my co-workers "family" that closed down the store back then. It closed September 2002. That store didn't have an escalator, that was the Cottman store you were thinking of. Those steps led up to the office. Also this store didn't sell shoes there. I have been peaking in those windows every year since 2002 and everything was the same as we left it, until I looked in there 2 weeks ago and noticed alot of changes. Someone must of finally bought it because they are doing work in there now. Thank you for this video. It will be a time capsule for alot of people. I miss going there as a kid and I miss working there as a 20 year old and becoming a family with my amazing co-workers. Most of which I am still in contact with today.
Thanks for the feedback and corrections. Much appreciated. 👌 While you were working there, I was working way on the other side of the Mall @ Toy's R Us (2000-2002) Small World. Pretty cool that you were one of only a few people to close that store down. My bro worked over @ the pharmor on Cottman - I must've combined the 2 stores when retrospecting.
@@Jzs20 I'll have to watch this later. Thanks!! What we heard was that Wal-mart was killing us when they opened at Franklin Mills. I'm curious about what the video is about haha. I found your video because I'm getting so nostalgic the older I get. I miss the old days.
@@CobyBaby2021 I hear you man. I'm hitting 39 in a couple weeks - I've been feeling the same. Dusting off old videos games, listening to old cd's etc. Fun to look back sometimes.
Remember going here as a kid late 80s early 90s and it was so big and beautiful. Had everything I’ve seen so many malls fall apart. Should see what happened to hilltop mall in Richmond Ca and it’s history. Sad
Used to prank my ex girlfriend who was a hostess at Chi Chis by calling ahead for a group of 12-16 20 minutes before closing. Ah memories of high school pettiness.
You could park in that lot before. Did with coke van and ate arby in the lot. Then about a year or so ago they put that cement barrier in blocking the lot. That ground cover has been off/missing for atleast a year if not more. Almost drove van into it. Trashy like all hell.
Its ashame minority mills mall had a person killed in the food court yesturday. Last time I walked entire lenght they had at least 15 stores closed out. They chased McDonalds & Bed Bath & Beyond out due to huge rent incresed 3nyears ago. Read that 20 to 25% of malls in USA will be closed next 5 years. Thanks Amazon.
Actually the Boscovs closed and became Steve and berry’s and that’s closed around 2009 and was vacant for years and in 2013 was demolished for the new Walmart
I'm not good with dates but yea, I do recall the boscovs and steve and barry's (place sold dirt cheap clothing) I have a few pics on my blackberry of the boscovs being torn down
PhillyJosh it’s not doing too great, inside of the mall there’s a plumbing issue which causes the mall to smell terrible in some areas and the people in the mall aren’t really taking COVID-19 precautions there’s a lot of people who don’t wear mask and a few months ago people tried to riot because of what happens to George Floyd but some Men in uniform prevented them from Looting, but other then those things the mall is doing fine. (Sorry for any spelling mistakes if I made any I’m currently on mobile)
ya know, I'd be surprised if it's still is business a year from now. Covid is the nail in the coffin for retail stores... hope i'm wrong. Always dug this mall.

The Exxon got torn down recently. All left is the small store, the sign, and the payphone.
Technomage & PhillyJosh... I too worked at Toys R Us for 2 Christmas seasons in 94 and 95, then started Phar-Mor in December of 96
JCPenney is now a turn 7
A&P/Superfresh/Pathmark is now a car wash
Walmart is now a storage center Walmart moved to the old Steve & Barry’s in 2014

I hear the entire mall itself may never reopen. This Covid-19 might be the nail in the coffin for retail stores/Franklin Mills. Crazy times.
@@Jzs20 Thinking about the possibility is mind-boggling. It would have been unthinkable a decade ago.

No escalator, all the mills stores were one floor. Right outside Pharmor in the mall they had a catwalk and a stage for fashion shows
Ah ok. thanks for clearing that up. I must be confusing this for another store. (Roosevelt mall caldor possibly)

What's telling about that, to me, is that there is no money and no _interest_ in fixing it up.
Date punch out stamp on the fire extinguisher was March 1996 (expiration date/inspection date) Wow

Why Walmart closed down
Zachary Busch They moved to where Boscov's used to be and are now attached to the mall. I think that happened around 2007-2008ish.

The company President Mickey Monus embezzled money and the company went bankrupt and closed all there stores
