Not really thrifting but there used to be a clothing manufacturer outlet store in town and they had a section where they sold fabric that was the leftovers from the style runs. I bought lots of my fabric there it was really cheap. They had trims, buttons, zippers and fasteners. I found things you usually wouldn’t find at your average fabric shop. Once I went to an outlet and they had gotten some fabric in and they had nice woolen fabrics $1 a yard. I bought some of every color they had. I worked in a office and made suits for work. I bet at one time I probably had about 25-30 nice suits.
I’ve thrifted a bunch of fabric including silk that gets priced as a polyester. I found like 10 yards of this gorgeous soft black/white floral rayon. So far I’ve made my sister a basic top that speaks volumes with the nice print. Now I want one too! A second most loved/used thrifted item was a brand new, in the box, dust buster vacuum for $7 USD. Awesome tool in a sewing room with constant dust, threads and other mess.
OOOO yah! I worry if employees actually new what the fabric was, we probably wouldn't be getting ANY deals! There is one location I go to that the employees put the yardage on the tag - that place is usually a bit pricer.
A nifty trick, between your finger and your shoulder on the opposite side it's roughly 1 m (1.09 yd) like that it gives you an idea of how many meters the piece of fabric is.
I TOTALLY USE THIS KIND OF TRICK! If I pinch with the fingers of both hands and spread my "wings", I get exactly 5ft, 1in. A smidge over a meter and a half. 😁
it must be so nice to have so many nice thrift stores available. we have ONE over priced, small goodwill. on the average day they may have 1-2 dozen options in sheets/bedding/table covers/fabric. that's total, not each. of course, the requisit mismatched pillow cases and a few placemats. i've picked up a few decent pieces, but not much. some i buy just for muslins. but i won't buy the polyester crap and that is what most of it is. when i go to the city, i usually have others with me who are not interested in thrifting and if they even agree to a stop at one, i get rushed.
Ugh! That’s so sad! It also makes me think that a lot of people must be throwing things out since there is no where to donate. I am definitely lucky- 7 value villages, and a ton of other vintage and thrift stores. But I hear you- there is a lot of junk to go through. You have to really be in the mood! And it’s the worst when you feel rushed! Sounds like you need a little “me” time in the city by yourself 😊

I have a small 8 ft. measuring tape I carry in my purse all the time. It's about 50 or more years old and it's metal and round as opposed to most that are square, about as big around as a silver dollar and about 1\2 inch thick, and takes up very little space in my purse. It has come in handy so many times.
Good god. No wonder you find so much awesome stuff. Your thrift stores organize the books by category?? There’s a pattern section?! I’ve never seen such organization before 😭
I feel like you are my lost (and much younger) twin. I have to agree with almost everything you said in today's video except I don't thrift alone. Often I go with my daughter. We both wander the stores, taking our time. There is a new large Value Village opening near me soon.🤗 It's in part of an old Zellers store. I am so excited.
Aww!! I love that! I should have said in the video- my mom is the only person I thrift with regularly! We don’t live in the same city, but we do a big thrift day every month-two months! Wow! That’s going to be a big one! Zellers always had big stores! So exciting!
I'm one who goes to the jewelry 1st, books & magazines, crafting/fabric, kitchen/household, then shoes/clothes/purses. I find so much awesome stuff that way for my interests. Best fabric buy ever was medium-weight & medium blue chambray (full bolt) for $7 on 50% off sale. Sat there for over a month before I finally grabbed it! Best jewelry ever was a Larimar pendant for $5 at 50% off. Looked up brand & an exact copy of it was $250!!!! Don't ever feel you are robbing them. Prices keep going up & sales get smaller & less frequent. Meanwhile, if you don't carefully watch the cashier/check your receipt they charge you for stuff you didn't buy or get. Last 2 times @ Salvation Army they charged me for $5 & $7 of unbought items. I think once I fill my Shoppers Card, I'm no longer going there. Used to love them & their sales. No longer!!!

Hi from Ontario ..I just found you, randomly came up on my feed ...you are fun, great post ..I've subscribed and am going to see what else you have posted
I enjoyed this video so much. I adore the thrill of the hunt with thrifting and I don't have any thrifty friends, so this was so fun to watch. You pretty much described my thrifting method to a T. I go in and put everything I like in the "maybe pile" until I can find a relatively quiet corner and sort. Your stores look so great! My best finds so far are my sewing machine (a computerized sewing/ embroidery machine for only $50!! 😁👍), About 20 yards of gorgeous silk from a set of curtains, and a set of sewing books with separate patterns for victorian/Edwardian things that were signed by the author. Nothing beats the feeling of a good find, lol! Thanks for taking us along. I can't wait to see your haul!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Aw! Thanks Stephanie!! Omg what great finds!! I’ve seen a few machines, but none that looked in very good condition! I’m so jealous! I would love an embroidery machine! And 20 yards 🙀 of silk!! Amazing!! I feel like it might be the best to go alone, if you have similar tastes there might be even more competition 😅
I, too, love thrifting. I couldn't afford my varias proclivities if I didn't thrift. My vintage camera collection is 90% thrifted. I have bought some used sheets and fabric for different projects. Also, my Nerf collection is 90% or so thrifted.
I agree put stuff back where you got it from. That is so tacky when people just put stuff they don’t want in place it doesn’t belong. It would be better if they just left in the cart and gave back to the cashier so they can put it in their sorting carts if the are to lazy or don’t remember where they got it from.

Not like going back to College, the science books or chemistry and math books costs over $200+ once your done it's doesn't worth anything anymore not a keeper but fashions books is a good inspiration and ideals.
Ooof! I had an English Lit textbook that was 900!! I know! It was brutal! And they come out with a new “edition” every year by only shuffling around a few chapters and adding a new case study that you can find on the internet! Such a scam!
Nice hauls! I thought mounting the camera on the cart was smart. I would definitely feel self conscious filming in a store too, but you probably get less self-conscious the more often you do it?
I just try to think about it if I saw someone doing it. I wouldn't care. So, most people probably don't either! I just make sure the camera is pointed lower to avoid faces as best I can. I still use my phone, I'm hoping to get a camera soon - so the phone isn't as conspicuous, but the tripod probably gave it away 😂
Really? No one noticed how you’ve named “your man” in your phone? Also, the camera work in this video is soooooo good. You must have a great camera person assisting you
@@whatssewingon3511 I'm a bit of a bibliophile myself... it's fairly common for me to give random books the ol' Biden pet n' sniff 👃🏽 I AM SO SORRY IT WAS HILARIOUS IN MY HEAD!!.
Thrifting things is sometimes go and bad, the good is name brands and the bad is spirits attach things. For examples these are belongs to some jealous heart person or someone got murdered.
I don’t like Value Village. They get everything donated, they do very little for charities and their prices are ridiculously expensive. Please consider donating to a truly worthy thrift store and shop at those as well.
You did not ask that person if you could film them and put them up on the internet. That store is NOT publicly owned. It is privately owned. So, it is ILLEGAL TO FILM SOMEONE WITHOUT THERE PERMISSION ON ANYONE'S PRIVET PROPERTY WITHOUT THEIR KNOWLEDGE AND THE CONCENT OF THE OWNER OF THE PROPERTY! Also, even if they were on public property. IT IS ILLEGAL TO FILM THEM OR TAKE PICTURES OF THEM AND POST THEM UP ON THE INTERNET WITHOUT THEIR PERMISSION. And the whole "freedom of speech" thing does not actually include filming people or taking their pictures and posting them up all over the internet. It LITERALLY only protects one's right to exspress THEIR OPINIONS AND SPEAK OUT WITHOUT THE GOVERNMENT SHUTTING THEM DOWN FOR IT. That is it. Nothing else. These are the laws and you can go look them up or talk to an attorney if you want. I recommend that you do though as now that person has the LEGAL RIGHT to sue you! I understand you are a RUclips influencer. However, that does not give you the right to put people in your videos without their consent. Regardless if you can see their faces or not. It also shows how self absorbed you are that you would use someone without their knowledge for views. Please be more respectful of others and not put people in your videos without their consent. Also, make sure to ask the OWNERS (not the managers or workers as they actually do not hold the legal right to make such decisions for the owner contrary to what people want to believe) of the stores for permission to film in their stores (by the way parking lots are also privately owned by the store owners.) and let others know you are filming and ask them if it is ok to post them up on your channel. If you do not get permission they can not only ban you from returning (it HAS happened before.) but they CAN ALSO LEGALLY SUE YOU. So, other than your self absorbed influencer behavior...... nice haul.

I WISH we had better thrift stores here in the UK. I loooove whenever you post ❤ love your channel so so much
Aww thank you so much!! I wonder where it all goes??
If you have a princess auto near you, check there for cutting mats. I got a 36 x 24 inch one there on sale for under $20 just last week. They are really thick and good quality!
I HAD NO IDEA THEY SELL THESE!!! I just assumed "auto" you know?? I'll check this out for sure. thank you!
Did I hear another Hanson fan? Also that blue fabric was gorgeous
Hahaha yes you did!! Huge fan over here!! I’m so excited about it! I’ll show it in the next video for sure
Did you get that green knit fabric? Lovely!!! I like your shopping tips!
You mean the long heavy tube that almost knocked me over? I did!! Why is it a tube???!
@@whatssewingon3511 Yes!! love it. I have purchased knit fabric like that from FabricMart. I guess it is the way it is knitted or made, you can always cut what you need. Looks like you found some quality fabric! love thrifting!
Hi I’m a new subscriber and I love your channel! Very inspiring. Would you consider doing a book tour of your books? Fellow sewing reader here 🤗
Thank you and welcome!! I’ve been asked before, so I should plan something!
Love the dress your wearing. Can you share the pattern name with us? Your videos are super cute!
Thank you! It’s actually thrifted, I didn’t make this one 🥰
I LOVE VV (“Savers” here in NH, USA)
I’ve bought such a ridiculous amount of fabric and got a vintage sewing machine for $6!
Also I love your bloopers! I am preparing to start my own channel and I always feel so much encouragement by watching people have been doing it for a while I have trouble getting their words out because then I don’t feel so self-conscious about my practice runs!
Yes! Savers! Maybe if we can ever cross the border again, I’ll have to go compare them! I also really want to check out a joanns! And a $6 sewing machine is crazy! What a find!!
And congrats on a channel! It took a bit to get comfortable- I still get nervous, but it’s only been a year! Can’t wait to check yours out!
Which and state are you in? Here in Birmingham Alabama there almost nothing!!
Anyone want to yell, “Go back and get that pattern!” at 7:30? Lol
I have kids in my life who would love that top!
I didn't end up getting any of them.. Hopefully they found a good home!
Etsy have that book Patten of Fashion 3 by Janet Arnold $145 now
I’ve been looking, it’s more of a nice to have but not a need at this point! But I will keep that in mind! Thank you!
Really? No one noticed how you’ve named “your man” in your phone? Also, the camera work in this video is soooooo good. You must have a great camera person assisting you
Tripods are super handy!
Hanson!!! :)
Location of VV? What city? It’s huge
Where did you find a man that reads???? 😫 Envy so hard right now!
I just showed him this comment and he said “You mentioned me? I’m famous” 😅😅 and yes! We’re both big readers!
@@whatssewingon3511 I'm a bit of a bibliophile myself... it's fairly common for me to give random books the ol' Biden pet n' sniff 👃🏽
I AM SO SORRY IT WAS HILARIOUS IN MY HEAD!!.
Thrifting things is sometimes go and bad, the good is name brands and the bad is spirits attach things. For examples these are belongs to some jealous heart person or someone got murdered.
That’s true, but I’m sure lots of items have a lot of happy memories attached too!
Measure the length of your arm. Then you always have a tape measure.
So, other than your self absorbed influencer behavior...... nice haul.
What a waste of time!
