    40 now, and everything is paid for. Fortunately, I had a college economics teacher who taught me a lesson when I was 18 years old. That lesson was: you can't buy something else for every purchase you make. Having multiple sources of income is prudent, as is living within your means. I have a 13-year-old vehicle because it is all I need, I like it, and I can do whatever I want with it. My net worth is $4 million, and I can pay my bills without stress, but I don't live like I have that. I have no complaints.

      Vey accurate from your POV, It really isn’t about how much you save, it’s about how you manage your money. Whether you work to earn income or invest, it still boils down to income vs expenses, so yeah you may look into investment advisors for a strategy that suits your goals

Unlike you I don’t feel sunshine and rainbows crunching numbers. But it is necessary to not live paycheck to paycheck and having a healthy relationship with money. Thank you so much for making this so simple and relatable . I see you take on the Dave Ramsey approach to finances which has kept me on track in past and I returning to it from this year forward. She played a pivotal role in helping me improve my financial situation. Previously, I relied solely on my job and salary for income, but now I have found ways to generate additional income with ease, which has allowed me to leave traditional employment. I think there is a disconnect in budgeting on paper versus reality. I’ll think there is a certain budget for something but when I swipe a card or purchase online, it can be easy to think you’re on budget until the end of the month. I am removing my credit card from Amazon and linking my debit card. I also have a card only used for groceries. Do you have any other similar tips to bridge the gap of what technically works on paper and how to apply that in real life?

    • @SydRichi
      @SydRichi  Год назад

      I try to minimize any disconnect as much as possible and make the budget reflect real life habits while also working toward money goals. After every purchase we make, the budget is updated to see where that category stands: Overspending in that area? Underspending? Depending on that, I'll adjust the budget--we can probably underspend somewhere else to help. I update/check the budget pretty often throughout a month.
      I'm also a huge fan of credit cards! I treat them like debit cards, so that helps with my spending behavior when using them.

    You missed a lot of the power of the debt snowball spreadsheet. The only thing I modify on the sheet is, after the debt is paid off I tally all my payments and modify the original starting amount (principal + interest). This is because the interest calculation is not perfect for revolving credit lines due to days of month etc. (it works perfectly for a static debt like mortgage).
    You can use the schedule tab to see how much faster you can pay off if you can add a little more to your snowball that month. I hope users make more use of the spreadsheet.

    Thank you so much for the budget spreadsheet suggestion. I don't have a lot of debt, but I found it useful to see where all my money goes each month. 😊

    I can’t thank you enough for this step by step video. I plan on implementing these strategies when I get my next paycheck. I like the zero based budget as well.

    Good for you Syd. Another fellow known as Caleb helps folks in their 20's budget and when he sees the mess they are in it is so heartbreaking. They have Student Loan Debts, Max Out Credit Cards, spend more than they make, want to keep up with the Joneses. For me I buy what I "Need" not what I "Want'. My only weakness is Dollar Type Stores or Amazon but I never spend if I don't have it
