Love this time of year on your channel. Next tailor vid can you give us a quick look at how you’ve got your rod holder set up. Looking forward to more tailor vids mate cheers
As an ex Victorian, I am amazed how frowned upon Sharks are in Queensland. No wonder there are so many sharks in Queensland, everyone throws them back 😂. Gummy is definitely the best choice, but nothing wrong with a whaler or reef sharks. One great tip I’ve picked up, is soak the flesh in milk for 24 hours. Gets rid of the smell and makes the meat more tender. Great vid as usual 🤙🏼
I was thinking the same thing we are from Gippsland and just moved to brissy last year, you thro a shark like that back in western port you’ll get the book thrown at you 🤣🤣
sammy, next time get a mixing bowl of water with a tablespoon or two of vinegar in it, soak bronzies, big schoolies or big gummy fillets for 20 minutes to half hour, then dab it dry with paper towel and cover in flour and dipp in egg, then crumb with crushed down salt and vinegar chips, then shallow fry .guarantee u wont beat it! the vinegar and water gets rid of excess mercury. shauno will be giving u hell for that cook up sammy lol
Shark tastes great and plenty of them in Qld. Quiet an interesting way to fillet it, great idea really. I find they blunten the knife real quick so I use a steel throughout it. Also I've served it up as 'chicken' nuggets and the kids had no idea! 😂😂
Totally recommend small hammer head shark if you ever catch one. But I use to catch 1 meter bull sharks in Moreton Bay and still pretty damn good. Fantastic in fish curry
Hey mate best thing for shark as soon as soon as you have dispatched it slice its tail off and all its fins and put it head first in the sand to bleed it good and proper.
I always keep a shark or 2 for a feed when I’m at sea but to bleed them properly cut the tale off straight away and you won’t get any blood running up the skin.
Good on you Sammy, love a good beach sesh. I have been eating shovel nose rays for years and the whole family loves them. I prepare them as nuggets in panko crumbs, it's just moist and tastier chicken really.
Mark from Nevada a bit aways . Fishing from shore and several rods you need some clip on bells to put near the tip. You might find this helpful. And tie off the fishing pole to another stake. Love watching your videos.
Great stuff mate, and nice job on grabbing the second rod too haha. I lived on those noodles when i was a student, i reckon thr brisket might have pulled the water temperature down a bit too. I used to drop boiled eggs in them after the noods were cooked for a bit more bulk too
Soak your shark in milk for 20 minutes. Change milk and resoak the shark for further 20 minutes sammy. Milk draws out the ammonium plus tenderise and add sweetness to the shark. Try it out and let me know your thoughts sammy.
Great episode Sammy! Enjoyed it a lot... Same thing happened to me on the beach a month ago almost losing a rod. The outcome was the same. A little shark. Bit of a bummer i gave it away to another bloke on the beach.
Pro tip with the shark do not throw out the belly flaps they are great for homemade fish fingers cut into fingers egg wash and crumb fry in pan with butter and hands down the best fish fingers you will ever have 👌
Such as epic video and I loved every bit of it, I do abit of beach fishing here in North Queensland… we mainly target school mackerel in winter and black tip reef sharks in the summer, but seeing new species that we don’t get up here caught beach fishing was awesome, loved this mate so keep them coming, p.s could you do a beach session on the jewfish by any chance?
mate I had some of the most insane seshs on tailor the past month, more than I've ever seen in my area on the north coast. something about the water temp this year staying consistent seems to have brought literally millions of fish around, most of them undersize but good fun on spinning tackle. I hooked a monster bronzie (maybe even a white pointer) that spooled me clean out behind the back breakers - I hooked it no more than 10m from me at low tide at night but could see its dorsal sticking out of the water as it swam out of the gutter along a sandbank, would've been very near to 9ft. Still haven't managed a jewie but the way the year is turning out I shouldn't have to wait long haha. best of luck with your winter species anyway, if I'm not catching them you will be haha cheers
Jeez that’s pretty crazy about the shark! Lucky you didn’t Wade out further! Hopefully those tailor all get nice and fat and big over the next few months 💪💪
Got a few small whaler or dusky sharks at the port of Bundy a month or so ago and they cooked up awesome planning to go back and try bag a few more soon
Sammy what's your method for preparing the shark. Both times iv caught shark it has made me really sick.. first one was a very small mako and the second was a small gummy... both tasted absolutely amazing however the following days I had very bad stomach cramps and my butt responded in kind....
Loved that beach fishing video Sam it’s the best way to fish. That shark would have been lovely eating. Would circle hooks on your lures work better than trebles? I don’t know.😊
Great stuff mate. Chewed on some Bronzey a while ago and it was delicious. Well familiar with Gummy having grown up on King Island in Bass STRAIT, but had never tried anything with pointy teeth ha ha.
I regularly spin for tailor and have found that for those surecatch knight type lures, adding an extra split ring or two can help decrease the drop rate. Alternatively, switching to a single with kevlar works great and I've had no trouble with teeth or hookup rate.
Do you eat them? We call them bluefish and her in the northeast they taste like absolute shit. They feed on the nastiest bait fish which I believe makes them taste disgusting. People in Florida say they don’t taste that bad so I’m guessing the diet of the fish must mean a lot when it comes to taste.
Yeah mate I have a bit of a system that usually works really well. Just one of those days that trip! And Marcus, our tailor (bluefish) are great eating 👌👌
@@SammyHitzkeFishing one thing I have noticed is the flesh looks the same. It has they grey tent to it. Is it also really soft? If so that’s another reason I don’t like bluefish/Taylor. Over her they are soft, grey and very oily tasting. My friend is a commercial fishermen and sometimes gets them as by catch and he said they only get 1$ 1.25$ a pound if their lucky. That’s how shity tasting they are.
G'day Sammy. Good beach session. Remember a year or so ago, I suggested you try the green eye shark... Same deal, good tucker and too good to waste from a deep drop.
Try the self heating instant noodles. No need for a hot water source . Great for the beach. Not as big as that bucket ya have there but pretty good on a cool night.
Just picked my brand new forester and part of the reason I changed my car was to do exactly that, beach fishing. I've fished many different types of fishing but never beach fishing so I'm really eager to try but little apprehensive coz never did any 4wd etc n little worried I might get bogged..! Awesome video Sam.!
Great job Sammy, I had a couple of pommie friends holidaying with us on Russell Island and their daughter wouldn't eat any of the fish we caught, so I got her to try some flake, she didn't leave any for us. It is a great tasting fish, specially in a "Larry" beer batter🤣
Sammy, great vid ..love the beach and bycatch stuff :) ..my favorite type of fishing. Question if I may, the bait fishing rod you are using is a .....???? thx G
One thing ive always pondered, for all you surf guys, where do you fall on the parabolic vs fast actions for your rods? Ive come to the conclusion that the faster action and more graphite or carbon heavy rods I get, the further I cast, but I end up ripping the hooks out of the baits more often
I think the fish he drops here is a good example of what not to do. Don't try to skull drag them and don't yank them in when they reach the shore.... you have to play the fish more when using a fast action rod.
You just have to find a rod that’s a nice balance of both. And in all honesty there is probably 2 or 3 fish that I was just trying to rush and flick up the beach which you shouldn’t done, but also tailor love to shake hooks when they jump and fight. I lost just as many early in the fight from that happening 🍻🍻
@@SammyHitzkeFishing more so for bleeding. Used to hold the hose on the centre of the tail and it used to flush the blood out and clear it out completely. Tail also holds a bit of ammonia so best to get it gone too.

Great video Sammy. Loving the solo beach trip. Do we get to find out the secret to the smoked brisket in the future? Keep up the good work.
That was awesome watching man, so funny that other rod going off while ya chatting to the camera 😂

Onya Sammy. Great format, perfectly timed. Ssshhhh about the flake, geez. Cheers.
Hahah thanks mate! Plenty of flake out there for everyone! 😉👌👌
The belly flaps are the best bit. Remove them skin them and just roll in flour and garlic powder salt and pepper and fry to golden. Yummmmmmmmmmmm
Yeah I got them off, haven’t tried them yet though 👌👌
@@SammyHitzkeFishing I was watching an old eppisode where you got done by Barracuda. Have you ever tried them as a troll bait for Mackeral

Cracker Sammy! Would love to see a few more vids on cleaning and filleting sharks though, no idea where to start either! 😂
Haha I’ll get a bit better at it first! That was my first go 🤷♂️🤷♂️
my favorite eating fish here in nz is the spotted smooth hound or gummy shark easy to fillet and tastes great
Same here in England, smoothound and spurdogs, largely overlooked by most anglers as fish for tbe table but really delicious.
Nice one mate! Definitely going to be exploring it more 👌👌
