You're such a blessed craftsman, innovator and an artist. Don't worry, designs can be improved along the way for it to be ergonomic. I hope for your continuous success and I hope you and Kana are both safe and healthy 🌿❣️
After years of watching you paint, I finally pulled the trigger on an iPad Pro for procreate and now you're making me feel like I need to buy keyboard parts.. thanks for the great vids as usual!
The iPad Pro is amazing you won’t regret it. You definitely don’t need a custom keyboard, but if you use a desktop a lot it’s so worth it and on some you can make 100% custom profiles.
19$ Microsoft number pad, you can fully customize all the buttons on your Pc with mouse and keyboard center and thn use it on your Ipad with any app you wan. Best value and versatility. 10/10 . Give me a like if i helped you out :)
oooh this is great! I was looking into a programmable mechanical numpad to reprogram for macro use but this pcb has more keys AND the Kailh low-profile ones! Really nice! only issue I've found with Kailh Choc is the low versatility of keycaps but this turned out great! Also, love that you attached the rubber feet directly to the PCB without a case - bare pcb looks SO COOL! Will attempt to build something like this, thank you ^_^
Stumbled upon your RUclips and I’m so excited to learn this is possible! I’m getting my partner to make me one after being inspired by this video, thanks for sharing Mateusz!
And then there's me, who never got my hands on an Ipad nor a tablet (which I wish I had and plan to invest on one to speed painting process), and you managed to speed up the already sped method to draw xD I'm depressed but proud of you though! Big fan, love your work!
I wish procreate team would implement updates for that. I can already use my Logitech keyboard with ArtStudio on iPad. So I use procreate for simple sketches and concepts and ArtStudio for digital painting.
Serendipity! I just bought an iPad this month and I've been wishing for something like this to use Procreate. I didn't know there were keyboard shortcuts! So I think I'll definitely give this a go. Thanks for the cool tutorial, Matt!!
That is awesome! I’m left handed so there shouldn’t be much problem for me to make one that suits me. Thanks for sharing this.....was always wanting a custom keypad for ProCreate!!
just got a copy of the Tokyo at night Japanese copy :) was waiting for the Chinese copy but cannot wait anymore. the book is amazing, i really like the way how you paint reflections. if you are going to expend this series in the future please try to paint a river at night! it would be an enjoyable piece to look at and a great learning materials for your fan students like me :) if possible please do a snow piece too, will be interesting
haha that is awesome. fun to see another keyboard nerd :) I use a programmable editor and I love it, no special keyboard needed to make any key do what I want it to do. Coming from that, I find it constantly frustrating that this kind of functionality is not common in software. The fact that a drawing program ever makes you hold a modifier key to do something makes no sense either. It is impressive you could make that so affordably. I think if someone orders online it will end up costing twice as much. Lucky to have a cool shop like that near you.
I've used Adafruit's MacroPad RP2040 to make a 12-key macro keyboard for photoshop. There's a display and rotary knob with push switch so you should be able to code (in python) an animator's stopwatch into it as well.
This is something I wanted for a long time! Before seeing this I thought if reconfiguring an Apple Magic trackpad 2 is possible for each different square centimeter to act as a different key cap. Second thought - I'm currently using a Razer Orbweaver Chroma for Photoshop shortcuts and macros. Maybe it is possible to reconfigure this too for iOS iPad? Your solution is awesome (y) Thank You for brightening my day :)
If this requires configuration on the OS side then probably you can't use it. If you can program it so it behave like you want even on a different machine then it should work 👍
Hi! Is there a screen protector you would recommend for the ipad that's good for drawing but also editing photos? Do you use any protector at all? Thanks!

I'm really curious about the wireless and bluetooth upgrades. Are you planning to make a video on this? if not, would you care to share the details of what you tried / did? Thanks!
I've just built my own Macropad keyboard (RoMac) and have plugged it into the computer, configured in QMK and working fine. But I cannot get it to work with my iPad Pro (2017). Are you using a USB-C to Lightning cable or is there some other cable configuration behind the scenes?
@@mattjabbar thanks for the reply! I didn’t realise the newer iPad Pro had a USB-C port so that might be where I’ve gone wrong. I’ve ordered a ‘Camera Adapter’ hopefully that’ll do the trick 😊
This is very interesting. I use an old Belkin nostromo for my PC digital art and I find myself missing the macros on my iPad. I know basic soldering and I like DIY stuff so I might make this a future project. I do have a Bluetooth keyboard though... I wonder if there's a way to program macros on that as well for the iPad?
Yes, you can define macros and even make macron on the fly (still looking into that) but you have to use the QMK as a command-line tool (not so difficult actually). More here: docs.qmk.fm/#/feature_macros

The iPad doesn't have to be attached to the computer. This works just like a regular USB (or bluetooth) keyboard just with fever keys ;) And yes, this can be also used with a computer for Photoshop for example. But on the computer you have the option to re-map your keys on the computer side so you don't have to build your custom keyboard - you can use any small keyboard for this.
why doesn't this product exist? I hate having to use full size keyboard for shortcuts, I always accidentally press the wrong buttons. Customizable shortcut pad should be a total no brainer...
Yes, even though I don't paint in PS so much now. The shortcuts are more or less the same I just use SPACE, Z (for zoom) and V for choosing stuff additionally.

@@mattjabbar Yeah I think that might be a good solution for attaching the keybaord. I'm thinking about how you would maintain grip of the ipad when you are reaching for hotkeys. Maybe a wrist strap or something?
How can I configure it for the iPad Pro? I did make the firmware and it works in my pc, but it's not working when I connect it to the tablet and the version of QMK you showed isn't the same as the one google shows (config.qmk.fm/)
This isn't what I'm looking for. I need to assign specific keys for zoom in and out and rotate... Pinching it makes me dizzy and it is not as accurate. I guess that doesn't exist yet in procreate?

I have a battery holder for two coin batteries yushakobo.jp/shop/ble-micro-pro-battery-board/ this will go on top of the controller.

Look for RUclips tutorials about how to use the "QMK Configurator" - it's the main tool I use for configuring mine 👍
What if I want a wheel scroller for changing brush sizes?
You can make a custom keyboard with a knob - there are a lot of designs available online 👍

Mark Winn it’s just a momentary push button. Any one of the right size will do.

Is there a way to make a Bluetooth version
Yes. The version I’m using now is Bluetooth LE you just have to use a proper controller as I said in the video.
🙀🙀🙀 I thought this video will be kidding. Hehe
Did you also made your ipad stand?
It's just sitting on my watercolor's box ;)
Cool :)
Cool idea but can we somehow use Xbox controller ?
Don’t think it can be done - especially in Procreate where you can’t customize shortcuts.
@@mattjabbar thank you for the response . Looks like I gotta dump the controller haha.
What did you do for the redo key?
It depends on the app but most of the times it's something like "Shift+Cmd+Z" and you can program that to one key on a keyboard like this. 👍
@@mattjabbar Thank you, I made one and it works perfect other than redo in procreate. I just got it working though, thank you!

height :)
also the type of the switches, but other than that they idea behind them is the same 👍
