I had a Great Pyrenees in California central valley. It can get up to 115 F. I never shaved her. She was cool despite the heat. Her double coat protected her. DON"T SHAVE YOUR PYRENEES.

If your dog is doble coat you might not want to shave him/her. Some breeds are made for extreme weather conditions and their coats work as an insulation to keep them cool or warm depending on the weather. You might want to do some additional research. Spitz breeds for example, have the main two veins close to each other so that they can expand or contract according to the weather in order to keep them cool or warm. Same happens with their fur. I learned this from a veterinarian convention we did translations for. Just FYI

If it's a double coat breed DO NOT SHAVE THAT COAT It is insulation from cold AND HEAT! The dog will be exposed to sun burns and won't be able to regulate it's body temperature like it was *made to*. Please, please, PLEASE do NOT SHAVE. You can research into how coats work on thick and double coated dogs. There are livestock guardian dogs with very dense coats (like Anatolians, Caucasian Ovcharka, etc) that are MADE to guard flocks in very hot African and South American climates.

My guess is still a st Bernard but if it is a double coated breed like that please don't shave it. If you shave a double coated breed the hair doesn't grow back the same and doesn't let them regulate their temperature. It sounds counterintuitive but the thick double cost actually cools them off, during the summer the outer guard hairs repeal heat and the undercoat keeps the cool air in and during the winter the guard hairs repeal cold and the thicker undercoat keeps the year in. I would suggest you do some more research about this so you can see exactly why you shouldn't shave them.

Pyrenees or Newfoundland, both beautiful dogs. My friends have both breeds and they are so loving, big but loving, even around babies. I'm excited to see and watch. Thank you all for lovely videos.
