Truth is alot of these kids from Pennsylvania chose Iowa over Penn state and that's a big problem for Cael...There isn't much he can do because alot of the guys are from the "Young Guns" wrestling club which has tight ties with Iowa because of who runs it
And yet penn state still wins
There's enough Pennsy high school talent to spread far and wide. Its the premier high school wrestling state in the country. Spencer Lee chose Iowa after Suriano was already committed to PSU. You could make the argument he ducked the competition. 5 of Iowa's starters are PA kids. Some of them have matured and developed as wrestlers while at Iowa. They possibly weren't offered by PSU, but have still developed into damned good college wrestlers. Kemerer looks awesome at 74, but when he was at 157 Nolf (another PA kid) owned him.

I mean a lot of that is due to the stripmatters absolutely destroying it at young guns and being a great influence to these kids
If you want to train and work hard 3 months out of the year, well, then, Penn State is a great place to go. If you want to bust your tail 6 months out of the year, you should be very happy at Northern Iowa.. If you want to work hard for 9 months, go to Iowa State. *But if you want to train like a warrior, develop into a champion and work 12 months out of the year. Then Iowa is the place for you*

Notice the difference in videos between PSU and Iowa, PSU wrestling is about fun and wrestling. Iowa wrestling is about the Title. PSU does it right, Iowa doesn't.
Nothing in this video says Iowa doesn't have fun. The're both awesome and good for the sport. I love watching top notch wrestling. In that category, they deliver 👌🏻

There are only ten scholarships available each season. Some of those kids are under financial duress and can’t just be content maybe getting 1/5 of a scholarship just to be the back up to Nolf when they can go to North Carolina and get 7/10 of a scholarship.
I wish Cael Sanderson had remained at Iowa State... Probably 20% of PA State wrestlers are from other states...
In an interview, Spencer Lee's dad said that one of the factors on him going to Iowa was that Iowa's coaching staff was the only staff he met with that didn't have anything bad to say about another program. Very telling of that school in his home state of Pennsylvania.
They did win, but it was the most embarrassing NCCA championship ever. 1 championship with a stacked team while Penn State had 4 national champions in their rebuilding year.
