  • I didn’t even know what rose hips were until I moved to England. Now I’m making syrup out of them! But it’s so good, and a great source of antioxidants and Vitamin C. They’re going to be great Christmas presents, I’ve just got to finish juicing the rest of them now…

    When it says to strain twice it means to strain the liquid twice not put the pulp back into the strainer. Then there wont be pieces in the final product

    Twice strained means you strain the fruit, then strain the JUICE, after its all been collected from the fruit. Just a handy tip for a less cloudy end product! 👍

    • @itzel1735
      @itzel1735 Год назад +1

      Species roses, like Rosa rugosa or rambler roses usually have the biggest reddest hips. There are many cultivars of rugosa that will grow well in your area. They are very hardy, but also very thorny and only bloom once. You also have to NOT deadhead, otherwise you are cutting off the fruit of the rose which are the hips. The dried hips make a nice herbal tea too.

    Never worked with Rosehips, but have heard about it. Have made Crab apple Jelly and love it. Never had Rose hips though. This truly sounds very good.
    Th rose hips remind me of the grapevines or roses and how they can seem to attack. I have always told my husband that if I stood still near a grapevine they would just take me over! That is how you feel. You are stuck and cannot get lose and they own you! lol
    Thank you for adding so much to our day and the teaching you do here plus the sharing and enjoyment we receive cannot be forgotten. You give so much of yourself and we thank you and the whole family at Mapperton.

      You can’t do that at home, the seeds need to be cold pressed using industrial equipment as the oil is from the seeds, not the flesh of the hip.

    • @itzel1735
      @itzel1735 Год назад

      @@AmericanViscountess There is rose hip infused oil, where the base oil is olive oil or jojoba, and then rose hip oil extracted from the seeds. Two different end products.

    You also need to leave some rosehips for all the wild birds, remember it doesnt just belong to humans, its an essential food for wildlife to consume. Birds love the seeds from the rose hips. I appreciate these hips you are using are on your property but i still feel to be fair .....leave some out there.

    I would like to make rosehip syrup using rosehip juice from concentrate, so that it is similar to the lovely Delrosa syrup I had as a child. Is it just a matter of making a syrup from sugar and water and adding juice to the syrup?
