@trueblueaddictor What version of Elements are you using? To get rid of the color on the face you have to use the Layer Mask. It has to be activated (that means just click on it) and then paint with black to bring the underlying layer color back. Rich
It means press and hold the the Ctrl key then press the I key. That will cause the Layer Mask to be inverted. If you are using a Mac then the keystrokes are Cmd and I. Rich
@riberg yeah, if you are an XMen fan, she is in the newest one, she is also in Bridesmadees, ect. i havent seen many of her movies, but she is soooo prettyyy
@tiiktokk When you say doing the hair do you mean selecting the hair? If so then the next step is to promote the selected hair to a new layer and then add a hue and saturation adjustment. Rich
+Jaibae J First make sure you have set the color on the Adjustment Layer that you want. Next make sure you have the Layer Mask on the Adjustment Layer selected, look for the blue outline around the layer mask. Make sure the Layer Mask is in Black and that your paint brush is set to White, then paint White on the Black Layer Mask. Basic concept Black hides the effect, White shows the effect, and any gray value will partially show the effect the darker the gray the less the effect the lighter the gray the more the effect.
@jazzygirl3699 What box is that? If you mean the Layer Mask then press the Ctrl-I keys to invert the layer mask (this will change it from white to black). Rich
LOL--I hope it sticks soon. haha I can get to step 3 and then it all goes out the window! I have a problem remembering the steps with the layers--why must layers be so tricky. Good thin I have alot of hair! =D Thank you Rich.
That is probably because the Layer Mask was not selected. Click on the Layer Mask so there is a little line around it and then Ctrl-I to invert the Layer Mask. Try that - should work.
@riberg i was actually wondering, though, how do you change it to a more natural color though? Because i wanted to change Stefani Germanotta's (GaGa) wig color to brown... :)
Just re-read your earlier comment - if you're using a Windows machine then hit Ctrl-I. If you're using a Mac then hit Cmd-I. That will cause the Layer Mask (as long as it is selected) to change from white to black. Rich
I have elements 8 and did all the steps you said to do, and yet when I go to use my brush on the hair, nothing happened. Can you tell me what I am doing wrong?
Hi OLiver - if you used a Hue and Saturation Adjustment Layer then there absolutely has to be a Layer Mask. It i just part of the Adjustment layer. Check what you've done or go to my site at the-graphics-tablet and follow the written instructions. Rich
Oops - the layer mask will turn black so you have to paint with white using the paintbrush tool to bring back the new hair color. That should work! Rich
I think it is because you are painting on the layer mask with black as the foreground color. The foreground color should be white and I didn't make that really clear in the video - sorry. Rich
@jedisponge16 My guess is that you are working on the layer mask and are painting with the wrong color. If you are painting black and nothing happens then hit the X key and paint with white - and vice versa. Rich
Give it a try - but remember that black hair, especially jet black with very little texture can be tough. Let me know if you have problems and I'll try to help out. Rich
@rebeccaiovanna Ya - you can alter and modify pretty much anything with Elements. Photoshop is the superior product and the most expensive by far. You can probably do pretty much anything you want to do with Elements. Rich
I really had no idea who she was as I downloaded the picture free from stock exchange. Actress, I'm guessing - maybe a model - could Google her (although it sounds unseemly). Rich
I like the way you go through the details of all your tutorials.Very easy to learn and tounderstand.Thank you.I am saving money going to school lol.

So glad you found it useful ...!
Rich
If you mean the Pen Tool that makes Bezier Curves then it is not available in Photoshop Elements - only in the full version of Phtoshop.
Rich
It will stick in your head - just keep going!
Rich
@riberg yeah, if you are an XMen fan, she is in the newest one, she is also in Bridesmadees, ect. i havent seen many of her movies, but she is soooo prettyyy
Thank you. Good tutorial.
is it possible to alter body parts and everything with this product? and also would you recommend getting photoshop or adobe photoshop elements??
That is brilliant.. thanks for the video..
@tiiktokk When you say doing the hair do you mean selecting the hair? If so then the next step is to promote the selected hair to a new layer and then add a hue and saturation adjustment.
Rich
I did everything up to Ctrl I then when I tried colouring nothing happened. Any ideas why?
You're very good man... Thank you
I did everything you did but when I go to brush the hair to like paint it it does nothing.

Glad you found it helpful ...

Jessica Alba is beautiful even with green hair! did find it new and useful--but jessica looks best with her brown hair and brown eyes!
LOL--I hope it sticks soon. haha I can get to step 3 and then it all goes out the window! I have a problem remembering the steps with the layers--why must layers be so tricky. Good thin I have alot of hair! =D Thank you Rich.
Is that about 2:20 into the video? If so then make sure the Layer Mask is black and the foreground color is white
You're welcome and glad it helped ...
Rich

Make sure the Layer Mask is selected (click on it). Hit Ctrl-I to remove all the color *the Layer
@trueblueaddictor Excellent ....
R
I got that far but when I select a brush and start painting as you did nothing happened.

Ok, thank you. :)
Hmmm - probably best to start over again ...
Rich
thanks
@riberg It's Jessica Alba isn't it? :)
Good.
Rich
Photoshop version ?
It's not full Photoshop, it's Photoshop Elements. Probably version 9 - maybe. This will work with the recent versions.
@Ahp12 She is gorgeous which means you may not see any mistakes I make!
Thanks, by the way ...
Rich
@lolitatiger Well then I guess I will see her sooner or later.
Thanks for letting me know ...
R
You can but it is more difficult as you have discovered. I'll post an update on my site and let you know when its there ...
Rich
@riberg Very frustrating. It would make that hair cut out far easier and more precise.
@lolitatiger Is she? I didn't know that. I found the picture at Stock Exchange ...
Rich
@GLaDOShugger Thanks!
Rich
Nothing is missing. Make sure the Layer Mask is selected and then the mask will go from white to black ...
Rich
@riberg yes, very addicting
@FloatingOnAZephyr I really don't know. She just looked nice.
Rich
@riberg :D thanks Rich!

I really had no idea who she was as I downloaded the picture free from stock exchange. Actress, I'm guessing - maybe a model - could Google her (although it sounds unseemly).
Rich
@jedisponge16 Excellent! Fun, isn't it?
Rich
@lolitatiger The technique is the same no matter what color you are using. Let me know if you are having problems with it ...
Rich
Thank you. You were a little too fast for me and I had to stop and repeat a few times. But thank you anyway.

@FloatingOnAZephyr What's frustrating?
Rich
@BeautybyBee yea i had the same problem..... =\
