So your video saved my butt from a lot of heartache. I was in the middle of this and never saw anything about cutting the rod or removing bearings. And I have a 91 but for some reason I guess it had a transfer case swap at some point from an earlier 88-89 bc my rod measured 10.2. Thanks for the detailed video!
Dude, just found the channel and you are my brother from another mother, awesome build, binged the entire YJ series and now have a huge part list for my 91. Although I will say mine is a rusty crusty northeast Jeep, so I hate you when I see a bolt come right out for you
That rear driveshaft is adorable, lol. Cant wait to see some pics/ vids from EJS, very jealous I can't be there. One day I will build another Jeep and join you and Stephen out there!
Hey man, this is my next project after lifting mine a bit, even though only lifted about 3.5” I have some vibes, on deceleration mostly. I was wondering why you said in your description you’d go with the Advanced Adapters SYE instead of what you got? Also, have you seen the JB Conversions SYE and what do you think? I’d have to switch to an electronic speedometer set up if I went with their shorty kit but don’t know if it’s worth the hassle for a 3.5 inch shorter yoke. I’m trying to future proof any upgrades I’m doing but also can only do so much at one time. Thanks for the video as usual, watched and saved this long ago. You’re an inspiration and also a pain cause you make me want to spend money on tools!😁
Haha yeah I love my tools, can never have enough! The Alloy USA kit that I bought is just the Rugged Ridge kit with an extra sticker and a higher price which is the main reason I wouldn't recommend it. The AA kit seems to be the best regarded SYE just from talking to people and reading reviews which is the one I tried to buy at the time but was on backorder for several months. The mega-short SYEs- unless you are running a ridiculous amount of lift on a Wrangler and/or a belly-up skid causing a crazy steep driveshaft angle I don't think you would see any real benefit over a standard SYE.
Before i started to put the case back together i was checking to see if it spins freely with the new output shaft in and it doesn’t unless i pull it out just a little bit did i do something wrong or is it supposed to bind up until everything torqued down
Did you change the pitch of your rear, and if so how did you do it? I have a 1993 wrangler YJ and I put stock leaf springs on it and it lifted it a little bit. The drive shaft is rotating on more of an angle now. Would I need to put a SYE on it to help it out? I am not getting any vibrations. Also I watched a lot of these videos on replacing the SYE and everyone used RTV to seal the mating surface. Don’t they have a gasket for this application?
I hace the exact same setup I just haven’t got the 35” tires . I have a transfer case drop kit do you think that would mess with shift gears . Since I have a body lift
The only grease I used was a very light coat of general purpose grease around the yolks where they ride on the seal. The RTV that I used to seal up the case and output shafts is Permatex Ultra Grey.
@@HardEarnedBacon I have a 91 YJ and I just put a 21/2” lift plus a boomerang shackle lift, which is a total of 3 1/2 inches. What don’t know what I need to do for back driveshaft. I’m very lost now
@@stevecovington1284 if you have vibrations you can add a transfer case drop which is cheap and easy, or you can do the SYE and double cardan driveshaft which is more expensive and difficult but a better option. If you don't have any vibrations I wouldn't worry about it and drive it as is.
Thank you for not talking the entire time and just showing the work.
👍

Glad it helped! Not sure what year they changed it but mine is a 91 too and had the bearings and longer shaft.
Curious, what kit did you use?
And did u also remove the brass ring in between the gears or re install that on the new shaft?
@@justaguysgarage8318 Alloy USA
Brass ring is the syncro and needs to be reinstalled

Haha awesome. And yeah I really appreciate the west coast desert climate when it comes to working on these old Jeeps.
Looks like your ready to go. Nice job. Good luck on the trails.
Fingers crossed it all holds together haha

It's a little guy lol. Stop playing around with Japanese cars and get a Jeep.
@@HardEarnedBacon Ideally I can do both
Thank you!!
nice job! Are you running a body lift? Also, what wheel and tires are you running? thanks.

did you find a rear output seal for the transmission? thats probably where the atf is going

If you don't have vibrations then I wouldn't worry about it. There is no gasket for the 231.

I'm not sure
Since I have a 4” lift and sye what would I need to set my pinion angle at?
@@waylontheking1544 it needs to be 1 to 2 degrees lower than the angle of the driveshaft
I have a 1987 jeep wrangler yj. Do I have to remove those bearing or seals whatever you call it?.if u can give me a feedback
Should be the exact same as whats in this video.
@HardEarnedBacon I'm thinking to used a socket and hit it with a hammer. I hope it works
Are you running a Dana 30/35 at EJS? Have I missed the swap to the 8.8?
Still on the 30/35. Ran out of time before EJS due to my lift not showing up for 3 months.
@@HardEarnedBacon How did you know what length rear driveshaft you needed before you did the SYE?
What year is yours mine is a 91 will I have the needle bearings in mine to press out

Did you reconnect the oil pump?
Yes
much easier to leave it in the jeep, I did mine while the transfer case was still installed
I prefer taking it out
Is there a way to contact you? I’m having some issues with my driveshaft after my lift
What do you need to know?
