    I have 1,000 feet of Leyland hedges and I'm getting old at 73. I build a box out of 2x6's with a pallet on top and plywood over the pallet and bolted it to my tractor bucket. I lift it into place and use a ladder to get into the bucket when I'l alone. When I have a helper - he stays in the bucket and I move the tractor along. I'm to old to work on top of the hedge, but good on you.

      Hmm so thats what ive got to look 4ward to. 10 times harder work than cutting lawns.. rapidly becoming the most sort after hedger in my area.. but im too cheap..30 to 40 euro an hr simply dont cut the mustard on big jobs. The 283cm longreach hl94ce is hard on the back..i prefer to use the stepladders all over that hedge you just did with a 24 or 30 inch standard trimmer, Get a real nice finish but no wonder im dead im running up and sown the ladder moving it everywhere hanging off it in every direction .. must learn to use my hl94 with more confidence..i only use it to trimm the top back that i cant reach.
      Really love your tripod .. thinkin its a 10ft henchman

    Nice. I have the same hedge but probably only a couple of meters high. I am trying to cut the sides back that have half obscured a path but I have only been able to take it so far because it’s kind of empty inside now so if I cut further I’ll just be left with bare thick branches, losing the covering green layer and all the privacy, if that makes sense. I have no idea what to do now, any tips would be great..

    • @jasongardener3425
      @jasongardener3425  2 месяца назад

      @@JamesBrown- the biggest problem with conifer, you can only remove a limited amount, go past green and it will not regenerate, its a difficult one, open path up, but retain hedge, something needs to give and unfortunately sounds like a decision you can only made

    I hate using sheets when hedging. You have to do piece by piece, if your not going straight on your first pass, you have to put the sheets down again. You also have to keep switching between sides and top + cleaning up and hedging. My advice is to just lightly rake it, and use the rake with a snow shovel to pick up the clippings. Then lightly blow over it with the leafblower. Raking is an art. Everyone his own tchnique, result is what counts👍

    Great job on the hedge, i have the same hedge cutter but the battery one, does the petrol one cut better? I find cutting Leylandi difficult as the green is quite oily it tends to catch in the blade.

      Cheers.
      Keep spraying the blades every half hour and it will keep the sap off better 👍👍
