As someone who has owned an m3 and m4, I would add that while my cars are faster on paper, the awd merc c43 would def take me at the lights in real world driving scenarios. I would always lose almost 2 secs trying to get grip...happened a lot...and the c43 would exploit that weakness and be away! Probably my next car :)

      Haha yes!
Was hooning around country roads in my M2 in front of the C43 on Sunday and the C43 didn't seem to lack at all and kept up well with the M2.
C43 will be a great purchase as a next car!

i also own a m4 and c43 amg sedan. love both, in terms of raw performance, m4 is just next level. c43, it’s much more practical. if i’m on my own, i drive the m4, if i’m with family or friends, i drive the c43. i have the performance exhaust and it’s a bit tame, i just prefer rumbles and hums rather than pops and bangs.

    I owned a c43 and then i bought an c63s.
The c63s is a monster and people love the sound and you get a lot of attention.
After that i bought a porsche macan s also great sound but more luxurious.
The c63s and de porsche where overkill financially.
I think the c43 draws less attention and is financially a mature choice.
So if you need to use the car everyday take the c43. If you want to have the most fun and pure enjoyment go for the c63s

Just watched a couple of your videos on this car, I think I'm now sold. I've had my heart set on a c63 for about a year but really want 4matic. I've had a c32 for years now and as fun as it is you just can't put down the power in the winter
I'm liking how understated the c43 is too, c63 is just too in your face

I bought a C43 over the C63 as well, and that was after test driving both extensively. The main reason was because British weather and roads make rear wheel drive cars somewhat precarious and unreliable (I had a new model rear wheel drive Jaguar XFS prior to the C43). You're always searching for traction, and just can't put power down in an accessible way, which is fun but not ideal or safe. For use as a family car as well as a performance toy, I just needed the fun factor and noise coupled with the extra grip and confidence AWD offers, and it isn't like the C43 doesn't handle amazingly well, as it's still rear bias AWD. Like you, I also preferred the higher pitch growl of the C43 vs the deeper but slightly monotone sound of the C63 too. The C63 sounds more American muscle car like, but the C43 sounds more like a race or sports car, and seems to rev or sound like it revs higher too, which is lovely.
Add to that, ironically in 9/10 British weather and road conditions, the C43 will actually beat a C63 in a 0-60 race. Only in ideal warm to hot conditions with heated tyres will a C63 beat a C43 in a traffic light drag race, so basically, barely ever. AWD essentially reliably and constantly gives you that instant traction pushed to the back of your seat feeling at launch, whereas in the C63 you just spin up a lot.
But yea, to anyone considering a C Class AMG, I definitely recommend testing both the C43 and C63, like me, you may just end up preferring the C43 and saving yourself money at the same time.
P.S. I'm looking to get an E63S next lol.

Hi nil95, thanks for the detailed comment, (I’m the bloke in the video). I agree too, the C63 is a terrific car but it’s a test of concentration to drive it, it would be great on a track of course. I’d be keen to hear your views on the E63s when you get it.

    • @MrHCars
      @MrHCars  4 года назад +2

Completely agree nib95! The M140i was useless in winter, had to drive with traction on permanently.
Like my dad said, would love to hear your thoughts on the E63s (or even, if possible, get it on the channel!) when you pick one up, thats a beast!!

    • @nib95
      @nib95 4 года назад +5

Appreciate the responses. Here's another detailed one from me because why not help fellow owners in this crazy time and whilst I'm furloughed lol.
I'm not sure how long you've had the car Tony, but one thing I'd recommend is to permanently drive the car in Sport Handling Mode or Traction Off. To activate it you just tap the traction button bottom left of your control knob, or hold it for a few seconds for TC off. Sport Handling mode gives you much better throttle modulation and turning acceleration (eg when you put your foot down coming out of a corner or roundabout, the traction control won't bog you down). It will also reduce the amount of jerkiness you get in Sport+ mode. You essentially can't spin the car or tires in Sport Handling Mode either, even in the rain (I've tried plenty lol), so it's still completely safe. Hell, even with Traction control completely off it's hard to spin out in good weather, and really only in the rain or flooring out of roundabouts etc will you start to get some wheel spin or drifting (but only with TC off).
Second bit of advice I'd give is to take out prestige wheel, tire and cosmetic damage insurance through tidyalloys.com. All 3 cost me £370 for 3 years (you don't necessarily have to take all 3), but it's one of the best investments I've made as it's free to repair paint chips (you'll get a few on spirited motorway drives etc) and the odd alloy curbing, not to mention any punctures. It's also considerably cheaper than what Mercedes would have charged you for the same thing.
Next tip I'd give is to ditch the runflats and stick on a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4's or 4S's. The 4's are a tad comfier, whilst the 4S's give you slightly better performance, especially in the rain. The 4S's are what I use and prefer. Either option will give you much better performance and comfort than the run flats the car came with, get rid of crabbing (tire sounds when turning slowly in cold weather) and also dramatically reduce the liklehood of damaging your wheels or tires (from potholes etc).
Also, if you do find suspension a bit too jerky in Sport+ (eg on particularly rough residential roads etc) don't forget to press the suspension button (left of the control knob) to drop suspension into comfort mode whilst staying in Sport+.
I'd also customise your Independent Drive mode too (I have mine set to Eco drive, Comfort suspension, Sport/Comfort Handling) as it's only one flick up from Sport+, which saves you having to click down multiple times to get to Eco. I have this set up so if I'm driving around in a spirited way and spot the police lol or want a more comfortable drive, one flick up and the car goes silent (and exhaust flaps close). Not to mention I get better mpg than in comfort too.
And finally, if you want to start the car around friends and get a louder start up, when you get in, tap the start button twice without your foot on the brake, and it'll go into power mode. Flick it into Sport+, and then start the car normally with your foot on the brake, and now the start up will be louder and start in Sport+.
Anyway, enjoy the car! I've loved owning mine and still get a grin on my face driving it every day. If or when I do switch to the E63S, I'll certainly drop by with impressions if I remember to lol.
      Cheers

@@nib95 WOW!! what a terrific reply, many thanks, I really appreciate the time and effort you went to.
I've actually owned the car from new, so 2017, over 3 years now. My first instinct after reading your reply, was to jump into the car and test all those settings you mentioned, I will later.
I often flick it into Sports or Sports+ mode, maybe a few times a week, when the roads are really clear and I can see it's very safe to do so, it changes the whole dynamics of the car. I know too what you mean by the jerkiness of the car in S+, certainly at low speeds, you're never quiet sure how it'll take off from a standing start at the lights for instance.
That's excellent advice concerning the tire insurance, on my 3rd day of ownership, I did a U-turn at a junction and pranged the front nearside wheel into the curb, it was quite a jolt, the tuning circle of the car isn't particularly tight. I was pretty annoyed with myself when I saw the damage, it took a chunk out of the wheel rim and disfigured the alloy a lot. Other times I've reversed too close to a high curb and scrapped the alloys badly, the tire's edge profile is very flat and its easy to do. I eventually took the car to Mercedes and they repaired all 4. it cost me £720 I think - ouch! I've been very careful since and (touch wood) not damaged them so far. I've used the auto-park feature a few times too, it gets it ight every time :-) but yes, I'll get that insurance sorted this week.
I'll invest in those Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires you recommend, I know what you mean about the crabbing sounds, it was a bit disconcerting when I fist heard it, those do sound like a worthwhile investment then!
Do you mostly drive in Sports+, jeez it's really loud, I love it but do worry if its early morning or late at night, people sleeping etc
Great tip about the start up loud trick, (I'm off out to try that now) I wasn't aware you could do that with the power on button.
And yes, I agree its a dream car to drive, I look forward to driving every morning, its worth every penny.
I still tell myself I need to get a C63s one day, Panamericana grill of course :-), matte grey would be perfect
      Cheers for now
      Tony

I watch this video few months back and just show on my suggested videos just want to share my thoughts this video help me to make my decision on buying the correct car…. C63S ❤️.
I was close to buy a c43 and I really love it was cheaper to buy and to run and still looks great and was newer however… However I bought a C63S 2016 coupe tune 720bhp Downpipes with 30k miles one owner the last AMG V8. is a bloody beast I just love it and I live in England and not issues at all with weather however we have 4x4 merc also, so doesn’t matter . If you buy a C63S is because you have the money to run the car. Is expensive in petrol depending on the drive mode you use as this car is with the touch of a bottom either a gentleman or a hooligan If I have to decide between a c43 and a C63 I will go for the c43 but never over a c63s coupe or a Edition 1. The c43 is better option for a daily drive car also if you have a family with one car and you don’t want to spend a fortune in running cost . c63s is for someone who owns a second car and has the money to enjoyed and want 2 cars in one.

test drove this car in coupe then the e53 coupe and c63. he's spot on i think c43 is the better option than the c63 mainly due to 4matic plus, makes it into a daily driver which wont kill you as easily. guess im similar age to your dad. C43 was more sporty not necessarily quicker but more nimble clelary than the bigger heavier e53. But the luxury, inside tech and compfort is different level for big guy, which just nudged the c43 out of contention. too old for cars too track based now - so the level down are brilliant amgs imho, inspite of what the purists think.

Sound wise the C43 definitely wins too!! A 6 pot will always beat a 4 pot! And i agree, the A45 is a little boy racer which led me to the M140i instead.

Could order one but two dif dealers told me it could take 9-12 months to have it built/delivered. I didn’t want to wait that long. The c43 only took 3 months.
The other point is yes the c63 mrsp costs more but the insurance was also higher and of course fuel costs are higher due to lower mpg. I’m told you will go thru rear tires quickly as well lol.
Finally, to your dad’s point I agree I don’t think the minor overall performance upgrade is worth it imo. When I test drove the c43 after the c63 expected a considerable down grade in performance considering the $12k price difference. According to my butt Dyno the c43 didn’t really feel any slower. Of course the top end speed is lower but unless you are at the track where are you going to use it?

Cars registered March - Sept have the last 2 digits of the year
      e.g. 2020 = 20
cars registered from September until February, have the year number + 50
      e.g. car registered in September 2006 - February 2007 has the number (06 + 50 = 56)

'the 43 is more comfortable than the 63', but so is the base model c class, and cheaper.
the 63 has 'comfort mode, sport, and sport plus'.
is it electric, i couldn't hear it at 01:38, well not when compared with the AMG c63, and hardly 'insane'.
why chose it over the 63? because he's steady, and IF you want steady then go base model c class.
at 02:10 you say 'it's very quiet', yet you've just said the exhaust noise was 'INSANE'???
none of the extras you're mentioning are not on, or available on the 63.
talking of moving the grill down to lower NON amg models, who's name plate is on the engine?, as ALL AMG hand built engines have a nameplate with the man who built it's signature on, or is the 43 not built by AMG, but just 'tweaked' by them?
the 63 suspension is 'very stiff' for good reason, it needs to be stable when putting all that extra horsepower down.
he 'THINKS you'd feel really tired after driving to the coast, well when i drive to the coast i feel disappointed to have arrived, as i just want to keep on driving it.
the c63 has air-con, and a sunroof, BUT you don't use both at the same time, or do YOU?
you can' track a 43? well you can track a bus if you want.
    stood revving an unloaded engine?
at 06:48 for someone who can drive with two fingers on the wheel you're really gripping that steering wheel.
as for sound, 43 v. 63, the turbo model has struggled to match the V8 6.2 for noise, but i expect the 4 litre to have a deeper note than the 43, or for that matter an mx5.
it's a 'performance pack' and that doesn't include colour coded mirrors?
correct, don't discount the c43, especially IF you're a pipe and slippers man, BUT it ain't a red blooded c63 by any means.
it's ALL you two's personal preference, but it's hardly unbiased is it?
and to be honest do you think mercedes would make the mistake of selling the BETTER car for way less money?
i'm sure the 43 is a fine car, but it certainly not a c63 by any means, people used to say the boxster was a poor mans porsche, but the boxster was a fine car, but NOT a 911 by any means.

      @tonyh1460 3 года назад +3

      Hi Dave,
Thanks for reviewing the video, I think you may have misunderstood much of it though. I'm not saying the 43 is better than the 63 and I did start by saying at 0:58 that I'm not in the sports car bracket, as a family man it's ideal for me.
It's very quiet in comfort mode within the cabin, and is extremely loud in Sports+.
The 43 is built by AMG but on a production line, so one guy isn't bolting the bits together to make one engine. Having the badge of the guy a nice marketing ploy tbh, but makes no real difference.
Actually I have driven with the sun roof slanted open and the air con on, occasionally, the cold air is heavy so isn't lost but it's not something I'd recommend :-)
The video is off-the-cuff, it's a one-off take and not scripted, it's supposed to be that way, it's not a forensic study of the 2 cars.
You should give one a test drive, they're incredibly versatile.

    • @davec8730
      @davec8730 3 года назад

@@tonyh1460 yes i would have to agree they are perhaps more of a 'family man's car', but more so would be the base model.
one man builds the 63 engine, and puts his name to it, i wondered if the 43 was likewise, but doubted it.
the 43 is a 'nice marketing ploy' as it's not built in the true AMG tradition.
running with the sun roof open, or merely part open is wasteful of the aircon.
as for cabin noise in 'comfort' and sports plus, do you think that MB would put anything better on their 43 that isn't on their 63?
the 63 is the better car, it has to be ore the 43 would be more in price.
the 43 suits you, i can understand that, it could me should i drive one, but i imagine i'd be disappointed with everything much but for the fuel returns.
your video somewhat favoured the 43 to say the least, it's going to attract the attention of 63 owners who know differently, and wish to point out it's flaws.
as for pipe and slippers, i reckon i'm around 10 years older than you, so go ahead and do live life to the full and get that 500BHP.

      @@davec8730 Hi Dave,
I think you're missing the point again, you say my video 'somewhat favoured the 43', no it very much favours the 43.....but for me, that's the whole point.
Obviously the 63 has the more powerful engine, but is only a 2-wheel drive car, I had assumed there were major differences between the 2 cars so I checked a comparison site below, and was surprised to find just how similar they actually are.
      carbuzz.com/compare/mercedes-benz-amg-c43-coupe-vs-mercedes-benz-amg-c63-coupe
