The only day that robots and ai will have a chance at being just as good as real people will be the day we start living in Cyberpunk or some similar shit lol, until then, calling hyper sexualized women on nikke your waifus won't fix anything. In fact, they're part of why some of those toxic relationships could exist in the first place (alongside p0rn and unrealistic expectations from the media we consume).
You can't love someone else, therefore be happy, if you're not happy yourself and you don't love yourself. Getting bitter at society and finding comfort on IA instead of real people won't solve anything for real. It's not easy when you're past the point where it's easy to make friends and stuff, but you gotta do it.
I don't really have friends, I only have internet friends, they're few, and we barely talk, but I do have a partner, so I guess I could be worse. But still, coping doesn't resolve anything. Getting an IA girlfriend won't make you happy. You might think it will, but in the long run you'll notice it just made you feel even more lonely. Unless until IA actually becomes more smart and actually ends up adquiring the hability to replace a human.

We're all raised by the internet here, so us being lonely is more difficult than for the average person.
Unrealistic expectations can't really arise from people who do buy such AI GFs, as they weren't really in the dating pool anyway. They can't put the expectations from the AI into their human partners if they never switch back to humans, amirite.
Anyway, at the end of the day, we're all pretending that we're happy. There's a reason most people say, "Fake it until you make it."

It felt pretty pessimistic, the way he talks about current social situations, as if the chance of improving is extremely low. I believe that social interactions, online and offline, to gain a group of people you can connect with on a meaningful level, have become harder, that people do not know how to traverse through relationships because of a lack of practice and their environment, but you can get out of that hole to an extent if that truly bothers you, instead of becoming self-defeating and digging yourself deeper simply because you think there's no point in attempting to improve because you can't instantly get meaningful friends. Unless you become very lucky with money, no changes are instant, and this applies especially with figuring out how to start and further relationships

People like to say that AI relationships are mostly targeted towards men, but they really underestimate how much many women would want a compassionate and loyal boyfriend or girlfriend, who agrees with their opinions, and is 24/7 there to comfort and chat with them.
An AI companion can do much more than being eye candy, especially going forward, since they keep getting better at it.
It's not like men are the only lonely people out there.

As a college student, I dont have the time and money to go on many dates. And I dont want my time wasted and my mental divided when having a real gv. Sure maybe there are those who can understand and have the patience to wait but let's be honest, they are a needle in a hay stack and also, the stress you have when in a relationship to keep the other person waiting. The ai is probably best suited for people like me who have those lonely nights and would not like to be disturbed when I'm trying to focus on my sht.

My main issue is that, relying on a machine to have a conversation with a person and disregarding actual human connection is a huge problem. Sure, someone can use this to get better at conversation, but there are already apps for that that already exist and don't have any parasocial or sexual leanings to them.
I don't think Brett was blaming the economic system on AI, she was saying that it doesn't help the situation at all. If someone is having a hard time getting their financials in order and getting their life together, talking to a machine is absolute copium and wasting precious time and days, if not months, of your life.
Obviously, now it may not be a huge issue, but, in the next coming years and when AI becomes way more responsive and active, it will and we need to keep others from falling into that hole. Sure, real life relationships have the possibility of being fake, but ALL AI ones will ALWAYS be...unless AI somehow grows a consciousness. You have to realize evry second someone spends on this is money the company is getting. The time, if someone were to take this as real or were depressed enough to, is nothing but money to the people who made the product, because that's all it is, a product. Also, the main reason why it's at a 2.1 is because most people agree with Brett even if they've never heard of her, also possibly because of ads.
But, yeah, i entirely agree with you about the money situation, it's absolutely insane, but counter-acting it with talking to a machine is only making it worse.
I like Brett Cooper, but what she says here is contradictory. She shits on people potentially getting happiness from something due to the fact that society has driven most to become introverted and much less social. Then she tries to argue that people should go outside and talk, kiss and meet real people, but if that was an option would we not be in this position to begin with? It's just such an odd take, and yes it's likely she is reading a script but she is still delivering it, whether she wrote it or not. I don't think there's anything wrong with people obtaining happiness, it's not like it is physically harming anyone or making someone else's life harder in a sense. If people want to have an AI girlfriend or boyfriend who fucking cares, it's really not that big of a deal. I also hate to be that person, but the reality is that the reason society is like this is a large portion due to the fact of women in this modern age. I'm not saying it's all them, but a large chunk of it is. So then men are like well okay I can't get a real gf so maybe an AI one will have to do. It's not that weird and it's not like this came out of nowhere, it has been going this way and will continue to because of the way things are. It is what it is.

I honestly love happy people and normally find them adorable and bringing some much needed serotonin in my life. Not my main source, but it's nice. I usually try my best to keep my negative feelings private even among friends except for maybe my closest that i know i won't overwhelm if I talk about things like that. Being miserable doesn't mean you should stop respecting other peoples boundaries cause it's not their job to make you less miserable

I get both points regarding AI and online relationships in general.
On one hand, it’s true that there’s a very small number of people that actually think they’re dating a streamer or actually being very parasocial. And to be fair, there are downsides to literally everything.
The true problem with all the AI and parasocial stuff, however, isn’t the fact that birth rates are down or social interaction is down.
It’s the fact that it functions exactly like a different kind of video game. If you think about it, AI relationships is quite literally a more developed gacha game, focused entirely on conversing with your own personal waifu.
While corn streaming sites emulate a real life gacha game.
When you think of it in that way, you can now get why communities like the Genshin stans and Twitter mobs act very similarly to the extremely parasocial.
The internet, as a whole, is just one big cesspool of different varieties of gacha games taking different forms and called different things!
And unless your job requires a computer to work at or you use it for actual real life interactions with real people (Two-way street communication, mind you), it’s also a kind of time waster, as much as you wish you could deny it.
This isn’t much of an issue on its own, however. The main issue is when it starts affecting your IRL life. That’s when you know you’re too addicted or spending too much time online.
But since this is the real problem, and these are the real issues, then this is ultimately not about the internet, the AI, or the online services (Because this problem exists for things like gambling addiction and drug addiction too, not just online addiction).
This is a mental health issue. An addiction issue. It’s not about the medium, but how it’s used by the individual. If you want true change, then instead of focusing on trying to change the internet, you should instead try to focus on helping the addicted by improving the mental health of the addicted and mentally ill. And we already know how to do it, because the process to helping these people is the same process used to help drug addicts, corn addicts, etc.
With the coming of newer generations and technology, I think it’s time we begin adding online addiction to the therapy list.

-Church (yes cool people are sometimes there too)
-Farmers markets and fundraising events
-Holiday events like Christmas parades
-Book clubs, anime clubs, etc
-Political summits and debates, which can keep you up to date with the real world
-Volunteering places like homeless shelters and soup kitchens
-Going to a play or opera
-Watching a local sports game
Some of these places require money, but most of them you could probably go for free. If you have an item that shows your interests (an anime pin or jacket, or maybe a movie reference on a hat, etc) you can find people with common ground and strike up a conversation. It doesnt happen overnight but by going to these places and using those tactics ive made a rather large amount of friends, and im a socially awkward introvert. Anything's possible, you just have to make an effort and find others who are willing to put in that same effort.
Where does one find book clubs and anime clubs outside of high school and college?
@@davidbai3543 Good question, it really depends on the community and neighborhood you're in. They probably won't be in every location but where I live there is a healthy mix of young adults and elderly people with time on their hands, and I found posters for these adult clubs in my library and church bulletins. So I didn't have to do much looking. But there's also the possibility of finding similar groups on Facebook and then meeting up irl, or just starting one on your own.
This is all a symptom, not a cause. For some people, an IRL relationship isn't an option, let em have it.
