  • "Urge Surfing" is a skill where we use mindfulness as a way to observe our urges and avoid acting out on them. In this video Dr. May will show you exactly how this works!
    **This channel contains videos of ALL the Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, Radically Open DBT skills, and much more! This meditation prevented my bad habit tonight. For me, there is always a step between urge and action, but it is usually completely ineffective... such as, "fight it" or "outwit it." Urge surfing is better. Usually I'm just looking for an improvement, but there can be sober improvements and change too.

    AOB
    1 Admit: Admit you have a problem.
    2 Observe: What do you feel like doing?/What kinds of thoughts or images are coming up?/What emotions are you experiencing?/How does your body feel?
    3 Breath: Ride through the uncomfortableness and remember it will pass.
    Thank you! 🙏🏽

    Thank you for this! You mentioned emotions and how the pass if we don't mess with them. Do you have a video explaining this?

    • @jennifermayph.d.2761
      @jennifermayph.d.2761  Год назад

      I’m not sure if I have something that really focuses on that specifically. But what might help is to get on an app like insight timer and do some practices that involve noticing emotions and seeing how they change moment to moment.

    Thank you for the video....my question is most of the time I forget the moment I need mindfulness ..what is your advice on this?

    • @jennifermayph.d.2761
      @jennifermayph.d.2761  Год назад +1

      That’s a great question. I would practice checking in with yourself and tuning in at different points throughout your day on a regular basis. If you can make that a habit during ordinary days and lower stress times, you will have a better shot at being mindful under more stressful circumstances.

      @@jennifermayph.d.2761 ok for the sake of practice I also need a urge (It might be a weak urge you can say ) . For that matter what I think is I myself create an urge then practice on it . what is your advice on it?

    • @jennifermayph.d.2761
      @jennifermayph.d.2761  Год назад +3

      Sure, that could be worth a try. Also, maybe there are times when you can catch yourself experiencing a small urge, such as an urge to pick up your phone and check your social media, and practice there.
