You get a consistent flame cycle by death abusing. Since there's no spawning animation, you can death abuse petty quick. 55:46 A glitch where if you break the box on the same frame as the bees spawn out of the beehive, you get hit. 1:03:15 Mistake.

A trick called box dupe. 53:13 The box counter at the bottom of the screen is ticking down. If this box counter is still ticking down when you die, you get to keep the amount of boxes you broke in memory. Dying here makes it so the boxes in the level reset like nothing happened, but you getting around 72 boxes makes it so you don't have to do a bunch of backtracking within the death route.
As i never watched speedruns of crash 2 before the whole dash and then spin for max speed makes Crash go really fast. I did not even do that myself when i played the game but i guess it takes many hours to learn how to speedrun crash 2

Sorry for answering late, but I hope my explanation will be enough for you. There's a special program called LiveSplit, where you can see your segments. It also has a function of summing up the best segments of a runner and connecting it into the best possible time. This is where he got it from. The best time possible gets better every time you get a new best segment. I don't think anyone will ever get 1:08 (at least with current strats), even beating this world record will be very difficult tbh.
I wonder what an optimal run could do, could we ever see sub 1:08:00 on the 100% category? I mean as it is, sub 1:10 is amazing, but always have to wonder how far we can push a game before it is too difficult to go farther...
Of course even without that, your movement is masterful, im curious do you use and original ps1 controller? I know the greatest hits copy has dualshock suppor but sadly the psn version doesnt and i only have the original cd

Actually they nerfed it in crash 3 but you get powers to make up for it

I needed to activate the death route to do the box dupe. Getting the nitro is a bonus box to get.
