Finally, after a long search, I found your video that clearly demonstrates how to replace an LED turn signal bulb. Thanks to your best guidance, I saved some money I would have had to pay to an auto electrician. Thank you.
To remove the mirror housing, I used bicycle tire levers, and to pry out the plug that had been stuck for 15 years in the LED turn signal bulb socket, I had to use a screwdriver. Luckily, nothing broke!

I thought I would have to remove the inner door panel to get to the mirror for this repair. A small nightmare if it is not handled properly, but your video simplified the process for me.

Super easy-to-follow step-by-step tutorial, nice one - thank you! Wearing gloves is a must when doing this swap over with all mirror contaminants. I discovered the T15 TORX bit is a size too big as the assembly housing screws needed a T10H [S2]

German engineering. 10 years old car and it doesn't creak inside. 2-year-old French Japanese or Italian and creaks worse than 20-year-old German :)
Agreed. The video is great but holy crap is that a lot of steps to replace what is a CONSUMABLE PART. I have worked with Germans/Swiss Germans for 20 years and it is shit like this which continues to amaze me.

Volkswagen is the best of the german brands when it comes to DIY. Try changing a fuel filter on VW and then go to BMW.

Just what i need to replace the mirrorcaps
about connecting the mirror heat wires. which is which? mine are brown and white. i feel the mirror gets hot when i start the car. should i swap positions

They used to be a simple bulb replacement and they cost a dollar.
@@upperleftcoastchelseafan7718 That is far too simple for Germans, they had to add at least a dozen steps and designate a light bulb only made at an elevation above 1,000 meters in the summer months.

@@larissamaccario1091 Thank you! I got mine replaced following your video. But I consider the part design unconscious environmentally. Why should the whole thing be replace when only the light is broken? For the owner to spend more and create more waste to our already depleted environment?
All led indicators work like that- there is no bulb. The same goes for led head and tail lights.
Great video. Very helpful. My only complaint is that you rush through the part where you disengage the clips that hold the painted outer cover onto the turn signal. It is difficult to to this without breaking the tabs. I know it doesn't matter if the clips break on the old turn signal that you are throwing away. But its aggravating when you want to salvage a turn signal from a junk vehicle. If you make another video like this, could you please explain in more detail how to disengage the tabs. Thank you.
I tried and gave up at the first step. Where exactly do you use the tool to release the "two clips". I have the EXACT same tool.

I let the mirror dangle, didn't remove the sockets at the top, it's not necessary. My 2010 used T-10 torx screw driver.
cant just change a bulb no? have to change the whole assumbly if the side repeater not working??
Unfortunately, the people from VW thought of changing the signal lamp completely when it burns out

@@dobtv3732 a guitar pick should be enough the pry open the plastic cover. Basically anything that does not scratch the paint or plastic easily will do.

I don’t know if anybody else honestly feels this way but that was really complicated just to change a bulb. I’m ready to call the dealership and have them do it. Yeah I do some work on my car here and there but this was cuckoo :-)

Because that would be way too easy.
It would also make it really easy for someone to remove/steal them. I wish the process was easier too though.

So basically remanufacture the mirror. I have a 15' Passat. Trading it in, gonna buy a new 24' with my settlement money. WILL NEVER BUY A VOLKSWAGEN OF ANY SORT EVER IN LIFE!!!
