This is the sign-off that was used by CBWT-TV, the CBC's station in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, until the network adopted a 24/7 schedule in October 2006.
Several years ago when CBC Toronto signed off for the day there were used to have that blue CBC Ontario Banner with static sounding like the TV singnal is out I like the replacment with that CBC Television banner along with a nice calming and relaxing music when CBWT goes off the air.
I remember this sign -off watching CNET - TV 9 in Windsor from Detroit, and I always liked the creative, multi-background feel of it. Ever since the co-called upgrade to digital in the States, good luck getting Canadian broadcasting. I wish they would keep the painting footage and use it as a station identification for participating stations in Canada.
Before long, their French counterpart, Radio-Canada, will start airing 24/7 themselves! And if CBC retrains the NHL, they'll bid for French rights for their French network!
Weird. I have the signoff from CBRT in Calgary on a VHS tape (also on my channel) and it doesn't have the voiceover when they are listing the translators. Must only be a local thing.
@RetroWinnipeg I saw signoffs for CKWS Kingston, ON and CHEX Peterborough, ON (both affiliates of the CBC) on RUclips, while the CBC owned & operated stations are now 24/7 as of 10/9/06. Do you think 'WS and CHEX will go 24/7 in the near future? And what about the digital transition in Canada? Will Canadian stations play O Canada when the switch to DTV happens?
No Canadian stations have ever played O Canada during the DTV switchover in 2011, except in 2009 on Detroit's PBS station, WTVS-TV Analogue. There used to be footage of WTVS DTV switchover from thesameretrowindsor but his account got hacked in late December 2016 and was shut down in March of 2017 so the switchover is lost. I'll let you know when someone reuploads it.
Man I used to love that beginning segment. Used to see it in Detroit on the Windsor CBC. Awesome Thanx!!

CBHT (Halifax) used to use this sign-off as well, I miss it! :(
I'm going to miss seeing these sign-offs. It'd be nice if CBC could continue playing the station IDs and "O, Canada" at midnight or something.

Typo - that should be CNET - TV 9 in Windsor.
That was CBC Manitoba from 2006! #gocanadago🍁
On October 9, 2006, CBC Television will go 24/7! No more of these sign-offs.
The CBC station in NB (CBAT) always ran this without a voiceover. Never figured out why.
It's a local thing in Winnipeg only and only if you have DV on Bell ExpressVu Satellite TV.

I believe the voiceover here was Bob Boving.
Yep, he was the main voice for CBC Television from 1985-2002.
Any vids of the test card with the random DTMF tones
KCIX 6 Canberra Opening from April 2019.
As on here, CBWT's tone heard with the bars is 396 Hz.
*432 hz not 396 hz.
You can't even make out they are saying at 2:00?
In Winnipeg, CBWT 6
Typo...that should be CBET in Wndsor. It used to be CKLW.

Here is an update, Fred. CKWS and CHEX 1 and 2 went 24/7 in the late 2000s/early 2010s.
