Samsung Pay Has A Problem - I'm Switching To Google Pay

  • Samsung Pay is Samsung's proprietary mobile payment system. You can use it on the Samsung Galaxy S22 series, Galaxy S21 series, zFold, and zFlip. For years, I recommended it to people simply because of the versatility and rewards that you can earn. Samsung began crippling Samsung Pay with the removal of MST support and from there, they slowly made it worse and worse by stripping away the perks. I discovered something with Samsung Pay's cash back rewards that was my tipping point. I will no longer be using or recommending Samsung pay in the future. More-so, I'll be switching to Google Pay and Google Wallet moving forward. From Watch the video to find out why! Stay tuned for more Samsung content, including S22 Ultra tips and tricks, future Samsung Galaxy coverage, and possibly more content on a Google Pay new offer.

The best part of Samsung Pay was the surprised look store owners had when they said that (they always called it Apple Pay) won't work here. I would say nothing and while the machine said processing and my receipt was printing out, the store owner would just be staring wide eyed.
Samsung reasoning for removing it was because most businesses are upgrading their machines. However, here in the US, that will takes years. Therefore, they should have kept it for a few more years.
The feature that distinguished them from Google Pay and Apple Pay they get rid of. Makes no sense.

Unfortunately mate , this is the modern Samsung , they giveth , then taketh away.
You could see Samsungs change of attitude and marketing from the note ten when hardware features started to disappear continuously off the handsets with every model after that , and the down speccing of some models , and then the accessories that once always came in the box with earlier galaxy models disappeared too.
I was always a galaxy boy up until the note 9 , in my view Samsung has overtaken apple as the meanest company .
I still love my old note 9 , but I no longer buy Samsung stuff.

    • @vincehny
      @vincehny 2 года назад +3

@@mikldude9376 Totally agree. Samsung used to cram everything into their flagship phones and now they have removed so much that you can barely recognize a Samsung phone with any other Android phone but they continue to raise their prices. I still have my Note9 and almost tempted to put my Sim card back in that. So many times I've gone shopping in the past and didn't have to worry if I left my wallet at home or in the car. Very disappointed in the trajectory that Samsung is heading.

It probably just isn't that big of a market for them, since most parts of the worlds don't even have the swipe terminals anymore, some never had. In the grand scheme of things, they probably just didn't want to keep a feature they almost exclusively had to cater to the USA.

In my area MST is a big deal. A lot of older POS machines. I lost MST when upgrading to the S22U. I've used Samsung Pay since it first came out. I was also aggravated a little by the zero amount charge that they added to every transaction that I had to delete when reconciling. The rewards were nice but I learned years ago not to mess with it because they kept changing the rules. When I upgraded phones I looked at nothing but Samsung because of MST.
I'm now done with Samsung Pay. Considering the absolute nightmare with ordering the S22 and the deceptive specs/marketing Samsung did I am also done with Samsung phones, period.

I switched to Google Pay as my primary payment app for the exact same reason that you described in the video. The points going away every month was extremely aggravating. I never used the cash back but after seeing that the cash back is deducted from your account due to inactivity, that is ridiculous! I am still using a Galaxy S10+, with MST. In 2022, there aren't very many credit card machines that don't have the 'tap' logo. So I can see why the newer phones S21 the S22 do not have MST technology hopefully they've taken that sensor out and replaced it with another sensor probably the S pen. I still think that the Samsung phones are better than Google phones or iPhones. But for electronic payment I will use Google Pay, forever!

I was very reluctant to upgrade to the S22 Ultra from my Note 10+ because of the MST thing. I debated it for a couple months. Ultimately I did upgrade, but I hate that I now have to carry a card with me everywhere and risk losing it, because most of the stores I shop at use MST. I haven't used Samsung Pay since I got the S22U about a month ago, because there's nowhere to use it. I use MST in various other stores, too, and it really surprises people. I use Google Pay, too, at other merchants. I agree, Samsung Pay isn't as "fun" without the rewards. It's definitely a reason to not feel attached to MST and upgrade to a new phone.

MST was very cool. They dropped that.
The point system was nice in that I could use it to cover the cost of skins, themes, etc...
HOWEVER, if you didn't use your points, they dropped off after a year. I tried to save up enough points to get something worthwhile from their reward store and it was impossible. I used it to even pay for bills, which were here point generators (they removed that ability) Then they removed points.
Rewards have never worked well for me. Rarely is there a reward that matches up with the things I need. Nor does the system help in anyway. If there is a reward in a store, just auto-apply it.
It might be time to put Samsung pay in the corner with Bixby

This isn't really about the technical facts @TehPotentialz. This is an "opinion" video and a reaction to a company's decisions, business practices and direction related to customer relations. We know what the stupid terms and conditions say.... That's obvious. We just think it's crap, don't you get that? We are all entitled to our opinion. If I want to use the term stealing, then I will. Effectively that's the way I feel about it and the net result is money I had earned and then was taken through some technicality. You are NOT wrong..... And neither am I.

I opened Wallet, used my finger print to access my card on file & nothing.
I Just took my credit card out & installed it in the terminal.

2 things: 1.: MST technology, almost everyone here is talking about, will become obsolete and even non-existent. No problem, even objectively. 2.: I have no problem not using my Samsung Pay, because it's almost like just using my phone in social media. I mean, who doesn't make at least 1 simple purchase with the phone in a month? I've never experienced this problem, because I use it almost every day.
And in my country Google Pay doesn't have Rewards. So... A lot of advantages for SPay and none for GPay. I'll continue to use that one.

What country? Because in almost every single country Samsung took away most rewards from Samsung Pay.
Once I tried saw that GPay was at least 10 times faster to complete a transaction, plus Google has way more discounts and rewards, it was hard to keep using Samsung Pay. It's odd that the rewards are opposite in your country.

Being totally honest, the whole MST thing only really applies to the US because of how far back they are in terms of terminal technology. Here in Canada, I have never experienced a time where tap/contactless payment wasn't available (unless it was BROKEN), so having no met wouldn't really be a big deal. The US needs to catch up and fully adopt he contactless payment standard, it's really bizzare that you guys still need to swipe or instruct your card....

I don’t like a rewards point system, vs the cash back you get with  pay. That money goes right on your  cash card like a debit card.  pay is also actuality an option to pay on apps I purchase from. It’s much better IMO.
