No problem in Australia Liron. All the acquirers, take all payments, not too sure why anyone would ask the merchant if they accept them, we just use it. Like the UK we've had contactless for a long time. Have been using the wallets since inception, best way to go. BUT then again I always take my real wallet with me just in case!
I too have added my credit card to use with Google pay I use it 9 times out of 10. I still use cash when I go to my local club just to pay golf fees and have side bets. Other than that it's Google pay. I am waiting for the blocking card Liron recommended for the wallet, 1 for me and 1 for my wifey.
I have used Apple Pay in countries where it is not available yet, most of the time I was able to use it even if the cashiers said I can't. I just say I'll pay by paywave, contactless or whatever they call it locally and just use my phone or watch and it always works. I think many cashiers are just not aware.
Exactly the same in Las Vegas. I asked at Starbucks if contactless was okay to use while at the same time waving my card around like a lunatic at the terminal 😂 She said no at exactly the same time it beeped and went through no problem. She was like 😮
Here in Europe I've been using Google Pay for months now and I haven't come across any place that didn't accept it. Even the tiny corner store who's terminal is like 5+ years old worked with Gpay.
Very informative video, thank you. I've been using Google Pay for a couple of years now and I love it. Here in Australia, it's pretty much accepted everywhere. I find it more secure for the reason you said, my phone needs to be open to use it and only I can open my phone. I still carry my wallet with me though, mainly because of my Driver's license (digital licenses are still on trial here and I haven't been invited yet) Also, I like to carry a bit of cash on me, in case I need it. Another good reason to use Phone payments is it saves wear and tear on your card, they last longer.
Here in Australia everywhere accepts NFC or tap to pay, even in remote outback communities, asking if they support google/Apple pay is the wrong question, ask if you can tap to pay with a card instead because then apple/google pay just works
I've been in the UK and Paris and Apple Pay was widely used even in street vendors. It's ironic that here in the US, many merchants including the big ones does not support it considering Apple and Google are here.
I am in the US and was told by someone in the industry that one reason we don’t have NFC everywhere is we are early adopters of the chip and not all retailers want to spend the money (understandably) to upgrade all their terminals a second time so soon after the last upgrade.
@@brianm9331 if it’s not long since you upgraded terminals for chip cards, how are you early adopters? We had NFC cards years ago, I’ve yet to find anywhere in Australia that doesn’t take Apple Pay, I don’t bother asking, I just use it.
In Malaysia, the mobile payments are accepted every where. Even in the smallest vendor in a market. Because in Malaysia we do bank transfer (no cost, immediate transfer-no delays), mobile QR payment and NFC method payment. I would say mobile payments in Asia is quite advanced compared to the European or American counterpart. I would have no reasons to carry my wallet around nowadays.
Brazil is like this, QR payments inside bank apps (here its called PIX), and almost everyone accept NFC proximity payment (I never ask if the accept Apple pay, i ask if I can tap to pay).

We do that in Vietnam too. Almost every store has QR code and I can even scan by using the bank's app, I can even open bank accounts online without a debit card and still use the app to pay. Like why can't American just do that, it's way more convenient
Australia here.. I do not own a wallet. Have not carried a credit card in maybe 5 years... if a store takes any form of card, Apple/Google/Garmin/Fitbit whatever payment just works.

Sorry, don’t think this is true. It doesn’t cost the merchants any more, Apple charges the bank 0.15% out of the normal bank cut. That isn’t an “extremely high fee”.
@briancoogan2784 Here I am talking about two companies, and that is without mentioning all the other banks that charge fees. But above all, the most important thing in my comment is based on the fact that these companies are gradually getting bigger and bigger and have the power to censor some groups they don't like. NFC POS terminals are ubiquitous in Canada so most of the time I don't carry my wallet. For payments that exceed the NFC limit, you do need your card, but we've had chip-n-pin here for more than a decade, so this is already more secure than magstripe+signature that's still the norm in the US. I don't think I've seen any wireless POS terminals in the US at all - we've had them here for a long time.

I know that we should try to avoid a cashless society but I very rarely carry any. On the subject of wallet carrying I agree with the points made in the video. At some point I will enter a store or try to use a service where mobile payments aren't accepted even though mobile payments are widely accepted in my country.
3:54 You can store your CC info in a locked note in Notes on iPhone or OneNote on Android. You can then only access the note using biometrics / password. Availability is an issue in the US but it will eventually be solved because it **is** the future as the payment monopoly will be broken, like it is internationally. I use GPay whenever I can because I can review my purchases by merchant across all cards. This makes it really easy to find out how much I spent on groceries at the end of the month because GPay consolidates all the info for me. I don't have to look at different CC statements.
I use google pay everywhere in Canada but it fails miserably in the US. The states has always been a decade behind the trends. Still had to swipe and sign in some places
Once, about 15 years ago I went to US and for payment the did it. I was insane to me. I never use this in Brazil, I only remember when I was younger that it was a thing (swipe and sign)
I would too but in Germany there are way too many places left that only accept cash xD But at least pretty much every store accepting cards allows NFC payments
Better yet, stick to cash, except when ordering online. And do that at home. Use cash or lose it folks, we are giving these huge corporations and governments far too much information about ourselves, and hence far too much control. Remember the Canaduan truckers.
Hi cash is king for our home except on line. Just wondering what happened to the Canadian Truckers? I live far away. Seasons greetings. Best wishes from Adelaide; South Australia🇦🇺💐
@@minwade5436 - Hello from Canada! The truckers, and even just supporters, had bank accounts frozen by the Federal Government, and the banks willingly cooperated. Very sick scenario.
I use Google Pay, sometimes, but I still, carry the cards. I can see a future where I will carry one card only. As for online, PayPal does the trick in most instances.
Small tweak. Mobile wallets store a virtual card number that doesn’t change. There may however be a cryptogram involved that identifies your transaction. Think of it as a one time password. The chip on your card does something similar hashing your transaction details with a secret code on your card only your bank knows. It’s a more advanced way of proving you physically have the card on hand.
I've never asked if they accept Google Wallet in the shops in the UK. I assumed that if they accepted Chip and Pin it will work and it always has done. The banks and government have increased our tap and pay limit to £100 which I think is too high . I'm not sure if Google have increased this without the need to unlock the device or not. I would prefer the option in the app to disable payments without unlocking completely.
I guess no problem in Europe as we have been paying contactless with the NFC system for years now. I hardly ever use my creditcard (only to book plane tix and hotels) so I have a virtual debitcard on my phone. I tend to use different coats and bagpacks where I place the card (because I don't use a real wallet - no cash) so in case I don't have the plastic card I can still use my phone.
Total Google Wallet for me, and I have never had any issue here in the UK. Even paid for the food at a burger stand the other night when we were at the football.....
In the uk, if you can pay with card, you’ll be able to pay with phone.. I have been using Apple Pay for years and never been told I can’t use it... In fact, I don’t even carry my cards with me anymore
My bank provides its own app. When the app is open my phone is detected as Visa card by any NFC. App shows confirmation prompt on screen to complete payment for any amount. Phone has to be unlocked. Bank alternates between Visa and Mastercard when their contract is up for renewal. App supports adding multiple cards (personal and business). The device like the one you showed will get nothing if the app isn't on and trigger that configuration prompt when the app is on.
Here in South Africa, I use Apple pay all the time but as you've said, there are many places that don't accept it - I would guess around 50% do not accept Apple Pay, especially if I use my American express card. For some reason more places accept Mastercard. Online shopping is the worse, I've only been able to use Apple pay at one online site.
I use both. I find having it on my iPhone handy though because I can leave my physical card with my wife so she can use it to pay for dinner while I run into a store real quick for anything we forgot and pay my apple pay for the same card. You didn't mention that some banking apps let you view your card via their app and even store your CCV with it.
Here in Australia I haven’t come across a shop that didn’t accept Apple Pay I pretty well never use my wallet at all, and our drivers licence also is on our phones if you want.
Come to NZ, mobile payments in 95% of our stores....my wallet stays at home 99% of the time. If a shop does not support payeave, I generally don't shop there or use their services.
You've got to be careful with everything, i use my phone with nfc and a uk bank app, and I have my cc next to a nfc blocker card in my wallet, the only other thing I would suggest is have notifications turned on for your bank and cc so you can monitor whats going out of your account dynamically. Good video, thank you.
Guess that depends on the country. I'm in Scotland and haven't carried a physical card since Apple Pay came out a few years back. The only places that catch me out are self service petrol stations because they don't accept contactless. Probably because until Covid it was limited to £30 but now is £100 and many locations have no limit on Apple Pay/Google Pay since the technology is more secure. I was amazed when I went to the US how backwards their banking is. I used Apple Pay and they still wanted me to sign 😂 so yeah, I think it currently depends on the country you are in.
תודה, לירון! I'm leaving my physical wallet at home, most of the time. Here's in the UK&I it's available at almost all shops (99.9%) as I'm using mobile wallet for everything nearly 2 years. You're indeed right, not all countries are the same as I've had no option to use mobile payments in the US at about 50% of businesses..
Here in UK, mobile payment is everywhere. So have totally ditched my wallet. Only use my card when transaction volume is high and above the contactless value.
@@LironSegev Fully leave them at home. Have been doing it for years. Initially faced similar challenges that you described. So used to carry a bit of cash. But even that stopped during covid and now it’s just the phone. Haven’t faced any major issue and is absolutely amazing experience.
Most places here in NZ offer GooglePay and ApplePay, as do most of the bigger retailers. It is not often that I use the credit card now and cash barely ever!
3:00 In Russia, there is a law that obliges banks to set up bank terminals to accept contactless payments (including via a smartphone). Therefore, if the store has a terminal, then in any case you can pay with Apple Pay / Google Pay / Samsung Pay (before sanctions). Thanks to this, the number of places where Apple Pay is accepted (6 months after the launch) in Russia overtook the number of places in the USA (Apple Pay has been there for 2 years already). P.S. After the imposition of sanctions, almost nothing has changed (Google Pay was replaced by MirPay on Android)
Gpay and Apple Pay are all accepted all over chile all card terminal were updated to accept them and the banks ran a campain to replace all old terminal so here it's all over the place and the only time where i had problems was at a supermarket where my banks card did was not accepted but trying another card (on Gpay) worked perfect, (prepaid credit cards are sometimes not accepted at gas stations or supermarkets, but normal debit and credit cards on gpay work fine in my experience)
no issues in Canada, almost everything is NFC; cant recall the last time i ran across a terminal that didnt have tap/mobile. Only time i pull out a card is if its for something that exceeds the limits to Mobile.
As a person that using Google pay that I have nfc off until I open the wallet app that it turns nfc on automatically the making it that it's safe so nfc's off all the time until you enter the app and my phone is locket 24/7
I use only mobile pay I rarely find a business that doesn't accept it if I do I have to go somewhere else, their loss not mine there are plenty of shops out there.
I was in Portugal and Switzerland in October and almost every place (except local souvenir shops) I went to accepted Apple Pay. This was a seamless and fun experience.
@3:55 not entirely true you cannot view all credit cards in your wallet in iOS. With the Apple Card you can open the wallet and see the full "card number" which is associated with your Apple Card (which in reality is a Goldman Sachs backed Mastercard account). This ability is offered in the event you encounter a point of sale where you can't use contactless Apple Pay and don't have the physical card either. But in response to your other question, yes I continue to haul around my physical wallet as well. At 55 old habits are hard to break.
India has become a leader in digital payments using UPI (Unified payment interface). It is an instant real-time payment system developed by National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). The interface facilitates inter-bank peer-to-peer (P2P) and person-to-merchant (P2M) transactions.
It is used everywhere here in Australia. Much prefer it over just using cards for the reason you have stated that mobile pay using the phone is way more secure than a card.
Acceptance is not an issue in São Paulo, major Brazilian city. I would say if I find trouble to use NFC, credit card also would be an issue. Use it outside the major cities here is not a nightmare too, so, I think this topic has different answers depending were you address it.
Hm, I have never met a shop where I could not use my phone to pay with. And it's interesting with the online payment, that here in Hungary, it is actually prohibited to put a simple form on a webshop's UI to get credit card data. You MUST use a gateway provided by a bank etc. like Paypal, Barion, PayU, SimplePay (which is powered by a famous bank) etc. So literally there's no way here to run into these issues. 🤘🏼 Anyways, we can still carry our physical cards in a protector sleeve you have a video about, too. 💙
Thank you . I was considering using apple pay but was not sure ,now you helped me . This what i am going to do ,the main credit cards in apple pay and the one with limited funds and credit that i use for online shopping in my wallet .Thank you very much Liron . Happy holidays .
If you have the Apple Card you can get the virtual card numbers from the card details in the wallet app just giving you some more information for future.
Where I work, we accept Apple Pay, but not Google. However, I recently had two customers who attempted Apple Pay, but the payment wouldn't go through. We then had to resort to payment with their cards. I don't know what caused the failure, since the cards they used were the same ones they had set up for Apple Pay.
Not sure why there would be a major distinction made between Apple Pay and Google Pay there. They work in almost the exact same way, with the same technologies and terminal handoff...
@@suqmaddiqq Yes. One would think it should. But maybe the location hasn't work out an agreement with Google. It's like how ViSA could be accepted but Mastercard isn't or vice versa. The business hasn't set it up yet for Mastercard to work.
In South Africa, Apple Pay is expected everywhere. We don’t even ask if you accept Apple Pay. Plus all our bank support virtual card that can be replaced anytime for free
Every major supermarket or grocery stores accepts Apple or Google Pay if they accept NFC payments via credit card here in Germany. However, credit card acceptance is still lackluster outside of major retailers such as restaurants or smaller places which don’t have a high amount of customers
I have had my credit card number stolen twice in the last 5 years, think about how many people have access to your credit card number, when you order a pizza, or the guy at a sketchy gas station can take a quick picture. It's very unpleasant. Google pay with a fingerprint authentication completely eliminates this risk as far as I can tell. The worst part about having your card number stolen, is your card is disabled until you get it replaced
I’ve used Apple Pay with my maybank card from Malaysia and some retailers that use Apple Pay, some cashiers wouldn’t know that there’s a Apple Pay feature, Apple Pay uses the same tech as visa paywave
In Europe you can pay everywhere with apple pay or google pay where they accept cards. You can withdraw money from the atm with apple pay and my bank even gives me a one time credit card number for online payments, and that one I can see in the app directly. I can easily survive on apple pay alone as I can use it to withdraw money too For some reason I’m still carrying around the regular cards though 😄
Well I live in uk and the city I live in I have never find any business, not take Apple Pay. That includes restaurants and pubs even the public transport takes every contactless method there is they is only one problem we have a limit on our bank cards and if we go over that limit we have to use chip and pin because contactless will not work and some businesses will limit Apple Pay and Google pay to that amount
Here in Kuwait, Basiclly every store accept contactless payment, Just ask for a card payment not "Apple pay" or "Google pay" and it will work fine, The only places that dont accept it are those who dont accept card payments at all.
Also in many retailer here in Belgium have a QR code which you can use to pay incase you dont have your card with you or dont have apple pay. Open your bank app and just scan the code and voila.

I use google pay everywhere in Canada but it fails miserably in the US. The states has always been a decade behind the trends. Still had to swipe and sign in some places
The US seems to be the last major country that has issues with contact payments.
Once, about 15 years ago I went to US and for payment the did it. I was insane to me. I never use this in Brazil, I only remember when I was younger that it was a thing (swipe and sign)
@@alexandremoura257 Most places, in Europe and in Canada were using contact payments before the US.
In California, while most places take apple/google pay, I still take at least one card with me always.
Same
It's very interesting to see how apple pay / google pay are not that accepted throughout the US, in Europe I rarely carry my wallet
I would too but in Germany there are way too many places left that only accept cash xD
But at least pretty much every store accepting cards allows NFC payments
Idk where it’s not accepted but I live in New York and rarely use cash due to mobile payments being available everywhere including train/bus station
No.
I'll do you one better and go back even further to the bardar system. I'd just rather not have my skills tied to the feds arbitrary numbers.
I can’t stand change in my pocket! Haven’t had more than $20 in 15 years! I love credit cards!
I use Google Pay, sometimes, but I still, carry the cards. I can see a future where I will carry one card only. As for online, PayPal does the trick in most instances.
The future is already here. Its called Curve Card. Been using it for years and you can load it to Apple/Google pay.
It’s a token
with credit cards you're paying with money that doesn't exist yet so they just shouldn't exist.
I keep my credit cards in one of those sleeves that prevents the cards info from being read.
You can still get your card skimmed. I use my card anyways, but I am interested in maybe doing apple pay if I get an iPhone.
My bank Android application allows me to bind Master Card to it and pay with the phone, but not via GPay or Apple Pay, but via bank's own app.
That's awesome!!
In India, at most places, UPI is accepted even at smallest retailers.
Having it hidden in an app defeats the purpose of being able to easily access Apple wallet.
But we can use NFC in Google Pay 😅 in India too@@TransitAndTeslas
Even paid for the food at a burger stand the other night when we were at the football.....
awesome - so do you still carry your physical cards or do you leave them at home?
@@LironSegev leave them at home unless I have a specific reason that I need them... 👍
I find myself having to sign for Apple Pay a lot at restaurants. Not elsewhere thankfully.
I won't do that until my license can be included in my electronic wallet. Hopefully the state can work something out with Apple since I use an iPhone.
I don't even have a cell phone, and have no plan to ever get one. I like being able to go away ,and no body can contact me. JUST GONE.
In the Czech Republic, almost all payment terminals are contactless. So G&A pay is no problem.
Don’t use either! Always great content! Thank you Professor Segev!
@John Ringo safe only if you disable transit mode otherwise...you'll lose all your money in a few taps.
Here in UK, mobile payment is everywhere. So have totally ditched my wallet. Only use my card when transaction volume is high and above the contactless value.
So still carry the cards or leave them at hone?
@@LironSegev Fully leave them at home. Have been doing it for years. Initially faced similar challenges that you described. So used to carry a bit of cash. But even that stopped during covid and now it’s just the phone. Haven’t faced any major issue and is absolutely amazing experience.
I'm in the heavily populated south eastern area of the UK and I leave my cards at home. Never had a problem with Google Pay 👍
Most places here in NZ offer GooglePay and ApplePay, as do most of the bigger retailers. It is not often that I use the credit card now and cash barely ever!
addoption is maybe in US, here in EU every store where you can pay with card always work for Apple Pay ( idk google pay but apple yes )
Most places in the UK can accept Apple Pay or Google pay now
Gpay and Apple Pay are all accepted all over chile all card terminal were updated to accept them and the banks ran a campain to replace all old terminal so here it's all over the place and the only time where i had problems was at a supermarket where my banks card did was not accepted but trying another card (on Gpay) worked perfect, (prepaid credit cards are sometimes not accepted at gas stations or supermarkets, but normal debit and credit cards on gpay work fine in my experience)
no issues in Canada, almost everything is NFC; cant recall the last time i ran across a terminal that didnt have tap/mobile.
I don't have a wallet. Australia has great adoption for mobile payments.
Nice!
no problem with adoption in greece, every store i went to accepted NFC payments.
Here in kuwait everyone and all shops restaurants and retailers accept contactless payment and apple/googe pay
I was in Portugal and Switzerland in October and almost every place (except local souvenir shops) I went to accepted Apple Pay. This was a seamless and fun experience.
nice!
I've been using Google Pay in Australia for a while. Never had a problem. BUT still have to take my wallet for the drivers licence. 🙄
Anyways, we can still carry our physical cards in a protector sleeve you have a video about, too. 💙
Thank you . I was considering using apple pay but was not sure ,now you helped me . This what i am going to do ,the main credit cards in apple pay and the one with limited funds and credit that i use for online shopping in my wallet .Thank you very much Liron . Happy holidays .
The reason I don’t use any phone wallets is that they require wifi or data data in Canada is expensive and I am low income
what about using a virtual paypal card or using paypal online versus using ur actual credit card?
Makes perfect sense.
The real issue is that google know where, when and what you are buying a single chewingum...
And you think your credit card company doesn't? 🤔
Yes, I leave my wallet at home. I forgot the last day when i paid in cash ever since UPI facility started in India.
Every major supermarket or grocery stores accepts Apple or Google Pay if they accept NFC payments via credit card here in Germany. However, credit card acceptance is still lackluster outside of major retailers such as restaurants or smaller places which don’t have a high amount of customers
Here in Chile, almost everywhere accepts NFC payments with your phone, even small local stores! 💳
I can easily survive on apple pay alone as I can use it to withdraw money too
For some reason I’m still carrying around the regular cards though 😄
ahhh so why do you carry your cards?
Forgot my wallet and went to the store, of course I could use my watch there because, uh just because. Never said I've left the wallet.
In Sweden I rarely carry my physical credit card.
Iceland seems to be ahead of the curve compared to the USA. It was so awesome to just to use wireless payment.
I'm in the USA & Google wallet, apple pay and others are pretty much accepted every where.
Security:
Shut off the NFC when not using mobile pay.
In Australia we have it everywhere
Not a problem in UK. I even use Google Pay at a sandwich business run by two people from a trailer. Every supermarket and shop that I visit takes GP.
You’re forgetting that as a card holder, unless a transaction is made using the PIN code, we aren’t responsible for any fraudulent transactions. I know this to be true in the Uk, unsure about elsewhere
It must be at least 4 years I’ve been using my Apple Pay on my iPhone for everything.. never had a problem using it in the UK
Here Down-under, I have been using Google Pay for quite some time. My physical wallet is only for driver's licence, health care cards, and some cash.
So useful Liron! Thanks.
This was really helpful and valuable.
here in the netherlands everywhere where you can pay contactless, apple pay is supported (idk about google pay as i dont own it)
I use Google Pay in the Netherlands (werkt prima! 😉 )
That is why UPI Payment system developed in my India is more secure👍🏻
I took my debit card off. Safer using a cc. Prefer not to use Google pay but we have it for awhile in USA
