    I've used Amsoil Signature Series 0W-40 vs Mobil 1 0W-40 European Formula in my car a few months ago. Both oils were used for 5,000 miles and I observed that the Mobil 1 sheared more than the Amsoil. A normal person wouldn't tell the difference with the engine noise but I paid very close attention and I can just tell Mobil 1 sheared/degraded because the engine was running more rough, it was a bit noisier and had a raspy feeling to it. Amsoil felt the same from beginning to end of the oil's life, which is a really good thing. The chart in the end supports what I felt in my observations between the two. Used Amsoil's hot viscosity dropped 0.6 seconds. Used Mobil 1 hot viscosity dropped 1.4 seconds. This illustrates the shearing/degradation is greater in Mobil 1. Makes me wonder how much shearing takes place in the real world with multiple heat cycles, longer oil intervals, especially in car enthusiast's cars where oils will be hotter than normal. I'm glad your evidence supports what I observed and hopefully my insight contributes to the community. Great videos.

    Turns out 100% synthetic and full synthetic are the same thing. Apparently, Amsoil is a 100% blend of group 3 and group 4 base stock just like full synthetics are. Pursuant to a 1990’s law suit between Castrol and Mobil 1, courts ruled that group 3 and 4 base oils are synthetic, therefore any oil that contains one or both of those groups, regardless of proportions, can be called synthetic. So as long as Amsoil contains group 3, even if it’s 100% group 3, they can legally call it 100% synthetic. Thus, 100% synthetic and full synthetic are synonymous. You don't test engine oils on gears. Clinging to gears requires tackifiers, usually in the form of isobutylenes. Engine oils do not contain tackifiers since engines are lubricated with a pressurized oiling system. Tackiness is only important in machinery that operates by splash lubrication such as rear gears/diffs and manual transmissions. It has no relevance to an engine.

    • @OranthumLLC
      @OranthumLLC 4 года назад +3

      Almizzy Racing
      You have some fair points but you are overall.....
      Wrong.
      Most engines built before 1996 rely on splash lubrications for rockers valves and cylinder walls. Small engines still made today like the engines that will be tested and are making the used oil still use primarily splash lubrication. Also if the oil has no “tackiness “ how would it stay in the engine for cold start purposes. For the short time before the oil pressure has sent oil to all the bearing surfaces?
      Close but missing some key elements.

    • @almizzyracing8004
      @almizzyracing8004 4 года назад +1

      @@OranthumLLC All of the areas you mentioned operate in mixed and boundary lubrication where the additive package is far more important than the base oil. Tackifiers don't make the additive package work. The additives, often based in ester themselves, do that job on their own. If your oil filter has a functioning anti-drainback valve, oil will be there for the bearings when the engine is started.

    • @OranthumLLC
      @OranthumLLC 4 года назад +2

      Almizzy Racing
      Ok.....
      So you are saying that the oil does nothing and the additives do the lubricating.
      That in and if itself is true.
      The point is the “oil” being placed in the engine, any engine is a colloid fluid made up of carbon chains whether it be esters, butain chains , hexains , perifins or pentains does not really matter they are all mixed together into a specific formula. That is called oil. Mobile one Amzoil Pennzoil all have their own special mixes.
      I am not saying your factual statment is wrong . I am actualy confused as to why you claim that one oil clinging to gears does not mater.
      It does. Both to much cling and to little are bad.
      Also why does it really mater what specific part of the oil is doing the clinging the mixture as a whole is being tested.
      Last I will give you the Benefit of a brain slip while typing fast. Oil filters do not have anti drain back that is in the pump assembly. They resist flow slightly in one direction. Fuel filters do have Check valves in them oil filters do not.

      Yes you are correct. if it is not a BMW canister filter or a filter that sits at the bottom of the pump. some filters do have anti drain back some do not.
