I have a lace pelerine that I knit from plotulopi. It’s absolutely one of my favorite knits ever. It’s strange something so lightweight can be so warm. Knitting with it was unlike any other yarn I’ve worked with before. It came apart sometimes but reattached itself (spit slice) so easily it wasn’t a problem. I knit it on size 9 needles single strand. Very loosely knit in a stockinette base with a garter border that by some miracle has ZERO tendency to curl. It’s like a miracle of knitting. I love it.
This is very helpful and $25 is cheap enough for sure!! I think your sweater looks lovely on you! Its a comfy fit and that is wonderful! I am nearing the arm pit area of my cardigan soon so the sleeves will be next. I watched this video again. Thank you for posting it. This yarn is unusual and its my first time using it. I have always used spun yarns or my own spun yarn. I laughed when I opened my box of this. Glad I ordered the kit I did with 7 plates as I am going to have a lot left over based on your experience!
Me *listening to you while biding-off the bottom part of a sweater.* You *saying "i forgot to do the ribbing with a smaller needle size"* ...me *stopping in my track and realizing that's what I just did*... also me *laughing it off and saying the exact same thing as you "i'm not going to take off my 2 part ribbing bottom part of the sweater now that I'm at 5 stitches from the end of the bind-off" XD oops!* Thank you for sharing your Plötulopi experience. I was thinking of buying some to try. This video was useful!
I am knitting my fourth sweater/cardigan with plotulopi, all held double so far (I bought 2.5 kilos when in Iceland this summer). I've been wanting to try a sweater single strand. I have found the same thing regarding softness, I think lettlopi is a bit more itchy.
I completely understand how this could happen. Being that I am stickler for measuring as I go I make sure I have enough rows to flatten to check somewhat and just a few times...I checked my stitches per inch. Mine is staying at 5 stitches per inch. My pattern calls for adding two pearled stitches at the end of the first knitted row after the hem was done which was 2.5 inches of knit one pearl one rows. I skipped that so as you are supposed to crochet the band that goes down also...I want to make sure my cardigan comes out exactly right and so far it looks perfect. This said those two pearled stitches just mean that I will crochet off the knit edge to do my binding on both sides with buttons. I would not want to take apart any of what I had made...looks way to hard for me to bother with. LOL I reviewed the pattern and it does call for the crocheted edging which I knew..looked at the picture....so I didn't see the need to add 2 pearled stitches above the hem, not sure I would like that look. It would jut out. I do tend to change a pattern to suit my needs at the time.
I really love how your sweater looks! Comfy and loose is wonderful. I found the yarn to be so airy and light! I was expecting a much thicker fiber as having spun this, it was very different. Oh my after knitting the cardigan, it fit perfectly! Your use of the size 5 was right on the mark. However I had to completely change my pattern as it runs way too big for me. I had mine tear numerous times and really did measure regularly as I had watched your two videos! My gauge did run true and I trusted that. I have another sweater working for my husband and it will be done in a few days. It was so much easier with a double strand of this.
Great video, thanks. Your jumper looks wonderful! I am waiting for my main colour in Plotulopi to arrive. I plan to knit a lopapeysa for my husband. I am unsure how to swatch! I tried to swatch in the round with some handspun yarn last year and got into a right mess… Do you have any tips on how to swatch in the round with Plotulopi please? Many thanks 😊
Just pull the fiber apart at the end of the row and start it again at the beginning ; ) and make sure you have enough that you won't need to reuse the swatch! :)
Thanks for this review. So far, I have knitted 3 sweaters and although I learned a lot, I won't wear them. I knitted with superwash wool and they are too heavy and itchy. Plotulopi is very fascinating and I would like to try it out. I love the look of your sweater - simply with a design element. I also like the neckline and sleeves. Is this sweater itchy? You said it was lightweight which is nice. How hot or warm is this. I have Autumn League, Paloma and and Missoni Accomplished(Espace Tricot) patterns in my queue. The neckline of Paloma is not really my thing, but the sleeves are nice. I like how you implemented aspects of both patterns.
I’m working with Plutulopi soon and really appreciate this vlog and really appreciate your experience. Did you go with one strand or did you double strand this yarn for this sweater?
Single! There's another video where I babble about the yarn at different gauges, single and double, you might find useful. It's so great to work with, enjoy!
You used only 2½ plates for that sweater??? I'm currently on Alafoss' site and they have a Christmas sale - their yarns are half off and are $3.50 per plate. Of course there is shipping.
The structural stability of seamed garments is what usually sells me on knitting in pieces ; ) this sweater's so light I don't think they'd do much, and getting the racing stripes from collar to sleeve would be... less than easy. If you haven't seen it and are tired of adapting seamless to seamed, fringe association did a great article on how to add false seams, and they provide structure! Another option to add up your sleeve
@@mistakkesweremade Ty for the tip although I have used false seams I still prefer knitting in pieces … portability … the feeling of accomplishment. I don’t like that constant twisting or turning of the fabric that knitting in the round requires . I like the rhythm of working in a flat piece back and forth . I guess you could say I “enjoy piecework “ 😂…
Held single, 3.75mm needles. There's another episode called plotulopi where I ramble on about the fabric at different gauges, single and double stranded, etc, if you're interested
@@mistakkesweremade Thank you. You did such an amazing job with the sweater I keep coming back to this video. Got my yarn, found a pattern and I'm ready. Do you have other projects in the works?
So interesting! Thanks for sharing. I wish this yarn was available in my country.

Glad I found you! Will soon begin my first item with Plutolopi, Altheda by Jennifer Steingass. Will watch your other related video too. Thanks!

Can you share the video on how you made this? I’ve been looking for something like this forever!
I've added the 'mod your raglan' video link in the description box :) thanks for letting me know it wasn't already there!

Hard to compare to superwash without knowing the wool type and spin and weight. I don't find plotulopi itchy, but it is a rustic yarn so some do.
Btw, I go into an absurd amount of detail about plotulopi yarn in another video, it might answer your other questions better than I can in a text box
@@mistakkesweremade Thanks. After watching that video, I decided to purchase the yarn. Can't wait to get them.

only one small child?? Heheh.
But also...what other colors? That shade would not work for me, send links please!
Possibly two, if they didn't wiggle around too much

Yup. Great score!
The Paloma and other raglan sleeved sweaters have a too steep raglan line that goes down too far for a good fit.
That's why I modded it :) I've got a video on how if you're interested
I’m looking for the video on how you modified this….I’d like to make this exact sweater, it’s perfect!
Wear it in a rainstorm and hope you don't end up walking home in a belly shirt.😂😂😂
Would you say this is an argument for knitting in pieces ? So many of the never patterns are seamless.

Hi Again. For this sweater, was this held double? Also what needle size did you use?
