- Wechsel Exogen 1 tent | Pitching Demo and initial thoughts.
This is the tent I have been using for a month or so, it is a free standing geodesic tent made made by the German company Wechsel.
it is a mid price range tent for Camping, Wild Camping, Bike packing and the like.
Lightweight and packable.
I have used this tent in the forest and in the Mountains. and it survived Camping in the Rain.
It is now available from a UK supplier outdoorgearessentials.co.uk/p...
Full description.
The Exogen 1 is a freestanding hybrid tent for one person - including a vestibule. Two aluminum hubs at the poles ensure high wind stability. The inner tent of the Exogen 1 is set up first. The additional pole forms the vestibule, as soon as the fly sheet is stretched over it. For a very light weather protection, the fly sheet can be set up by using the Groundsheet. The inner tent is equipped with mosquito mesh in the doors as well as at the foot and head end. Additional inner tent pockets ensure order and offer space for otherwise odds and ends. Here you find the set up video.
The packing size is handy and optimized for BIKE PACKING. With a packing size of 45 cm length, the tent fits well in a handlebar roll. The rainproof carry bag can also be attached directly to the handlebar with straps. Moreover the carry bag is variable in length. By removing the poles, the length of the carry bag is reduced to 25 cm. This way the bag contains only the inner and outer tent. The poles can be stowed separately where they possibly fit better, e.g. in a frame bag.

It’s like the Alpkit soloist but with a side opening. Side opening so much easier to get in and change etc. great video 👍
Thanks 👍
I've had one of these for a while now and love it. You can pitch it outer first if you have the footprint, but like you I don't find inner first a problem in most conditions. Things I don't like are the position of the hanging loops in the inner (but it takes 10 minutes to sew in another one) and the pockets really sag down with anything heavy (I haven't done anything about this yet, but I think an extra peg out point would sort it). I'm also a bit more nervous about cooking inside with no ventilation right at the top. What I do like is it feels really durable for the weight, it's spacious and generally a nice place to be, great in the rain, stands up pretty well in the wind. It's a breeze to pitch, too, unless you want to bother with the ties on the outer.
I like side openers so much better. Looks like a very good tent
I've never been their biggest fan. I like the small tunnel style usually.
Brilliant review and great video 👍
Thank you! 👍
It's a great tent like it Dan 👍
Very cool. I like the design.

Awesome thank you!
Watched this enough times to convince myself along with your other vids, good work, hoping this is the perfect tent to slot in between my lanshan 1 pro and my Nortent vern 1 pc. 👍🏻
Fingers crossed!
I think it's a keeper!
its pretty solid. I've a few similar tents.
Colin gave it to me to try out. with an option to return it hmm
Top drawer review. Cheers. Looking at more on your channel. Good stuff. New subber . Atb fellmandave
Thanks Dave 👍
It be really good if had a 2way zip on the door thanks for reviewing it 👍
yes, that would be a great addition I agree.
Really good review, I like the look of this, been seriously considering it, seems a little pricey for a brand I'm not that familiar with. How do you think the quality stands up? Cheers
Thanks for the video - very useful! Are you familiar with the Banshee Pro 200 as well? That’s my current tent and I’ve been happy with it (i’m 6 feet tall) but I’m looking for something a bit lighter. Mainly just curious as to how the living space differs in practice. Thanks!
I have a banshee pro 200 (and a video on it)
it's a great tent.. tough and safe.. but I hate not being able to sit up!
@@CampLifeBushcraft thanks! Just watched it. Yeah agreed, the sloping roof means my face is close to the inner mesh which is a bit claustrophobic and I can’t sit up straight in it either. The rectangular inner on the Exogen looks better for me.
Great review. The tent looks nice with an interesting pole structure, but is it enough to fight off the competition in its price bracket ? The same specs at £200 I would definitely get it. At £350 to £400 it is perhaps over priced. Having said that, this is a subjective comment as I have no experience of this tent. All the best.
I agree with your assessment. It's probably a little bit more expensive than it should be.
Did you seam seal it before you used it in bad weather? I'm about to get the exogen 2 and wondering if it'll be necessary to seal
No I did not. I talked about it during the video I believe.
Looks akin to the Naturehike Cloud-Up 1.
similar yes.
Clever them Germans! Built in South East Asia 😊
Really interesting, do they do a 2 man version?
Yes they do , double door on those just under 2kg will be stocking them as well (outdoor gear essentials)
Vango F10 ul 2 is better and cheaper.
