I picked up a used BFK at a pawn shop about a year ago and it had "welders slag" pits on the original crystal, upon reviewing your video, I ordered the exact Crystal from Crystal Times and did the same procedure as you. Excellent job my friend and I would not have attempted it if it wasn't for your post. I now have a watch I love to put into my rotation and I just ordered a Double Dome Crystal with red AR for my SKX009. Thanks for the detailed info as well as posting your process.
Hi, I tried a similar operation but I'm a little confused. Under the bezel I've found a o-ring that was around the upper margin of the crystal. You seem not to have that o-ring. Why is that?
Excellent work! I recommend you add a friction ball and dust blower to your tool collection if you plan to do future swaps on other watches. Also, a case holder would help securing the watch in your hand. I have two BFK's and was wondering about the power reserve button, but you've shown that it's not an obstacle in removing the movement from the case. Thanx for that. p.s, I caught your post in the WUS forums about this vid. Cool job. also, check out Minitwatch and his crystal swap videos, he's pretty cool :)
Thanks for that, yeah I would have liked to have a little air puffer for dust, but I managed to do it clean. Just have to check very carefully before closing it up. I saw a kit on eBay when I got my tools which included all the things you suggest, I almost got it, but it didn't include the crystal press so I just went cheap and got the press and case back opener separately cheaper. The biggest challenge apart from knowing when to stop pressing the crystal, was getting the movement back in perfectly aligned with the chapter ring the first time, as the chapter ring moves easily, it can be tricky.
What scared me the most was when you stood up and put all your weight on the crystal to make sure it was in properly. Definitely didn’t need that much pressure lol. I’ve replaced a couple of monster crystals and wanted to see if replacing them on the BFK was any different. I’m not sure if you needed to remove the bezel, I know you don’t on the monsters.
What about the seal? How do you know the new crystal will have the 100m water resistance? It is only a friction fit, no sealant of any kind was applied.
I realise this video is 7 years old but I'm doing this job on my watch right now but...... couldn't watch it because of the number of kitchen knives under that bezel ring. Buddy, $4 would have got you a proper case knife instead of a potential trip to ED. Thanks for the effort though.
True aye! But look at all the other fancy stuff I had! Even a flippin’ finger condom! If I had of used a proppa case knife no one would have believed I was DIY in my bedroom!
Another crystal installment video that completely leaves out the crystal gasket. Which side goes up, which side down, how to press so you don’t harm the gasket. I mean really how can you leave that out.
I’m no pro sorry. I asked the crystal supplier for instructions and he said I wouldn’t need a gasket as my watch was only a few months old. As for which side is up or down, I can’t remember how I made that decision at all.
I won't say that you made it look easy but I give you credit for not being afraid to film your first time. Helpful vid - thanks!
Thanks!

thank you Glen. Just bought this watch and wanted to do exactly this. Shame you have to remove the bezel - looks difficult.
Who else was making a face when that knife was under the bezel?
I was kringing when the knives came out. Thanks Glenn Edwards “Scissor hands” for the great video.

That was awesome! Well done.
I thought you were going to get up onto the table and stand on the press for a second
Where did you get the crystal? I see Crystal Times. What is the size and thickness?
Great video - Where can I find crystals for the BFK?
That looks fantastic..! How is that a $200 watch + whatever the sapphire crystal costs..

Wich strap you have on the watch? Grtz Jan
Use a bigger knife. I use a carving knife or something sharp that flares out thicker for easy leverage.
between 8:37 and 10:07 of the video... nice bend in the lever of your press.....
Lovely
