I just picked this amp up this week - absolutely unreal amplifier and the perfect compliment to my Shiva 20th - its just unreal - I highly highly recommend it.
Great Demo Doug. Love all your demos and playing in general . I have been using this amp since November and it is one of my favorite amps ever. This and the Uber Ultra rock my world. I have a Pandora too so it is a trifecta but I really enjoyed your demo!!!
Very cool amp. If that’s the little brother to the original Helios, it doesn’t seem to quite have the bite, articulation, or “percussiveness” of its big brother, but it still sounded very, very good. Especially, with the LP. And, Doug’s classic rock-esq riffs are why I come to listen to these demo’s. I could listen to that all day long.
It's not a "little brother" per-se. Original Helios is based on late 60's and early-to-mid 70's JMP circuit Marshalls with EL34 power tubes. This Helios is based on the early 60's JTM 45 circuits which ran KT66 power tubes. The 2x12 combo version was what became known as the "Bluesbreaker" amp due to Clapton's use of one in John Mayall's [r.i.p.] band called "John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers".
@ That’s interesting…. Because I like the tone of the 100w Helios a lot. VERY percussive amp, which for my rhythm playing is what I prefer. Punch, percussive, and crips. But, with your description this amp sounds like it would compare with a Dirty Shirley?? That was supposed to be based on that JTM circuit, and I’m a big fan of that amp a well. I’ve never been a Bog fan, but I’d love to get the Helios series in front of me.
I have 4 bogners and a fish preamp...this amp is better than any stock marshall ever made. Destroyed the Friedman plex...small box etc. . Between this and my Caswell modded marshall I can nail any marshall tones worth playing. Great bogner. I'm not an xtc or Shiva fan. But love the rest. Reinhold is a genius
I love the Bogner amps and have used a Helios Eclipse for years, but I somehow missed this model(?) Not sure how that happened. Now the Snorkler is out ... and the Pandora a couple of years back. Tons of great amps coming out of that shop.
Bogners just have that mojo of a hot rod Marshall with that unique, musical midrange, mixed with maybe a Fender Super Reverb, on the shimmery cleans..that you can only get with the Bogner circuit..Shiva, Duende, Ecstacy, Helios..if you’re an expressive hard rock rythym or lead guitarist… this is what dreams are made of! Play one or own one, you will see!
interesting... I really didn't care for the sound of this amp on it's own. I only stuck around because Doug is such a badass. But when I heard it in a track I was very impressed with the sound.
