And then for 1 red & 1 white u can basically referees protection. Exile Legions, then exile all creatures and bring them back at the next combat phase. And they gain haste. Hi!! Big Brion Stoutarm edh player here!! It's my first and favorite deck, and I used wheels for card draw and then when smothering tithe came along the power level of my deck shot way up! And now Feather, the Redeemed! So excited for Boros moving forward!
I have had a FS/SS deck for about a year now. Your deck reminds me of the first draft I made a few months ago. Right now my version is Boros Lifegain Control: boardwipes and multi targeted removal (EX: Return to Dust). Actual numbers: 18 Removal spells and 13 wipes. using 2+ for 1 spells really help with card advantage when consistent card draw is hard to find. I hardy find myself low on cards because I only play 1 or 2 spells a turn. Win cons - Aetherflux Reservoir, Felidar Sovereign, Test of Endurance, Rings of Brighthearth/Basalt Monolith combo into a quake. It's pretty straight forward to play: Early game is 80% ramp using your life as a buffer, mid and late game is just wiping and setting everyone back and stalling the game out until I get a win con. Most life I have had in a single game: 501 If you actually got this far: Sunforger can search out Settle the Wreckage =]
I want to say for a long time that I am such a big fan of of your show and you both make my week better. I do have a favourite Boros Commander, Aurelia, the Warleader. Comboless. That is all about attack triggers. I like the value base deck and that is the way I found to find Value in Boros. Big thanks, and also want to say that hope that one day you guys come here to Brazil play some Commander and meet our culture.
Card draw could be solved by the cards that have a cost of discarding a card and draw two (like Wild Guess). Also, Red *does* have a board wipe from Judgment. And, in the Judgment block, you also have Browbeat as a card draw spell. Cathartic Reunion (Kaladesh) also could fill that gap as well.
Lightning helix actually deals 9 and gains 6. FSSS gives the spell lifelink, so there are 2 separate instances of a white spell gaining you life and so it deals 3 more damage twice for a total of 9 damage and 6 life.
If you copy an extra turn spell, the copy resolves first and adds an extra turn after this one, then the original spell resolves and adds an extra turn after this one, pushing yours back.
At 17:30 , talking about lightning helix, it actually deal 9 and heal for 6 , because the healing from lifelink and from the spell are separate and proc firesong second ability twice :)
On the subject of smothering tithe, I built a smothering wheels deck a few months ago. And boom, man is it powerful to be able to consistently wheel and wheel and wheel with a smothering tithe on the feild. My new favorite deck
I had no intention of Trolling Josh. I wanted him to build a Good Boros deck. He's a good Deckbuilder and it's my favorite Guild. It made me sad all those times when he said it was so bad. I'm glad he liked it.
Dark is another great Netflix mystery/sci-fi show! It's German so you have to be cool with subtitles but I couldn't stop watching it and can't wait for the second season.
For those that don't know, Spiritualize is basically a one card infinite combo with Firesong and Sunspeaker (not that you need those on game nights but I like having it in case other people are running infinite combos) and even when you don't use it as a wind condition, it's still a really solid card. Oh and you can fish it out of the deck with Sunforger ;] Another couple of great cards: Basilisk Collar (lifelink+deathtouch means your Firesong and Sunspeaker triggers are killing anything they shoot and giving you extra lifegain. Reaping the Rewards is another solid card, great finisher that lets you shock something for one white basically over and over.
One of my favorite decks is a Boros Kalemne deck that uses Eldrazi as the big win condition (as well as occasionally stapling enough pants onto Kalemne to 21+ an unexpecting opponent out of the game). Smothering Tithe has been a HUGE impact on that deck; especially with what little card-draw I have being in that deck sometimes helping opponents (a lot less likely to get nothing out of an opponent's turn while howling mine in is play with smothering tithe). Really looking forward to building the Feather deck
Firesong and Sunspeaker is actually my favorite Boros commander atm. And was my very first commander deck. Still tweaking it and this Game Knights definitely helped me narrow some things down.
I built a Firesong deck when I first learned about him. Although I lost to commander damage from my opponent, it was fun to cast Chain Reaction against a token deck and gain ~3000 life. The satisfaction of the moment is honestly better than winning in some cases. Laughs and good moments are worth more than wins in my play group
Kaya's Immolating Infetno. X to up to 3 targets. Then Sunforger to Reverberate. Leonin Shikari. (Instant speed equip) Puresteel Paladin. (Equip cost =0) Reequip Sunforger at instant speed for free! Been playing this for years. So fun. Also Rebuff the Wicked
With sunspeaker, lightning helix does a total of 9: 3 from the spell its self, 3 from firesong from the lifelink, then, another 3 from the gain 3 effect
Or Comeuppance. It was a beautiful thing. "Aetherflux. Response?" I look at counter in hand, playing Isperia, Supreme Judge. "Nope". "Okay. I activate and pay 50 of my 87 life, dealing 50 to you". "Nope, Comeuppance and you die."
I think you should do a budget game knight as most people can't afford a lot the awesome cards that are played. I'd certainly be interested in a deck made by you guys for less than $/£100ish with loads of affordable but cool cards
I kind of want to see a well made 5 color with some of the cards like Smothering tithe and the one for extra turns and all of that great stuff that could combo and make alot of mana, copy spells, Kill Everything/Your Opponents, Well also being able to Counter and Protect Your Stuff. That would be so op It would probably either otk (one turn kill), or just win or Alternatively it could fail with out the right cards or worse you cant get anything out because you have no mana or anything. It seems like it could be a major all or nothing deck that would be a interesting concept to see or play for me at least.
I’m playing this as my main deck, and honestly it’s so fun. I’ve been trying out a more health based deck rather than a counter one. With well of lost dreams and aetherflux reservoir, you can basically slurp health, draw loads of cards and blow up opponents for fun. Not pulled it off yet, but I will.. 😂
if you want a strong add on, you should look into Radiate. 3rr instant, basically, for everything that target instant or sorcery COULD copy, make a copy of that spell that does target it. so, few neat interactions. a player Paths a creature, now EVERY creature is getting exiled. but the really cool interaction comes from FS&SS, lets say you cast Lightning Helix. normally it's just gonna hit for three and gain you life twice, so fs&ss gets two triggers, dealing a total of 9 damage. with Radiate, you copy it for every target, so even with only fs&ss on the board in a 4 player game, you net 27 life, deal 3 damage to each player and fs&ss, then fs&ss gets 10 triggers, for a total of 30 damage to any target.
Working on a similar deck. Feather with stuffy doll effects (boros reckoner, spitemare, mogg fanatic) with nasty recurrable instants. Damage based removal and sweepers. The en-kor guys can redirect damage and still get your stuff back.
Couldn’t agree more about smothering tide... and that boros/red and white both need more cards like that to improve.. I love being able to finally make mono white decks and not being entirely mana screwed 😳😬 lol
Boros is my favorite color combination and the old Gisela is my favorite creature in the game, naturally I have that deck. It's not the best deck but it's loaded with all my favorite cards and favorite things to do so I'm happy with it and with impulse draw and other such effects I never feel like I'm just out of luck on draw. That said my first decks were all red and white and full of combat tricks, so Feather is getting a deck as soon as possible.
I finally got my first great Etali hit just the other night while playing my Xenagos deck. Got myself a free Elspeth. Next turn I used heroic intervention to protect my creatures and then board wiped with Elspeth since my creatures were indestructible anyway.
Aurelia the warleader with a voltron-Esque style. Bunch of good equipments to swing in. One time I summoned her with blackblade reforged on the field and took someone out with commander damage on turn 5.
I agree Mana Tithe is bad but a couple of cards that would have taken Sunforger to the next level is Tithe and Mistveil Plains. Tithe is an instant for only a white that always allows you to get Mistveil Plains and if you're on fewer lands it'll grab another land allowing more card advantage. Mistveil Plains allows you to put any card from your graveyard on the bottom of your library to the bottom of your deck if you tap it and a white and have at least two white permanents (which you had). You could have easily one that game as you can keep reusing things like fork and reverberate with Mistveil Plains and Sunforger and Tithe would have easily allowed you to get that loop setup.
I love this deck. It's almost identical to mine XD. Never thought I'd love playing boros so much. My deck however ramps very well with pleanty of recovery spells to rebuild after board wipe after board wipe. Cant wait to add Feather to it.
Josh, I participated in crowd-trolling you to watch you play Boros, but I knew you would put together an interesting deck with fun synergy. And I was curious to see what Boros could do aside from an annoying aggro strategy.
A cool enough tech for the "Sunforger Package" that I noticed you didn't use in your deck (nor mentioned it on the video) is the Mistveil Plains. With it, you can put instants back into the deck so you can re use them with Sunforger over and over. I believe it's a worth inclusion in decks running a strong Sunforger theme. If you guys disagree, let me know why.
Why is everyone forgetting Depala pilot exemplar is a boros commander that gives you cards?? Sure they’re dwarves and vehicles, but that just lets you go for artifacts matters aaaand it makes Sram a perfect fit for even more draws!
Love my depala deck. Board wipes for days and i run several gideons to crew my big vehicles. Wipe all creatures but my side isnt creatures.... yet muhahahaha. Cant wait to throw in mizzium tank and parheilion.
So much talk about red burn spells in this deck and no mention of Gisela, blade of goldnight. The 7 mana W/R angel that doubles damage to all opponents and halves damage to you (including permanents)?? I haven't checked the deck list so I assume it's in there, but definitely worth mentioning in this video. EDIT: Nope, this wasn't in the deck. It's an incredible way to double the damage dealt with all the burn spells, protect your commander from your own spells and then have two amazing blockers on the field (commander + Gisela).
Gisela is an auto include in any Boros deck I think. So much power in the card! Looking at Josh's deck list it's clear he didn't look at any Boros creatures, he just added the mana ramp ones he knew about plus Boros Reckoner and the other reflective one.
I don't really like Mana tithe either, but it's strength lies in when your play group knows your deck. It creates mind games where they wait a turn to have an extra mana to play their spell. Then once it's done some work you take it out of your deck :) I find mono white stronger than Boros
My Boros deck is Brion Stoutarm and I love him. Also may I recommend darksteel plate for your deck? Keeping that commander alive through board wipe damage spells is gonna help
My favorite Boros deck would be my own Gisela deck. It's a deck based around doubling damage and either Malignus or Heartless Hidetsugu. As for mana, I of course have Smothering Tithe, but I also have Curse of Opulence, Sword of the Animist, and Captain Lannery Storm. The real MVP in the deck, though, is Chance for Glory.
I think we have almost reached a critical mass of good enough Boros cards. I think the only this missing is a scalable commander that is cheaper than 6 mana. Feather is quite good, but she takes a looooooot of work.
you can still aetherflux in the new Feather boros deck, you just use Volcano Hellion and give it lifelink with an instant, and gain arbitrarily large life. I think Boros is quite good, but so much of the strong stuff is just, unfun. one turn kills, very very long loops, land destruction.
Surprised there's no mention of the OG Fork, but even more surprised that there's no Star of Extinction in here. Seems like an easy way to gain 200+ life in one go.
i got a firesong and sunspeaker deck and i love it. i use some cards to protect my commander though so i do not blow them up myself Rune-Tail, Kitsune Ascendant Light of Sanction Mark of Asylum and next set i will put in The Wanderer :D
Hey would you guys ever consider doing an edh deck collection video like DJ has done on his channel? I know I'm not the only one who would love to see the decks you've built!
I think Josh forgot about the time he cast Lapse of Certainty on Elesh Norn and didnt have a plan to stop it when he says "I've never cast this card worried about them drawing it again"
My brother runs a mono white micheko konda deck and had smothering tithe and minds eye and ends up drawing more cards on average than our metas blue deck these two cards really make his deck tick
Love the content guys. Have you all heard of the Oathbreaker format? Would love to see a vid of this in the future if possible, it looks super fun and games seem faster than commander games.
For me the biggest problem with Boros are the commanders. Most of them are pretty straight foward and similar with each other. I think that with more commanders with different abilities and playstyles coming the colour should be fine!
Couple of other fun cards i have in my build. Hostility. Nothing beats using a big burn card and just flooding hundreds of tokens with haste. Same with blaze commando only your board wipe will still wipe the board. And felidar soverign if you can somehow survive with a massive target on your back for an entire round.
I use Cleansing Meditation in my current incarnation of Yennet Aura-Tron as a way to get a little ahead and reassign enchantments. It will bring back the Auras and attach them, getting around Shroud and protections. BTW, Sunforger went from .60-$1 to ~$7 after Feather got spoiled. Hammer time? EDIT: I think Teferi's Protection is super over-rated. I just sold mine actually. I've never had it do something some other cards can't do, and sometimes better. It's not really as great in my opinion as the price says it is.
I build Feather, the Redeemed on the night she was revealed. I have an Aurelia the Warleader deck, and a Gisela burn deck wich is similar to this one. I already knew Boros can be good if build well, I'm glad about the fact that Boros is becoming popular.... I'm not happy about all the staples spiking now.
I kinda want to build Tiana, Ship's Caretaker and use Enchantments and Equipments that can sac themselves for effects like damage(Blazing Torch) and exile(choking restraint) then recur them at the end of turn. Not sure how would that deck performs in multiplayer but I do agree to the fact that boros have really issues card draw and ramp.
This was 2019. I was still playing Magic. Now its 2024. Powercreep has gone bananas (and I have taken a break but am thinkingabout getting back in the game). I wonder how Boros 2024 does.
My very first EDH deck was Brion Stoutarm. It can be very strong! but of course suffers from the boros problems. it hits hard, gains tons of life, BUT can run out of steam.
I was going to build a stout arm edh deck for boros, but now it's definitely going to be feather. Already pre ordered... I still think stout arm could do well, too. Buuuut, I'm so biased to any sacrifice themes... most of my decks are based on those effects
Thoughts on using Azor's Gateway? The reward can be huge but it takes a while to set up. Also, I reccomend including the red enchantment "Dual Casting". Having that and sunforger on firesong and sunspeaker allows some fun versatility.
Josh, one other card you might wanna look into is a red instant called "Mage's Contest". 3 mana (2 of it red). "You and target spell's controller bid life. You start the bidding at 1. In turn order each player may top the high bid. The bidding ends if the high bid stands. The high bidder loses life equal to the high bid. If you win the bidding, counter that spell." It can vary in effectiveness by commander, but with the life youre gaining in firesong and sunspeaker, it shouldnt be a problem.
Luckily got my Feather deck all ready! Saw the preview and luckily had most of the cards I needed and then ordered the rest before they went up in price and down in stock 👌🏽😎
JLK: Ive never played lapse of certainty and sent a card to the top of the opponents deck where I thought itd matter Me, remembering when he used Lapse of certainty in his emmara deck against craigs Elesh Norn, and how he was freaking out over Elesh Norn's return: =_= Bullshit josh.
I have a Firesong and Sunspeaker deck too. According to the WotC rules page Lightning Helix triggers his second ability twice, since the red part of the spell is gaining you life and it triggers as if the white part gained you life, and then triggers again for the explicit life gain. Same love all the boros burn cards in the deck. Deafening clairion especially.
Lightning helix is deal 9 gain 6. The lifelink and life gain are two separate triggers plus the actual damage of the spell
Yeah whoops - said that wrong in the episode. Apologies - my mistake! -JLK

Oh thats cool
I don’t think the deck would have gotten there without Sunforger and Smothering Tithe.

Watching that deck on game knights gave me hope for boros. Then Feather was announced and the stars aligned. Already putting my list together.
Josh, did you purposely not win at 15 minutes into game knights for cinematic purposes?
That much is obvious
That game would have been like 20 mins max
For those that don't know, Spiritualize is basically a one card infinite combo with Firesong and Sunspeaker (not that you need those on game nights but I like having it in case other people are running infinite combos) and even when you don't use it as a wind condition, it's still a really solid card. Oh and you can fish it out of the deck with Sunforger ;]
Another couple of great cards: Basilisk Collar (lifelink+deathtouch means your Firesong and Sunspeaker triggers are killing anything they shoot and giving you extra lifegain. Reaping the Rewards is another solid card, great finisher that lets you shock something for one white basically over and over.
Josh you *literally* made smothering tide *spike* in price. Nice job.
Nothing to do with him. It's just a perfect white card.
I totally forgot I got paid yesterday so I can totally order my new Mono-Green deck 😮 That's only relevant because I use your affiliate link 😄
With sunspeaker, lightning helix does a total of 9: 3 from the spell its self, 3 from firesong from the lifelink, then, another 3 from the gain 3 effect
When someone hits you with Aetherflux, but you have Deflecting Palm!
I highly recommend checking out a channel called Commander's Quarters.
One of the best budget deck channels out there.
@@project_swift Oh absolutely, I watch most of those just for fun. I'd just like to see these guys to their thing with interesting cheaper cards
I played a deck similar to this, and my opponent played infinite 1/1’s and I played earthquake and got infinite life and won off that
I kind of want to see a well made 5 color with some of the cards like Smothering tithe and the one for extra turns and all of that great stuff that could combo and make alot of mana, copy spells, Kill Everything/Your Opponents, Well also being able to Counter and Protect Your Stuff.
finally ive been waiting for this one loved the episode of gameknights with this deck
Funny story, right before yall put out the video with this deck in it I had just begun to Brew a Firesong and Sunspeaker Stax/Burn deck
Am I the only one who saw the “Patron Name - You Rock!” As the banner animation disappeared?
Either way, love your content guys! Keep it up!
I've noticed that jaya ballard, especially with the amount of board wipe effects, is very good.
if you want a strong add on, you should look into Radiate.
3rr instant, basically, for everything that target instant or sorcery COULD copy, make a copy of that spell that does target it.
so, few neat interactions. a player Paths a creature, now EVERY creature is getting exiled.
but the really cool interaction comes from FS&SS, lets say you cast Lightning Helix. normally it's just gonna hit for three and gain you life twice, so fs&ss gets two triggers, dealing a total of 9 damage. with Radiate, you copy it for every target, so even with only fs&ss on the board in a 4 player game, you net 27 life, deal 3 damage to each player and fs&ss, then fs&ss gets 10 triggers, for a total of 30 damage to any target.
aurelia the warleader is a pretty sweet boros commander, and jor kadeen is fun if like artifacts/artifact tokens
Working on a similar deck. Feather with stuffy doll effects (boros reckoner, spitemare, mogg fanatic) with nasty recurrable instants. Damage based removal and sweepers. The en-kor guys can redirect damage and still get your stuff back.
What about extra turns? Are we gonna see some more of that. It was soooo good i want to see more. Extra turns #2 is one i still go to for a good time
Couldn’t agree more about smothering tide... and that boros/red and white both need more cards like that to improve.. I love being able to finally make mono white decks and not being entirely mana screwed 😳😬 lol
You guys are so mellow, always making my days a bit more fun, thanks!
4:00
Gene Gene you are a hero
Da real mvp
I built a Firesong deck, and I included Mirrorpool as a land to give you another way to copy a spell.
Yuuuup. My version runs Gisela and she is the mvp of that deck.
Then once it's done some work you take it out of your deck :)
I find mono white stronger than Boros
In my experience "well of lost dreams" has been my favorite card in this deck.
I have a Kalemne deck. Boros is a weak color pair, but yes Smothering Tithe is an all-star in the deck. I see it becoming hard staple in white.
Seems like an easy way to gain 200+ life in one go.
both the new gerrard, weatherlight hero and tajic, legion's edge would make some sense in here as well to make your creatures boardwipe proof
i got a firesong and sunspeaker deck and i love it. i use some cards to protect my commander though so i do not blow them up myself
Rune-Tail, Kitsune Ascendant
Light of Sanction
Mark of Asylum
and next set i will put in The Wanderer :D
Hey would you guys ever consider doing an edh deck collection video like DJ has done on his channel? I know I'm not the only one who would love to see the decks you've built!
My wife walked down the aisle at our wedding to "He comes the sun" :)
I think Josh forgot about the time he cast Lapse of Certainty on Elesh Norn and didnt have a plan to stop it when he says "I've never cast this card worried about them drawing it again"
I have an awesome Gisela deck. It’s a little slow but once it starts rolling it’s unstoppable (almost).
My brother runs a mono white micheko konda deck and had smothering tithe and minds eye and ends up drawing more cards on average than our metas blue deck these two cards really make his deck tick
Rebuff the Wicked is a great one mana white counter to protect Sunforger, Aeherflux, Tithe or the Commander.
Love the content guys. Have you all heard of the Oathbreaker format? Would love to see a vid of this in the future if possible, it looks super fun and games seem faster than commander games.
Treasure map pairs perfectly with smothering tithe for the complimentary card draw!
Or you get it out with electro dominance during your opponents endstep, gaining the last 6 life you needed to get over 40 and win.
I play a version of Boros Avacyn control inspired by the budget list from mtggoldfidh. It's a very fun deck to play with a powerful sunforger package.
With the Stuffy Doll you add Pariah Shield and Fleecemane Lion.
Smothering tithe is also very very very good with boros/mardu/azorius ... artifact decks :).
We need like a red white draw spell
39:44, online orders do not get Buy-a-Box promos, afaik
This was 2019. I was still playing Magic.
Now its 2024. Powercreep has gone bananas (and I have taken a break but am thinkingabout getting back in the game). I wonder how Boros 2024 does.
My very first EDH deck was Brion Stoutarm. It can be very strong! but of course suffers from the boros problems. it hits hard, gains tons of life, BUT can run out of steam.
Building myself a Feather, the Redeemed deck, easily going to be my favorite boros commander
I already brewed my Feather deck, I'm just waiting for the cards and the set to come out!
24:45 yep you should have take the Orzhow player at the beginning
The show is so much better with Jimmy wong. Things that he does makes me happy or makes me laugh. The ash lin rose part at the end was great.
JLK: Ive never played lapse of certainty and sent a card to the top of the opponents deck where I thought itd matter
Me, remembering when he used Lapse of certainty in his emmara deck against craigs Elesh Norn, and how he was freaking out over Elesh Norn's return: =_= Bullshit josh.
You guys should do new WAR card Feather for Boros hype train
30:43, Josh, no. You Armageddon, into Boros Charm, particularly when playing Gaby ;P. [/p.s. Sorry Gaby, much love from a LRR fan XD;.]
