Thanks so much for posting this. Just what I needed to know, and in a short and concise format, now I can get straight to that elastic! 😊
Our pleasure.
Thank you for making this video. I don't have a sewing machine but have always wanted to sew. Therefore, my only way to go is hand-sewing. So I'm very grateful for what you've done here. :)
I'm so glad it's helpful. Xxx
going to use this to repair some jacket cuffs! thank you!
Thank you, this was very helpful and clear.
Brilliant
Amazing ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
This is spiritual
I’m so happy I found this tutorial. I’ve been looking online on how to hand sew Elastic bands and this is the only great video I found. I also don’t have a sewing machine😭. This tutorial is so on point and I can follow along with your way on sewing elastic band. Thank you❤️
One of the most clear sewing videos I've seen. Simple, to the point, well-composed and edited! 👍
Thank you. x
YES!
Learning how to sew helps😊💕
cant believe this video doesnt have more likes!! this vid is amazing i couldnt get it down till i almost gave up and saw ur video if only u showed how to end the stitch lol
Karlee Kakes thank you so much. Just a basic knot to finish it off. Xxx
Thank you for this! Simple and easy to understand.😊 The other videos I found were confusing or used a sewing machine.😅 Unfortunately I have no idea how to use mine so I'm sticking with hand sewing for now. I really need this for some garments I've been wanting to create. 😁 Also, if you had one on hand, you could use an embroidery hoop to stretch the fabric/elastic/anything that needs to be held taut. It can be a bit troublesome to get it in there at first but it does work!
We're so glad you found the video useful and a huge thank you for the great tip. X
It’s interesting because all these skirt videos seem to just want to fold over the cloth and make a tunnel for the elastic. I feel like I’m missing something, and maybe this is it
Sounds like they wanted you to sew a stretched elastic to the ends of the skirt so that it the fabric bunches up when the elastic is at its normal length.
Did you use a normal thread? Or those strechable one?
Hi. It's a non stretch thread. I used a thick embroidery thread to make it easier to see in the video. You can do this stitch much smaller with thinner thread thread too.
Alice's Bear Shop thank you :)
I'm incredibly "novicely" (new word lol) attempting to make a simple neck gaiter for a mask. Being you need stretchy material, I wasn't sure how to sew it! So, thank you for your help!
Thank you so much, I dont own a sewing machine and I do Spider-man cosplays and theres a ripped stitch in the seam of the arm, now I can do something about it 😂
Would this stitch be good for hand sewing jersey knit fabric shirt?
Hi Anthony Weber. I've not used it for that. You'd need to work much smaller. I'd love to know how you get on.
Alice's Bear Shop Do you mean make each stitch shorter?
Anthony Weber yes, shorter and narrower. Just scale it right down from the tutorial
Alice's Bear Shop Okay, thanks!
I was planning on making a pillow out of a t-shirt and google recommended a zig zag stitch. I haven’t sewed anything before and this was very helpful! Thank you :3
is this the zig zag stitch for finishing edges, or just for sewing elastic? this is the best video i’ve found, but it doesn’t look like other zig zag stitches i’ve seen. Thanks!
THANK YOU! i've been stuck on a project for so long, needing to hand sew elastic [on doll scale!]. i kept searching and, until your video, everyone kept using sewing machines with no mention of hand sewing, let alone which stitch to us! thank you again for such a straight forward video
Our pleasure. We do doll outfits and realise that not everyone uses a machine. X
This is the single best instructional video I’ve seen. Thank you! I finally get it.
Absolutely brilliant. Thank you. I could see exactly what you were doing and you explained it simply unlike other tutorials I’ve looked at.
Thank you so much! This video was very clear, and straght to the point, it really helped!
thx :)
Thank you very much! so helpful!
this was very helpful thank you!
Can you do this on paper?
Thank you so much, I'll definitely try it! :)
Always a pleasure to listen to that sweet voice of yours!
Ah, for the first time in my life, I know how to sew elastic to allow it to stretch! I've been doing it all wrong. I don't have a sewing machine and I do everything by hand.
Thank you so much! I have been wondering how to replace worn out elastic for years. Finally came across your nice, short, and very well explained video.
Thank you so much. Now I know.
I was looking all over 😭
Where can i use this hem?
Thanks for the video. It was easy to follow and worked well for my project.
SO HELPFUL! Thank you so much for making this such a simple and easy-to-follow video!! 💖
I haven't seen that box technique before, incredibly helpful!

My pleasure. X
This is so helpful thank you
I’m needing to take in a (one piece) swim suit from the sides, where it lays over my torso. Would I be able to use a back stitch? Or should I be using this type of stitch even though I’m not sewing an elastic band? Would really appreciate your help! =)
Hi. When you say it lays over your torso is the seam from left to right across your body or down , top to bottom?
Alice's Bear Shop the seams are vertical, top to bottom. It starts in the underarm area and stops at the pelvic bone on either side.
Simple and right to the point. Love it.
This was amazing! Thank you for teaching me something new :D
Wow😃😃😃😀😗😙😚
Life saver is what you are ❤❤❤💜💜💜💖💖💖
So glad it was useful. X
Its not zigzag stitch its catch stitch
We call it Zig Zag in the UK.
Thanks for showing me hand zig zag stitch as I may need this information as my old sewing machine don't have zig zag stitch as far as I know I got to look so may have to do via hand sewing as it's stretch fabric I'm working with
