When I first saw this I was like “wow! This is so cool!” and never realized how much work and frustration this must’ve taken you. Now I want to try animation and I’d like to thank this video for it.

Me: the USB in spiderverse broke in one fall
I KNOW
to be fair, miles fell at least 20-30 feet and landed right on the edge of a curb, landing perfectly on the usb somehow and it cracked due to the force of gravity + his weight onto a bent surface area. these's girls are kinda just tossing the usb around, although it will have scratches on it and may have issues being used due to the metal scraping against concrete.
This must be a sandisk one.

The storytelling is the classic "stuff, then a fight, and like, a twist I guess?" style, popular with every 15 year old who was into stick figure animations a few years back (including myself) but the animation is, no one needs me to tell them, incredibly competent.

@@Ramsey276one because sometimes it ruins the shape of our body in jeans, shorts, and sometimes skirts, however there is this one time where we find that one clothing that you can fit a small item or two in the pockets, and for that we praise the hell out of that brand for making the clothing item

Thinking about it. This is what RWBY would have looked like with Monty's style if the key animators were still around and moved onto a new animation app.
If you look at each movement during first contact and later on.
Tbh... I don't think so. Putting the characters design aside, the animation in this short is very good when compare it to alot of companies whom chug episode out every week. But when it come to monty, it doesnt come close. The choreographed is good but the animation feel floaty. Each punch and kick doesn't look heavy. It akin more to a push from one character to another. Monty's rwby has that weight to every slash and shot.
It like those animation of character breaking a wall. This is like one those that make the wall feel like it made of styrofoam. While monty's animation feel like the wall make out of brick when broken into.

Eh, I don't really agree. The two styles are fairly different in my opinion. Monty often focused on introducing new ideas, environments, and setpeices which would be utilized and evolved upon before wrapping things up with an explosive finale. Dillon's animation here is more focused on the idea of continuous momentum and back and forth flow of the fight. If you're looking for a similar style to Monty's, I'd recommend checking out Mark Zhang here on RUclips.
This isn't to say that either style is inherently better or worse than the other, just different.

To anyone interested in taking the course:
Im taking it right now and I heavly recommend you only take it if you have a good basis in Blender already as our man dillongoo is fast forwarding through most of his work flow. As someone who is new to Blender I'm spending more time learning other tutorials trying to understand how he did a certian action than doing the actual course.
Nothing wrong with that, I understand the goal of the course is animation only but it's something to consider if you are a person who gets frustrated fast watching tutorials that dont explain everything to a t.
Definitely, agree with this comment. I've been learning blender since about middle of March. Mainly Layout and Sculpting from other tutorials on creating characters and without those tutorials I'd be lost in the sauce as this is a very speed run course. It is a great course though to get a large jumpstart into animation however.
The only problem I'm having is the head sway of the character is going side-to-side a good amount on the X axis even though all 3 locations are at 0.0m

Hmm.. I bought the course without any background in blender and as some of the previous comments, the course is moving at a very fast pace. For example, he was tweaking the rig to adjust the run post but I have no idea how to even move the rig or how to select the rig etc.. so it's been rather frustrating. If only he cover a bit more on the rig info.. that may be more helpful.

Amazing how many animators are just doing fight scenes whilst core motions lack polish. Tutorial looks cool don’t have money to get it now
in a time of terrible CG animation, this both looked good and had buttery smooth animation. hats off to you sir.
If you want good CGI, look the anime Land Of The Lustrous. It's a masterpiece with a perfect CGI animation. Even if the scenario is weird, the whole things is good.

1:20 I remember a Jackie Chan interview where he says his fights have more impact than shaky cam Hollywood fights because you have the full frame and see the entire motion and connection of the strike. The grounded camera at here made me think of that interview.

I took the course, I gotta say barebones is an understatement, the videos are 4 minutes snippets of him doing it in sped up mode. If you follow the recipe you might get it done, but you learn squat. The tutorial is like, "now that you've seen how to make a running loop, do the rest of the animation. This course needs to be updated and expanded upon. Don't get me wrong, you will make an animation, but this does not open doors to make new interesting stuff. Just variants of this.

I agree with you, but I'd like to change that. After i get into college in a month, id take up a side course on 3d animation cuz its been my dream to animate. And IFF it fits for me i might look into 3D anime and hopefully figure out something that could cause a paradigm shift in how anime is made. Becuz 3D animation has limitless horizons to grow up to. It could achieve scenes that 2D can't dream of and could evoke emotions that the beholder probably didn't know even existed.
@@tick1180 I would personally like more variety in anime. Even experimental 2D animation such as Mob Psycho was criticized when it first came out. I personally love the look of good CG anime.

Take away the audio, it feels like shit.
I know this is going to sound like I'm a dick but I mean this in the most kind way I can say this as an audience member and I know nothing on animation. I love what you made and it's a true spectacle to see, considering doing your course because of it. The only thing I could find in the video that looked slightly off, and I really had to try and look for this because the animation is great everywhere else, is that during the running scenes the momentum of the characters feels a bit slow in contrast to the speed of the parkour and climbing. Whether this was a choice or not I don't know but it's honestly just nitpicking on my part. Maybe make the animations in running a bit more intense and then I would assume this is studio level animation that I just saw in a theatre. Again I don't mean anything bad by it. I love your stuff, please keep making more.
I agree! Brilliant set design, super unique character designs that give off their personalities so well. Speed and momentum (running speed, hits) did feel a little slow! Hard to understand why one running animation meant she couldn't surpass the girl while the same animation let her do it a second time. But it's truly, very good.
Yeah, some punches took less time that some jumps, which shouldn't happen given that the scene tries to convey that those punches are really strong, a little bit of more time between frames would help convincing the viewer of the strength behind them.
Also, I noticed that in some parts the camera was too close! In fight scenes is necessary to see more of the body to help the viewer to not get lost between the action.
This are little details that I honesty thing would help the animatio and doesn't mean that it's bad, on contrary I really loved it.

why does this give me huge slugterra vibes? my brother used to watch that show all the time so the animation style is engraved in my brain.
I find it interesting how the eyes blend in with the skin, instead of having a line bewteen them for seperation.
