My Spierings mobile tower crane (SK597-AT4) is powered by a Paccar MX11. 320kw 435hp, coupled to a ZF 12 speed automatic transmission. It also has a transfer case with a high and low range and a final drive reduction in the axles. Compared to older DAF engines, this one has much more torque down low, but it lacks a bit at higher rpm's. On the freeway the rpm's are high (~1900rpm at 78kmh...) so there is not much extra torque avaible. If you come across a hill it will slow down quite a bit, but once it drops to about 1500rpm this engine just keeps going and pulling strong. It just refuses to go down a gear😂 quite impressive, as the crane weights 48 metric tons, with 12 ton axle loads. The bigger spierings cranes use 510hp MX13's with 16 speed ZF's.
The newer AT4's (2021 and up) have a new ZF transmission in them with diffrent gear ratios, these drive a bit nicer and keep the rpm at 1700ish on the freeway. Wich is better suited for the MX-11.

When I drove 18-wheelers many moons ago I did prefer the CAT based on the hp and much
wider rpm-band of use even though when it comes to repair they are the highe$t.
I am sorry to see that the Cat-Folks are now selling truck engines to Australia and am not
sure if we have to thank Obama for that messing up matters with his stupid green ideas.
Now we run water in our Diesel fuel and reroute the exhaust into the engine oil to save the
world, which seems to come to an end soon with all the crap our smart politicians pull.
Try to "Put the Hammer down" anyway!
