Honestly I hate how you have to jump through hoops to make the program do what you want with carbide. The shapeoko is an amazing machine but as soon as I can I will probably switch to vectric. Chris you are the man at fooling carbide into doing what you want it to

To be honest with you, I’ve been using Carveco Maker + more and more. I do enjoy the challenge of manipulating CC to do things people don’t think it can do, but it does get old after a while. Check out Carveco Maker and Maker +. I’ll be doing videos on that when I get a little more comfortable.

Have not used Carveco Maker as Chris mentioned in his reply to you, but this along with the exceptionally wonky Tool Database is another reason I am so glad I invested in Vectric Aspire many years ago.

I hear you. I suppose for the hobby guys Carbide Create is a viable option but I had to jump in with both feet because I'm much more into full 3D work. I wanted to buy Aspire but the developers said it was still 8 months out till release and I couldn't wait that long so I ended up with Artcam and when Autodesk bought then killed Artcam I jumped on the huge discount for the new full version Artcam replacement, Carveco. Aspire is a great program, sort of a slimmed down version of Artcam/Carveco which makes sense since the developers were former Artcam writers and Aspire still has a very attractive price for a full 3D program.

Thank you again for a very informative video on Texture Toolpaths. I saw a video on setting Z height on the waste board surface and then putting in a negative number on stock thickness. This seems like an excellent idea, however I don't think carbide create will accept a negative number. Is there a workaround on this? It would sure save my waste board. Thank You again

Don't need a negative number. In Carbide Create, set your toolpath zero to bottom, and then your stock thickness. (digital calipers are a must). Z height zero is then set to your wasteboard.

For all you spindle users.....
Check out PreciseBits for collets and collet nuts that can reduce runout over the Chinese collets including with your spindle.
Plus all kinds of spindle related items that are generally not available on websites tailoring to just selling bits to inexperienced cnc users. They have helped me get the best out of my most expensive upgrade.

Hey Chris looking to get the precision collet kit I have the ER11 nut and collet for 1/4. 1/8. 1/16. What do you sujet ?

I’m not sure if they have a 1/16” collet. I’ll have to look into it. I generally just use 1/4” bits.

I haven’t tried one of those. I’d probably cut everything normal like in my stacked text tutorial, then come back through and do the texture. Just adjust the start depth.

I’ve had great experiences with Precise Bits, Amana, and Bits & Bits. I can’t say one is necessarily any better than the other, but I do like the collars that come on the Precise Bits. I also like that they give you more data on the bits themselves. Seems like there’s more quality checks in place.

I’ve been following along with the tutorials Leighton on the Carveco RUclips channel does. There’s a lot to learn, but it seems to be pretty logical. Hopefully I’ll be confident enough to do some of my own tutorials soon enough.
