Many don't understand that we do nothing here on earth that will earn our way into heaven. You are only saved by the grace of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Yes, we only live through the righteousness of Jesus Christ. Only He is pure and righteous, without sin. It is impossible for us to save ourselves through our good deeds. This is why Jesus (God Himself) had to come to earth to save and restore us, to take our sinful nature on Himself and give us His holy and righteous nature in exchange. He nailed our sin to the Cross and clothed us with His righteousness. This is the only way we will be accepted into the presence of Almighty God. All our own righteousness is corrupted and unholy, because we are sinful. According to Isaiah 64:6 "We are all infected and impure with sin. When we display our righteous deeds, they are nothing but filthy rags." Jesus said "You must be born again" - we are to die to our unholy human nature and accept Him as our Saviour and Lord. We are then born again spiritually when we receive His Holy Spirit who then lives within us and helps us to change and live a godly and obedient life. We receive His eternal life, His love, His joy, His peace, and all of His blessings and promises.

You don't go to heaven for being good. You go to heaven by repenting, trusting in Jesus and following Him. I love Trump but I hope he understands this. It's very important.
I don't want to Bible bash but what my religion believes is that it indeed does take action on our part to be able to get back to Him. We can't simply believe in Him and then are all of a sudden going to go to heaven no matter what, because then there would be no point in being here in the first place. We have to repent of our sins and keep covenants to keep ourselves on track and to be more like Jesus Christ and repentance is absolutely necessary because no unclean thing can enter the presence of God. If we don't repent of sins, we can't be forgiven of them and if we are carrying around sin, we are not clean. Repenting helps us as we make promises to do our best at all times and become better. We aren't expected to be perfect, but we can repent to help us be better and be forgiven. It says it right there in the scriptures and in the Bible, that we must repent to return to the presence of God and to be forgiven and the atonement is an essential part of God's plan.

The purpose of the Law (the shadow of what was to come in the Messiah) was to bring the knowledge of sin and the desperate need for a permanent Savior. This was because no matter how many regulations there were (if you are even able to keep them all perfectly all the time, which Israel couldn't), no matter how many animal sacrifices they made (the blood of animals could not fully atone for sin) they would still have to do it year after year, over and over. We cannot get there (God's presence) from here (our human efforts). God had to come into humanity to take the punishment for all who would ever have faith in Him and it was a once-for-all-time deal, never to be repeated. That is why Jesus said "It is finished" just before he died. He paid the price for sin in full. So now, a person (any sinner) that comes to God in faith (not merit/good works), just as he is, with trust in Christ to cleanse him, keep him, and guide his steps for eternity can be forgiven of all past, present, and future sins and nothing can ever separate that one from the love of God or snatch them out of His hand. You are born again, washed clean, sealed as an adopted son of your Father in heaven. To attempt to get on God's good side by instead trying to perform good works is like trying to bribe a judge. We can only get out of our guilty sentence if someone else stands in our place and takes our guilt upon himself. This is what Jesus Christ did on the cross. It's is because of THIS that your heart will overflow with deep gratitude and love for what Christ did for you. To know that because of Him, God can let you go free from condemnation is the most liberating feeling! Now, a believer is FREE to do good works because they will actually bubble forth willingly! The works will be the FRUIT that a person's heart has been changed by God. You will WANT to be self-sacrificing because of Christ sacrificing Himself willingly for YOU. You will love others more easily because of the great love Christ had for you. You will want to be more like Him everyday and the works will come naturally because you are a new person with new affections. We believe that it is up to the individuals to return to godly principles. It’s not something forced on a person. God wants us to draw near to him, and he will drawn near to us. That’s a promise. One godly principle is proven by the fact that those who wait till they marry have less than a one percent chance of divorce, they also report the highest levels of marital satisfaction. Godly principles come from God, who is only good. His ways are higher than our ways, they work. Just four years ago, I prayed and believed in God and even Jesus as his son but I didn’t understand the importance of Jesus crucifixion. I even attended catholic school growing up and they didn’t really explain it to us clearly. I thought if you are good and treat people well and believe in god than you go to heaven and bad people who hurt others and are selfish, go to hell. I was very wrong just like trump is wrong. God still answered my prayers because he knew my heart and he never gave up on me, after a demonic encounter and calling out to Jesus for help which was the only thing that made the dark entity flee like never before, I was pulled to want to know more about Jesus after seeing the power of calling on him had on this demonic figure standing in my room many nights. When I read the Bible shortly after, I was blown away by how wrong I was about the purpose Jesus had on earth and that faith alone in Jesus is what actually gives salvation but we are slowly transformed by the Holy Spirit and we will have good fruits after because of the change he makes within us. For those who have commented about Donald Trump's statement about being good and getting into heaven, etc., allow me to add my observations to what he said. I am a Boomer about the same age as Mr. Trump. I was raised in a mainstream Protestant denomination. My family went to church fairly regularly and participated in church activities like choir, Sunday School, Bible School, etc. What I remember learning at church during my formative years was about doing good, avoiding sinful behaviors, and following the Ten Commandments. I never remember being taught that the only way to salvation was through faith in Jesus Christ. I was well into adulthood when I began learning about "faith alone" and about not trying to earn one's way into Heaven. Even more years went by before I learned that Catholic doctrine does have a "good works" teaching as well as "faith" teaching. So I am wondering if Mr. Trump's religious upbringing was similar to mine and based primarily on the Ten Commandments. I suspect it was. If I had not undertaken a comprehensive self-study about Christianity a few years ago, I would be giving the same answer that Mr. Trump has given here.
So sad that a “Christian” upbringing would not have been explained the gospel to you or pointed you to read the Bible. It’s really all in there and that’s the best way to study Christianity. I can understand his perspective. I had a stroke a few years ago in my early 30’s. Because I was young the idea of a stroke never even crossed my mind. I just thought I had a bad migraine so I went to bed. I was lucky I woke up at all that next morning. The type of stroke I had was in a particularly dangerous spot. The vast majority who have strokes like mine die. Almost all of those who don’t die end up with significant disability. I escaped both by literally millimeters. A year of physical therapy later and I was 98% healed (you never completely heal after a stroke) and to see me now no one could ever tell that I went through any of that. Trump and I have something in common now, we both had a really close call and we both get to have seen first hand God’s work in our lives.

Yes, we only live through the righteousness of Jesus Christ. Only He is pure and righteous, without sin. It is impossible for us to save ourselves through our good deeds. This is why Jesus (God Himself) had to come to earth to save and restore us, to take our sinful nature on Himself and give us His holy and righteous nature in exchange. He nailed our sin to the Cross and clothed us with His righteousness. This is the only way we will be accepted into the presence of Almighty God.
All our own righteousness is corrupted and unholy, because we are sinful. According to Isaiah 64:6 "We are all infected and impure with sin. When we display our righteous deeds, they are nothing but filthy rags."
Jesus said "You must be born again" - we are to die to our unholy human nature and accept Him as our Saviour and Lord. We are then born again spiritually when we receive His Holy Spirit who then lives within us and helps us to change and live a godly and obedient life. We receive His eternal life, His love, His joy, His peace, and all of His blessings and promises.

I don't want to Bible bash but what my religion believes is that it indeed does take action on our part to be able to get back to Him. We can't simply believe in Him and then are all of a sudden going to go to heaven no matter what, because then there would be no point in being here in the first place. We have to repent of our sins and keep covenants to keep ourselves on track and to be more like Jesus Christ and repentance is absolutely necessary because no unclean thing can enter the presence of God. If we don't repent of sins, we can't be forgiven of them and if we are carrying around sin, we are not clean. Repenting helps us as we make promises to do our best at all times and become better. We aren't expected to be perfect, but we can repent to help us be better and be forgiven. It says it right there in the scriptures and in the Bible, that we must repent to return to the presence of God and to be forgiven and the atonement is an essential part of God's plan.
Someone teach this man about salvation. It's not about being good. It's about grace through faith.

If being good could wash away our sins, then God wouldn't have needed to send His son to die for them. The purpose of the Law (the shadow of what was to come in the Messiah) was to bring the knowledge of sin and the desperate need for a permanent Savior. This was because no matter how many regulations there were (if you are even able to keep them all perfectly all the time, which Israel couldn't), no matter how many animal sacrifices they made (the blood of animals could not fully atone for sin) they would still have to do it year after year, over and over.
We cannot get there (God's presence) from here (our human efforts). God had to come into humanity to take the punishment for all who would ever have faith in Him and it was a once-for-all-time deal, never to be repeated. That is why Jesus said "It is finished" just before he died. He paid the price for sin in full. So now, a person (any sinner) that comes to God in faith (not merit/good works), just as he is, with trust in Christ to cleanse him, keep him, and guide his steps for eternity can be forgiven of all past, present, and future sins and nothing can ever separate that one from the love of God or snatch them out of His hand. You are born again, washed clean, sealed as an adopted son of your Father in heaven. To attempt to get on God's good side by instead trying to perform good works is like trying to bribe a judge. We can only get out of our guilty sentence if someone else stands in our place and takes our guilt upon himself. This is what Jesus Christ did on the cross.
It's is because of THIS that your heart will overflow with deep gratitude and love for what Christ did for you. To know that because of Him, God can let you go free from condemnation is the most liberating feeling! Now, a believer is FREE to do good works because they will actually bubble forth willingly! The works will be the FRUIT that a person's heart has been changed by God. You will WANT to be self-sacrificing because of Christ sacrificing Himself willingly for YOU. You will love others more easily because of the great love Christ had for you. You will want to be more like Him everyday and the works will come naturally because you are a new person with new affections.

Just four years ago, I prayed and believed in God and even Jesus as his son but I didn’t understand the importance of Jesus crucifixion. I even attended catholic school growing up and they didn’t really explain it to us clearly. I thought if you are good and treat people well and believe in god than you go to heaven and bad people who hurt others and are selfish, go to hell. I was very wrong just like trump is wrong. God still answered my prayers because he knew my heart and he never gave up on me, after a demonic encounter and calling out to Jesus for help which was the only thing that made the dark entity flee like never before, I was pulled to want to know more about Jesus after seeing the power of calling on him had on this demonic figure standing in my room many nights. When I read the Bible shortly after, I was blown away by how wrong I was about the purpose Jesus had on earth and that faith alone in Jesus is what actually gives salvation but we are slowly transformed by the Holy Spirit and we will have good fruits after because of the change he makes within us. I pray someone really explains this to trump. I h e zero doubt that God Weill reveal the truth to him because it’s clear that trump is a truth seeker and all truth comes from God. My point is that there is no way you can avoid God if you are looking into the truth in any way.

He is "good" who believes on the finished work of Jesus Christ for salvation, who does not attempt to establish for himself his own righteousness based on one's own deeds. Trump did not say, "if I do good things, I will go to heaven". Trump might have not actually understood the gospel, but his pure statement could be defended as true. A follow-up statement could be, "I am counted good because I trust in Jesus, and this is the only way I can be counted as "good"". Trump's statement is not itself an error if taken in this sense.

For those who have commented about Donald Trump's statement about being good and getting into heaven, etc., allow me to add my observations to what he said.
I am a Boomer about the same age as Mr. Trump. I was raised in a mainstream Protestant denomination. My family went to church fairly regularly and participated in church activities like choir, Sunday School, Bible School, etc.
What I remember learning at church during my formative years was about doing good, avoiding sinful behaviors, and following the Ten Commandments. I never remember being taught that the only way to salvation was through faith in Jesus Christ. I was well into adulthood when I began learning about "faith alone" and about not trying to earn one's way into Heaven. Even more years went by before I learned that Catholic doctrine does have a "good works" teaching as well as "faith" teaching.
So I am wondering if Mr. Trump's religious upbringing was similar to mine and based primarily on the Ten Commandments. I suspect it was. If I had not undertaken a comprehensive self-study about Christianity a few years ago, I would be giving the same answer that Mr. Trump has given here.
So sad that a “Christian” upbringing would not have been explained the gospel to you or pointed you to read the Bible. It’s really all in there and that’s the best way to study Christianity. It’s not just a book, it’s powerful, transformative truth. The very Word of God, which is alive and active today as it was and will continue to be.

Open to Me, come to Me, thirst for Me, give me your life - and I will prove to you how important you are to My Heart.

No matter how far you may wander, no matter how often you forget Me, no matter how many crosses you may bear in this life; there is one thing I want you to always remember, one thing that will never change. I THIRST FOR YOU - just as you are. You don’t need to change to believe in My love, for it will be your belief in My love that will change you. You forget Me, and yet I am seeking you every moment of the day - standing at the door of your heart and knocking. Do you find this hard to believe? Then look at the cross, look at My Heart that was pierced for you. Have you not understood My cross? Then listen again to the words I spoke there - for they tell you clearly why I endured all this for you. Yes, I thirst for you. All your life I have been looking for your love - I have never stopped seeking to love you and be loved by you. You have tried many other things in your search for happiness; why not try opening your heart to Me, right now, more than you ever have before.
Whenever you do open the door of your heart, whenever you come close enough, you will hear Me say to you again and again, not in mere human words but in spirit. "No matter what you have done, I love you for your own sake Come to Me with your misery and your sins, with your troubles and needs, and with all your longing to be loved. I can understand his perspective. I had a stroke a few years ago in my early 30’s. Because I was young the idea of a stroke never even crossed my mind. I just thought I had a bad migraine so I went to bed. I was lucky I woke up at all that next morning. The type of stroke I had was in a particularly dangerous spot. The vast majority who have strokes like mine die. Almost all of those who don’t die end up with significant disability. I escaped both by literally millimeters. A year of physical therapy later and I was 98% healed (you never completely heal after a stroke) and to see me now no one could ever tell that I went through any of that. Trump and I have something in common now, we both had a really close call and we both get to have seen first hand God’s work in our lives.
