Welcome back! What a Great record, should have made the Top 10. It got a LOT of airplay in their hometown Tulsa back in 1975 and still does today. And I forgot the 45 was cut so hot!
Hello there Old School Power Rock Music Lovers ... I'm 67 years young and i've lived in Cleveland , Ohio for 57 of my 67 being on this Earth and the other 10 years were first spent in Parma , Ohio and i remember when this song first got it's local airplay on G 98 ( not sure what the other station letters were ) about one year after i had graduated from The W. T. H. School in the spring of 1974 and i would Blast this song on the radio from the 2 front speakers of my 4 door 1964 CHEVY Nova ( they were the only ones that came with the car at the time it was built ) and i would laugh as i'd watched the dashboard vibrate becuz of the Great Guitar Riff's that was on this song ... 😲 Still have the 45 rpm record in my collection and Yes it should have gotten Much Better reconnection across the country than it did ! 😉 Now as for what Mr. Lovely says about the fact that Classic Rock stations Do Not play this song anymore , you Sir are SO WRONG ... G 98 is now 98.5 WGCL here in Cleveland and they play it All the Time and especially when the late , great D. J. Mr. Michael Stanley was still alive ( aka the lead singer of the Michael Stanley Band from the Cleveland area ) and was On The Air from 3pm till 6pm every weekday and sometimes on Saturday afternoons too ! 😉 Well as the and only Mr. Pete Townsend of the Great rock group The WHO would Always Say , " Long Live Rock - N - Roll " 👍😉🎸
OK kids i've Never been one Not to admit when i make mistakes in typing out comments on some various things that i see on the Internet and i did notice a few Boo - Boo's on this comment section that i typed out last week such as i found out the radio station G 98 call letters were WGCL back when this Great song came out back in the mid 1970's and that 98.5 is Now known as WNCX here in the Cleveland area ... Darn It ! 😲Secondly i should have said that when i turned up the volume on my radio in my 1964 CHEVY Nova to listen to this song that my 2 and Only 2 front speakers would make the dashboard vibrate from the guitar riffs of this song becuz this car at the time Only came with the two front speakers and Thirdly i left out the word " one " when referring to the comment what the Great Mr. Pete Townsend from the Great band The WHO had said about Rock - N - Roll music ... So Whoops on my part for these mistakes although they were Minor , but still bothered me quite a bit anyway ! LOL 😉
Well, I'm biased being from Tulsa....but from wherever we are from, it's always great to see good ol rock n roll song done by one of your hometown bands. Dwight's still at it. Thumbs up!!
Ya , I was living in a mom'n pop motel in Checotah Ok. a couple years ago hauling U.S. mail to Fayetteville Ak. and back. Messed around some on weekends in Tulsa, Broken Arrow, and Muskogee. Now I'm retired in Apache Junction Az. Robert at 68. Don't mess around with Texas OR Oklahoma..
Ya, the Lakeway Inn in Checotah in 2015, 25 min. south on I-40 and hanging out in downtown Tulsa on the weekends, those were the days, now I'm in Phoenix, then Apache Junction Az...Robert at 66.
You're back! I feel like I have been waiting forever! As I told you in a PM long ago, these videos of yours are literally the whole reason I became back interested in records again in 2011, after a 25 year hiatus to CDs. Your needle drops made me collect again, and start my own Vinyl Community channel. This is really a special day... looking forward to more spins from your collection.
WOW - Yeah this is by far the best, most crisp mix I've heard online! Heard this song in 1975 when it was first aired here in L.A. on KLOS radio, I was 16 years old - A favorite of me and my buddies - This band should've taken off like Tom Petty!
@Coogan Tom originally recorded for Shelter Records in the 1970's as part of the band Mudcrutch, so he must have been paying attention to the rival band that Dwight Twilley had. As for me, this song sounds like early R.E.M., which borrowed a few things from Twilley as well.
Oh my God. I haven't heard this song since, well, it came out. Great song, underrated. Your channel really does sound like the music sounded on the radio back then...okay, a little better because I was listening on my little round royal blue Panasonic AM-only portable radio circle 1970.
I have a transistor radio at my old house (AM only, fine with me!). It was put out by the Sinclair Oil Company, so it's gotta be at least 50 years old. If I could find somebody to fix it at a reasonable price and get a 9-volt battery, happy days would be here again!
@@TheBrooklynbodine I was going to say, if it just needs a new battery clip and wire lead, that would be easy enough to fix. Something more involved, such as a popped transistor, would be more difficult, especially finding a replacement. Difficult, but not totally impossible.
Welcome back Spencer! I just scored a promo copy of this from the radio station I work for PT...they purged 80% of their record library and got about 500 singles and 45 LPs out of it!!
What a great groove! This song came out when a was a sophomore in high school when I was 15... You heard it everywhere... the two major FM radio rock stations here in Los Angeles, KLOS AND KMET, played the shit outta this!
It was big in L.A., wasn't it? I know it made the top 40 nationally, but I don't guess it got very much airplay in other places. For instance, I don't know if WABC or WLS (two of the premier top 40s back in the day) played it or not. It was on KQV's (Pittsburgh) chart, and I remember hearing it in my hometown of Fairmont, West Virginia (about 100 miles south of Pittsburgh).
OK, thanks. I hope to someday research WABC's and WLS's surveys to see whether it charted on either or both of those stations. BTW, tomorrow (11-27-19) will be the 45th anniversary of its recording.
You are absolutely right about this, "Power", version of this track. It has much better clarity than my LP version of the song. Glad to have you back and I hope all is well.
First time I heard this was on KWUL-FM. This isn't a plug for them, believe me, although they're good. Just stating that I'd never have heard of this overlooked new fave of mine, which I think is a shame. I really love this song.
Happened to see this band by complete chance in the late Eighties I think some place in Malibu… I was invited by a friend way back then and I’m like yeah I’ll go that name sounds familiar. What do ya want I was a transplant from Boston sobering up .
A loose association comes to my mind. At about the same time of the "butcher cover", the Beatles released Revolver. It contained the song And Your Bird Can Sing. I think there's a great similarity between some of John and George's guitar work on that song and some of the guitar play on this song.
I think a lot of stations didn't. For instance, I don't think WABC did; not sure about WLS. It hit #16 nationally, so that means that while it kicked ass in some markets, it didn't register at all (or very little) in others. I'm from Fairmont, West Virginia, lived here my whole life (55 yrs. 9 mos.) and remember it on at least one local station.
Awesome 'Power Pop' tune, even more awesome is the harmonizing part of now half grown up Susan Cowsill at 17. Nobody quite has that unique high pitch tone and sound of Susan's, especially here and as a younger pre teen singing. Nice basic straightforward intro guitar and no nonsence drumming.
This is when music was real
This is the best this song has ever sounded! Fantastic

You posted this 5 years ago. Does it still, in 2019, get much airplay there?
Actually, this track reached #16 on the Billboard charts. A sizable hit in 1975. Unfortunately, classic rock stations today never play it...
Because they're stupid and that's why their stations die
This is beautiful, soulful rock and roll
I think Dwight was getting The Hollies vibe for sure ..

Is he still doing any shows? He turned 67 today (June 6, 2018). Happy birthday, Mr. Twilley, and many more!

I love those vocal harmonies
You can thank Susan Cowsill FROM the 60's group The Cowsills.
17 year old Susan Cowsill's backup singing here adds that something extra, and makes a good tune great, and knocks it 'out of the park'. Bob at 66.

I've always dug this tune....definitely rock 'n roll. I used to do this song with my old group.
There's a lot of growl and sparkle on this that I don't normally hear. Nice job and keep up the good work.
Brings back memories! Jr high days. Love it!

What is wrong with it? Does it just need another battery clip or is it something deeper than that?
@@grigorirasputin5020 I really don't know. Seriously.

I remember this tune now, it was a smoker!!! Thanks for the upload.
Great song that should've reached the top ten or # 1.
Welcome back, great track and as always, excellent background detail in the notes! Good to see you again! - Lj
Still heard now and then on WXRT, Chicago's Finest Rock.
First time to hear this tune. Not bad!
Glad to hear from you again!
Thanks for posting , heard this at work and had to track it down ; great tune of my teens !
How did this song slip through the cracks 43 years ago & not reach the Top 5?
What a great groove! This song came out when a was a sophomore in high school when I was 15...
You heard it everywhere... the two major FM radio rock stations here in Los Angeles, KLOS AND KMET, played the shit outta this!
Great tune!!!
ive just discovered this song 2 months ago never heard of it here in australia its a xllent song
Got heavy airplay in L.A. too, but went nowhere. Hard to figure?
All over KMET and KLOS. I bought the album at the Tower Records in Buena Park.
They wouldn't do the rituals

It certainly got played in the Gulf Coadt Florida towns of Panama City and Panama City Beach.

I'm so glad you are back posting these great songs! I'm looking forward to what you will be uploading to RUclips in the future.
Lol! Just hit this vid, again! Cuz damn

Songs that sticks

A big hit in Texas
Recorded this onto cassette back in '76 from KLSS north Iowa's #1 rocker!
Amen brother, before auto-tune.
Still remembered it.......jammin
"You ain't got no lover"--- so grammatically incorrect. But ain't it not the best song ever? !
Rita Brown it's the same with James Brown's I feel good. that is grammatically incorrect. I feel well, and I'm not trying to rhyme sounds like hell
I'll have to untangle what you just said, but I'd say it's just about the best!
Most hit songs are grammatically incorrect, for that matter, but we ain't in English class, now are we?
Artistic licence... it's ok.

RIP DWIGHT
RIP Dwight
Love this band, their sound was too far head of their time.
'kinay!
they just don't write 'em like that anymore!
this makes me wanna hear the bay city frickin rollers--it's pretty solid!
Like the rest of you, I'm glad to see this RUclipsr back.
Anybody know the model of that Technics turntable?
Looks like a Technics SL-1400, but the later version with Quartz. Good to see this channel back! Turned me on a quite a few essential mono 7" mixes.
I was a Pioneer turntable/casette tape guy in the day..LOL!!
I wonder what the Beatles' 'butcher cover' -like album (magazine?) is on the table?
A loose association comes to my mind. At about the same time of the "butcher cover", the Beatles released Revolver. It contained the song And Your Bird Can Sing. I think there's a great similarity between some of John and George's guitar work on that song and some of the guitar play on this song.

Close vocal harmonies like the Hollies.
It's got a tinny sounds vs my LP and the acoustic guitars are totally lost
