Here is the link to where you can purchase the UV-21R Triband Baofeng: www.amazon.com/dp/B0CLLPF8KF?ref_=cm_sw_r_apan_dp_Y7BGN2RDD4FQW4P0WWSJ&language=en-US
The tri band UV-21R sounds like a real great radio, But the person that did the format of the video could have slowed down to a less learned person, but I caught some of it. Thanks
Is an excellent radio and it also does 220 I bought a tri-band antenna for it doesn't say 2:20 this is 2 m and 440 but guess what I programmed it and it works on 220 also I talk on the 220 repeater with it great radio easy to program body keypad I have the same one and I bought one in Orange 🧡🧡🧡
Usually unless you are connected to an external antenna, under most circumstances that degree of reach is not possible. To reach that with a handheld, I would suggest looking at a 10dBi+ gain Yagi antenna. Even then, from your point to reach 75 miles it would have to be over flat terrain without any obstacles.
From Amazon's product page regarding the UV 21R battery capacity: Looking for specific info? Q: What is the mAh rating of this battery? The BAOFENG UV-21R battery has a high capacity of 2600 Milliamp Hours, allowing for extended usage and standby time of 5-7 days. The 1800 mA you read off from the specification sheet is the instantaneous current draw during transmission. A quarter is the best "screwdriver" to remove the battery screw. Or, you could just use the one on your Swiss pocket knife.
Appreciate your input! My apologies if I confused the draw amperage with the battery size. At first I used a quarter I think to open it up, yes my multitool worked just as well.
I have a new Kenwood TH-D75, which is tri-band also but also does GPS, DSTAR and APRS. And probably about 5 times higher quality. It's the best Ham HT I've ever owned yet. So I don't need this radio. But I'd buy this if I didn't already have the Kenwood.
Mine came with the abbree middle tape antenna. I do not know where i would use it. Maybe on my motorcycle. Oh i put mine in dummy mode also by using it . Lol ! I have the helmet setup for the motorcycle.
I downloaded my uv5r to chirp and called it p a uv17r and downloaded it to the radio that way. It was 2 months ago, and I have not searched to see if it has been upgraded yet. But i heard Baufeng has programming for it
I haven't played around with it very much yet, but 2M and 70cm seem to come in well (depending on repeater and location of course). Still have yet to play around on 1.25M. Hope this better clarifies the answer. Sorry it isn't a very scientific answer.
I greatly appreciate the clarity and apologies on my neanderthal mind that didn't catch that the first time. While I wasn't able to find any results directly applying to the UV-21R, I did come across this forum post from last year regarding UV-5Rs and their respected generations. Hope this helps all! forums.radioreference.com/threads/baofeng-spectral-purity-imd-testing.461065/
It does look like a further iteration of the UV-5R. Not damp or dust proof, so agree that it's not the greatest for outdoor use. I haven't stress tested the battery, but plan to soon.

Nice video, I'm going to be going through checking them all out. I definitely have more to learn in this area.
You never quit learning about Amateur Radio.
The flathead screwdriver struggle is so real with these. lol
You aren't kidding!
a folding finger locking bolt is far far better.
It's for the belt clip...wish mine had come with one!
The battery screw...think they designed that so one could simply use a coin while "In the field?"
Use to call them paint rippers.

Appreciate the feedback. Will be doing an updated video in the near future.

Uv17 pro using chirp will program it that’s what I used on mine great little radios
I have heard that several radios aren't CHIRP programmable. It can be a hit or miss.
Hello, ran across your video and I have a question? I’m looking for a handheld radio that can reach 75 miles, any suggestions. Thanks

@ thank you for your time and information.

Sounds like a solid radio you have there!
do you review the features....?
Planning to go over features and programming in a future video.
I used my swiss army knife can bottle opener screwdrive for that screw & the Phillips for the belt clip.
Anything besides the screwdriver it came with.
Mine came with the abbree middle tape antenna. I do not know where i would use it. Maybe on my motorcycle. Oh i put mine in dummy mode also by using it . Lol ! I have the helmet setup for the motorcycle.
That's a setup I would like to see!
Have you found a version of chip that will program it?
Not yet, planning to go over the details when I do a breakdown video over the radio.

I’ve programmed mine by selecting UV-17 pro on CHIRP
I have been seeing some posts that UV-17R and this model may be just about the same.
Do you have the UV-17R to compare?
I do not, but have it on the list as something to purchase in the future. Have seen alot about it.
Bad idea, backward step, having to have a screwdriver to hand. ~It's the Baofeng BF-5RH/UV5RH every time for me. So impressed I bought Two.
Adding the screwdriver was a bummer haha.
How drty ??
Apologies, what is the question?
@@NukaVaultReadiness im sorry for the bad mispelling,
I meant spectral purity

He’s asking if it has spurious emissions on harmonic frequencies. Is it clean enough to pass fcc requirements.

Amazon list's it as a 2 band model....
Indeed it does, but the manual with it does say 1.25M Tx/Rx. Need to get a Tri-band antenna and try it out!
"rubber ducky" haha never heard it called that.
Technically it's a rubber duck, but those are just semantics haha.
It's what we call the stock antenna in a box.
Thats old school Ham lingo! Where has this kid been? 😅
🦆🤷
I find no tri band in this radio only dual band
Odd. In my manual is states Tx/Rx on 2M, 1.25M, and 70cm.
I don't have a 1.25M repeater near me, so I will need to do some traveling to try it out.
Same radios just a facelift with a colour screen and a bunch of variants 😂 bet you were hoping this was going to put out 10w clearly not.
If a HT ever puts out 10W on 2M, I would be a happy camper! But I think my bar is set too high haha.
I just like HTs.
@@NukaVaultReadiness I get it bro 👍
needing a tool to deal with a battery. i call fail.
now if the factory battery can handle over 24 hrs of usage. then ok.
another fail.
NOT water resistant.
second strike.

How many kilometers does it work?
The repeater I hit (one of the largest in our area) was about 32km away.
