    John Constantine is my 3rd favorite DC character with Blue Beetle (Jamie Reyes) & Superman (Clark Kent) beating him!

    Does Hellblazer from Gart Ennis have black comedy, a parody atmosphere, and a bit of fun, like Punisher or Hitman?

      I would say no. Certainly not at the same degree. Constantine can be a bastard, there’s some social critique and there’s the occasional moment of humor, but the overall tone of the series in serious, leaning towards horror and crime. But it’s really really good.

      @@comicbelief Currently, I am reading Hellblazer from the beginning, and I liked it even though I did not understand some things well, because I literally do not know anything about the political and social situation in Britain at that time, and I heard that Ennis run is new Reader Friendly and May I know what type of social critique he presented and whether he resembled Preacher
      Does Constantine have a story in the direction of Punisher or Hitman, or do you know stories that have a similar atmosphere?

    • @comicbelief

      @@jojojotaru1167 80s England is easy enough to figure out. Margaret Tatcher was a strong conservative whose policies caused a lot of strikes and discontent. Ennis’s run is much lighter in this regard, with only passing mentions. I would say the Boys is closer to Hitman in tone. While his Hellblazer is more similar to Preacher. If you enjoyed one, you will enjoy the other.

      @@comicbelief I'm not a big fan of the boy. I read it and found that it doesn't suit me. I think it's too much edgy. Since you compared ennis run to Preacher, does this mean that it contains blasphemy?
      Is Gart Ennis the only one who has this tone, regardless of the British writers famous for the parody?

    • @comicbelief
      @comicbelief  Год назад +1

      @@jojojotaru1167 Hellblazer does play with the same themes. The main villain of the run is the devil himself and one storyline involves the love between a demon and an angel, but the figure of God is absent. Certainly not like it’s present in Preacher. As for other British writers, there’s plenty of parody, Miracleman is a comment on superheroes, V for Vendetta plays the 80s political themes we just talked about, nobody does deconstruction like Alan Moore, nobody does fantasy like Neil Gaiman, Grant Morrison is a mad genius. But dark humor is not prominent in their works. Warren Ellis is probably the best bet, especially with Transmetropolitan
